Abstract

Cattle farming in rural areas is often considered a form of investment or living savings. Farmers maintain cattle as assets that can be sold at any time when they need urgent funds, such as for healthcare, education, or other expenses. Liang Village, located in Salahutu District, Central Maluku, has great potential for the development of beef cattle farming. However, its productivity remains low, partly due to a lack of proper livestock management. One important aspect of livestock management is individual identification. Without proper identification, it is difficult for farmers to track the growth of livestock, control diseases, and increase the market value of the cattle. This community service activity aims to raise awareness among farmers in Liang Village about the importance of livestock identification and technical assistance in the implementation of appropriate tagging methods. The desired outcome is that farmers will be able to manage their operations more effectively, especially in terms of livestock identification systems. Farmers have responded positively, as they view this as a beneficial and innovative approach. It is recommended that ongoing support be provided in the form of training on cattle tagging so that farmers can effectively monitor their livestock.

Abstract

Juanga Village, South Morotai District, Morotai Island Regency, is one of the areas that is very vulnerable to coastal erosion, this is due to the high sea waves that often occur. Community service activities aim to educate the local community about the importance of planting mangroves as an effort to mitigate the coastal erosion disaster that occurred in Juanga Village. Community service starts from identifying problems that occur, then conducting outreach to the community and carrying out mangrove planting actions in designated areas involving KKNT students at Hein Namotemo University. The result of Community Service is that the community can be educated to continue to maintain natural balance by planting coastal vegetation that can withstand the rate of abrasion, one of which is mangroves because mangrove vegetation is important vegetation for the sustainability of marine biota and as a coast guard from abrasion. It is hoped that with this activity the people of Juanga Village can increase their knowledge and carry out sustainable planting.

Abstract

Bamboo is a non-timber forest product that is abundant in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, thriving in areas with high rainfall. In Indonesia, bamboo can be found in lowland to mountainous areas, typically growing in open spaces. In Ureng Village, bamboo has yet to significantly contribute to improving the local community’s welfare. One of the main factors limiting the optimal utilization of bamboo is the lack of knowledge regarding the physical properties and characteristics of bamboo wood, which could be processed into various economically valuable products. This activity aimed to provide education on the structure and properties of bamboo wood to enhance the economic value for the Ureng Village community. The results show that participants were highly enthusiastic about learning the properties and structure of bamboo wood, which can enable them to utilize bamboo as a substitute for timber.

Abstract

Free-range chicken farming is a business that has the potential to meet family needs, and has a large role in supporting the community's economy. Many of these farms are found in rural areas, generally of a traditional nature. Simple housing and simple feeding such as providing kitchen waste. The rest of the chickens themselves have to try to survive and fulfill their food needs in the yard. The negative impact of maintenance like this is low production and damage to yard plants. The main aim of this activity is to maintain livestock health by making and administering herbal medicine/fermented herbal medicine which is made together in groups (demonstration plots). Apart from that, train and motivate farmers to improve the rearing system so that they can develop free-range chicken farming businesses and become providers of chicken seeds. The target of implementing community service activities is a group of village chicken breeders in Uraur village, Kairatu sub-district, who have the will to implement new innovations to increase production and welfare of their families/community as well as for the chicken breeder community in general. The success of this activity is measured by the farmer's attention to chicken farming. Chickens given herbal medicine have better body resistance to disease and extreme environmental influences.

Abstract

Economically, beef cattle farming is very supportive of economic growth in rural communities because most of them are raised and developed as smallholder livestock businesses. The cattle farming business in Liang Village has the potential to be developed because it is a source of income for the community. The problem faced by beef cattle farmers in Liang Village is that they do not yet have skills in financial recording, which affects decision-making, especially in assessing the feasibility of the business being run. The purpose of implementing this PkM is to provide an understanding of the importance of recording financial transactions in beef cattle farming so that farmers are able to make simple bookkeeping so that they can assess the feasibility of the business being run. The stages of activity begin with observation and approaches to obtain information about business conditions and the needs of beef cattle farmers. The next stage is counseling, discussion and direct practice on how to record production costs and income into simple bookkeeping, so that farmers can assess the feasibility of the business being run. The results is Service Program show that the level of knowledge of livestock farmers regarding livestock financial management is only 40%, but increased to 85% after the Service Program activity. Participants' skills and understanding in financial management increased from 35% before the activity to 80% after. This shows that the Service Program activities provided have a positive impact in increasing the understanding and skills of farmers in managing their livestock business finances.

Abstract

Shifting cultivation is an agricultural system that is widely practiced by farmers because it does not require much capital for its activities. However, the impact of shifting cultivation activities is quite large, especially on forest destruction. To control the impact of shifting cultivation practices is to introduce the agroforestry model to farmers. Agroforestry is a farming model that combines agricultural crops and forestry crops the aim of the activity is to provide insight and understanding to farmers/cultivators who practice shifting cultivation so that they can reduce shifting cultivation activities. A total of 20 representatives from 20 families or 25% of the total number of families in Imabatai village were involved in intensive activities. This activity also involved female representatives, namely 10 people representing 10 families, while 10 men were involved representing 10 families participants really responded to this training, because it was something new for farmers. So far, participants have focused more on agricultural systems that rely more on business patterns that only focus on agricultural crops. Apart from that, the aspect of understanding the training material was very good, because 85% of participants were able to answer the evaluation questions well. The future hope is that participants can immediately try to practice agroforestry or dusung because it is very promising to increase farmers' income in the future when harvest time comes. Apart from that, agroforestry practices can reduce the impact of shifting cultivation which leads to the formation of critical land.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem caused by a prolonged lack of nutrient intake, leading to impaired growth in children. The long-term effects of stunting include decreased cognitive development, weakened immune systems making children more susceptible to illness, an increased risk of metabolic diseases such as obesity, heart disease, and vascular disorders, as well as learning difficulties. The underlying factors of stunting include insufficient calorie and protein intake, socio-economic factors (poverty), improper parenting due to a lack of knowledge and education for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, and low education and awareness regarding proper feeding practices for infants and toddlers (adequate breastfeeding). To address this issue, counseling and socialization on the role of animal protein in complementary feeding (MPASI) are necessary to provide knowledge and awareness for mothers about stunting prevention by utilizing livestock products such as milk, meat, and eggs. Evaluation results indicate that the counseling and socialization efforts have successfully enhanced participants' understanding and encouraged them to apply the information they received. This initiative is further supported by the local government of Waiheru Village, which is also committed to reducing stunting prevalence, making this effort highly beneficial.

Abstract

Sago leaves are one of the biomass potentials that contain cellulose so that they can be used as raw materials for charcoal briquettes. The purpose of community service activities is to increase community knowledge so that they can utilize biomass potential as an alternative energy source. The stages of activities in implementing PKM activities are a social approach to the Ureng Village government one month before the PKM activity date. PKM activities are carried out in two sessions, namely: delivery of materials and practice of making charcoal briquettes starting from carbonization of sago leaves, making charcoal briquettes and utilizing charcoal briquettes by burning sago leaf charcoal briquettes. This activity went well because the people of Ureng Village were very enthusiastic, this was reflected when building a dialogue in the form of questions related to how to make charcoal briquettes.
