Abstract

Background: The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into higher education has the potential to enhance teaching and learning processes. However, its implementation is often hindered by various contextual and institutional factors, especially in developing regions such as Anambra State, Nigeria. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the challenges and factors influencing lecturers' teaching practices and professional competency needs in tertiary institutions within Anambra State, particularly in relation to the integration of AI in education. Method: A descriptive survey design was employed. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire distributed online via Google Forms to 62 lecturers. The instrument, divided into demographic and five-point Likert scale sections, was validated by experts and pilot-tested, yielding a reliability score of 0.85 (Cronbach’s alpha). Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 23, involving descriptive statistics (frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations) and inferential statistics (ANOVA). Result: Findings revealed that AI has several advantages, including personalized learning experiences, data-driven curriculum optimization, and enhanced instructional efficiency. Nonetheless, major challenges were identified, such as limited access to high-quality data, high implementation costs, lack of technical expertise, and educator resistance. Conclusion: While AI holds significant promise for improving tertiary education, its effective adoption requires addressing systemic barriers and equipping educators with the necessary skills and support. Contribution: This study provides practical insights for policymakers and educators to support the integration of AI into curriculum planning. It highlights the need for strategic investments in infrastructure, continuous training, and ethical frameworks to ensure effective and equitable implementation.

Abstract

Background: Continuous Assessment (CA) plays a critical role in shaping students’ learning experiences and academic attitudes. In tertiary institutions, especially those training future educators, understanding the influence of CA on students' learning attitudes is essential for improving instructional practices and learning outcomes. Objective: This study investigated the influence of continuous assessment (CA) on primary education students' attitudes towards learning in tertiary institutions in Anambra State. It also examined contributing factors such as CA practices, resource availability, and student-lecturer ratios. Method: A descriptive research design was employed. Data were collected using a 40-item questionnaire validated by experts. The questionnaire was distributed via Google Forms and shared through social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook groups. A total of 63 correctly completed responses were obtained. The data were extracted, coded in Microsoft Excel, and analyzed using SPSS software through mean and standard deviation calculations. Result: Findings show that CA has a positive impact on students' attitudes by offering regular feedback, fostering self-awareness, and reducing test anxiety. Nonetheless, effective implementation of CA is challenged by limited resources, time constraints, and large student-lecturer ratios. Conclusion: While continuous assessment contributes significantly to improving students' attitudes toward learning, systemic issues must be addressed to maximize its benefits. Contribution: This study provides valuable insights for educational stakeholders on the strengths and challenges of implementing continuous assessment in tertiary education. It underscores the need for collaborative efforts to improve resource allocation and lecturer support. Further research is recommended to investigate other variables affecting students’ learning attitudes in higher education contexts.

Abstract

Background: In response to the growing need for student-centered learning approaches in elementary education, the Group Investigation (GI) model offers a collaborative framework that encourages active participation, critical thinking, and meaningful learning. Thematic learning, which integrates multiple subjects around a central theme, benefits from such interactive models that foster deeper understanding and engagement. Objective: This study examines the impact of the Group Investigation (GI) learning model on students' learning outcomes in thematic learning at SD IT UMMI Kota Bengkulu. Method: Using a quantitative experimental approach with a nonequivalent group posttest design, this research compares students' learning outcomes between an experimental class (applying the GI model) and a control class (using conventional methods) through pretests and posttests. Results: The GI model had a significant effect on students' learning outcomes. The mean score of the experimental class (0.46) was higher than that of the control class (0.35), with a confidence interval of the difference ranging from 0.10 to 18.77 at a 5% significance level. This indicates an average learning outcome improvement of 0.10. Conclusion: The GI model is effective in enhancing conceptual understanding, social interaction, collaboration, and critical thinking skills among students. Contribution: This study contributes by recommending the GI model as an innovative teaching strategy and serving as a reference for future research on collaborative learning methods.

Abstract

Background: Students’ interest in learning, especially in practical religious subjects such as ablution skills, often tends to be low when traditional teaching methods are applied. An engaging and hands-on approach is needed to increase student motivation and involvement. Objective: This study aims to increase elementary school students' interest in learning through the application of the demonstration method in teaching ablution skills. Method: This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in 2023 at State Elementary School 09 Ipuh, Mukomuko Regency. The sample consisted of 20 fourth-grade students. Data were collected through observation and tests, then analyzed using predetermined formulas focusing on the completeness of student learning outcomes. Result: The findings showed that the use of the demonstration method improved students' interest and performance in learning ablution skills. In Cycle II, all students achieved learning scores above the Minimum Completeness Criteria (MCC), indicating increased interest and understanding. Conclusion: The demonstration method is effective in enhancing student engagement and mastery of ablution material in elementary school settings. Contribution: This study provides practical insights for educators, particularly in Islamic education, by demonstrating that the demonstration method can significantly improve student interest and learning outcomes in skill-based religious content.

Abstract

Background: In Islamic education (PAI), particularly at the elementary level, students often find it challenging to engage with abstract or theoretical content, such as prayer material. Conventional lecture-based teaching methods tend to result in low motivation and limited knowledge retention. To overcome these issues, the use of innovative and interactive learning tools such as flashcards is being explored to enhance student comprehension and engagement. Objective This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of flashcard media in improving students’ learning outcomes in PAI, specifically on prayer-related material at SD Negeri 44 South Bengkulu. Method The research adopts a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach, conducted during the 2023 academic year, focusing on fourth-grade students (N = 18). Data collection methods include observation, interviews, documentation, and tests. Results Analysis of test results across research cycles, measured against the Minimum Completeness Criteria (MCC), demonstrates a consistent improvement in student performance. Conclusion The implementation of flashcard media significantly enhances student engagement and learning outcomes in Islamic education, particularly in mastering prayer material. Contribution This study contributes to the advancement of innovative, student-centered learning strategies within Islamic education, offering practical insights for classroom implementation.
