Abstract

Coronary heart disease, a leading global cause of death, including in Indonesia, is managed through promotive, preventive, and curative approaches, with cardiac catheterization evolving as a common non-surgical intervention method in Indonesian hospitals, aiming to improve patient’s quality of life and outcomes. This study examines the factors affecting patient satisfaction following cardiac catheterization and their impact on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Data was collected from 154 respondents at three private hospitals in Surabaya, Indonesia, through online questionnaires and analyzed using Partial Least-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). This study found that treatment outcome, physician-patient communication, attentive care, organization of care, and servicescape significantly influence patient satisfaction (p-value <0.05; CI 95%). In turn, patient satisfaction positively impacts HRQoL (p=0.000, β=0.848). The results indicate that the model has moderate explanatory power and strong predictive relevance in estimating patient satisfaction following cardiac catheterization. This study benefited hospital administration in improving patient satisfaction with catheterization services.

Abstract

Marriage and adolescent pregnancy have an effect on decision-making ability and an increased risk of complications during pregnancy and childbirth. The incidence of teenage pregnancy in 2019 was approximately 16.93% and increased to 17.03% in 2020 in South Kalimantan. This study aims to determine the decision-making experiences of underage marriage during pregnancy and childbirth in 2023. Methods: This qualitative study used a generic exploratory methodology. This study’s sample was selected using homogeneous purposive sampling to include five pairs of adolescents in Banjarmasin City. The research analysis used thematic analysis and was analyzed using NVivo. There are four major themes that emerge from the research findings: prior knowledge, skills, and preparedness to become parents, decision making, obstacles, and expectations. Teenagers who marry at a young age and have children younger than one year old lack the knowledge, skills, and maturity to become parents and are therefore incapable of making decisions. Parents and spouses have a significant impact on decision-making. During pregnancy and childbirth, decision-making autonomy is influenced by a lack of parental knowledge, skills, and preparation. It is expected that training and education that involve family decision-makers will increase the knowledge, skills, and readiness of couples to become parents

Abstract

The abundance of natural materials has attracted the attention of numerous researchers, who are now developing them into effective adsorbents for waste treatment applications. The waste stream in question includes laundry liquid waste from workshops, which is discharged directly into the environment via soil or drainage channels without any form of pretreatment. The lead content (Pb) in workshop laundry liquid waste is hazardous if discharged into the environment because it is difficult to degrade. This study investigates a filtration media composed of a combination of natural adsorbents—coconut shell charcoal, pumice stone, and hair waste as an option for treating workshop laundry liquid waste. This research was conducted in January 2021 and focuses specifically on its effectiveness in reducing Pb levels. Adsorbents are arranged in a 60 cm diameter barrel with a height of 40 cm for each adsorbent. Laboratory analysis for the lead test method according to SNI 6989.8.2009 with Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (SSA) shows a decrease in Pb levels starting from the control to the first repetition, second repetition, and third repetition, where the final results show that Pb levels are safe to be discharged into the environment because they are below the environmental quality standards based on the Regulation of the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia Number 5 of 2014 concerning Wastewater Quality Standards, which is a maximum of 0.03 mg/L. Filtration A showed a Pb level of 0.021 (50% decrease), and Filtration B showed a Pb level of 0.106 (80% decrease)

Abstract

This study analyzes public perception of hospital dental polyclinic services in Indonesia through big data sentiment analysis of 3,075 tweets from the X platform (January–November 2024), using keywords like “dental hospitals” and “dental poly hospitals.” Employing a descriptive design, data was crawled via Google Colab, followed by preprocessing steps: duplicate removal, non-essential character cleanup, normalization, tokenization, stopword elimination, and stemming. The Naïve Bayes Classifier algorithm classified sentiments, revealing 61.54% negative sentiment (1,571 tweets) and 38.46% positive sentiment (982 tweets), with 73% model accuracy, 0.73 negative precision, and 0.90 negative recall. Negative sentiments highlighted issues, such as long waiting times, inadequate facilities, and BPJS-related administra- tive delays, while positive sentiments praised professional staff and comprehensive facilities. Field data from tweet analysis showed frequent complaints about procedural discomfort (e.g., “pain,” “pluck”) and appreciation for competent doctors. SWOT analysis, triangulated with multi-stakeholder assessments (hospital administrators, directors, dentists), yielded an IFAS score of 7.04 and an EFAS score of 6.84, indicating strong internal capabilities but operational inefficiencies. Strategic recommendations include optimizing workflows, standardizing services, and leveraging public awareness to enhance specialized dental care, addressing public dissatisfaction for sustainable service improvement.

Abstract

Indonesia is ranked third with the highest level of Sugar-Sweetened Beverages (SSB) consumption in Southeast Asia in 2020. SSB consumption is one of the factors in the increase in cases of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in society, especially in children. Research purposes is to get an overview of knowledge and perceptions related to SSB consumption at various levels of education (elementary school, middle school, high school and university students). A quantitative method was used with a target population of 19,880 students across elementary, middle, high schools, and universities in Central Semarang. Proportional stratified random sampling yielded a sample size of 376 participants using the Isaac and Michael formula. The study used an SSB knowledge and perception questionnaire along with FGD guidelines. Chi-square and ANOVA tests revealed that knowledge and perceptions significantly influence SSB consumption across education levels (F: 28.053, sig 0.000), indicating that greater awareness could encourage healthier choices. The lack of knowledge about SSB consumption was most evident among elementary school children, with 72.19% reporting excessive intake. Negative perceptions were primarily found among students, followed by 56.16% in the student group, 43.48% in junior high, and 18.39% in high school. In conclusion, our study contributes to the understanding of the knowledge and perceptions in this research together have a significant influence on SSB consumption at various levels of education. This research provides insights into the importance of nutritional awareness at an earlier stage of education. Future studies should address the education intervention od SSB consumption in children.

Abstract

Anxiety is a common emotional response among children undergoing invasive medical procedures such as circumcision, which can compromise procedural comfort and increase resistance. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a space adventure-themed Virtual Reality (VR) application as a distraction medium to reduce anxiety in boys during circumcision procedures. It involved 26 children aged 10–14 who participated in this study. Anxiety levels were measured using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-T) instrument before and after the intervention. The application was designed using an Affective Virtual Reality methodology, which integrates emotional elements and immersive experiences into a virtual environment to create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. VR was used during the procedure to distract children from painful and fearful stimuli. The results showed decreased anxiety levels after the intervention, indicating that VR technology is effective as a non-pharmacological distraction strategy in clinical contexts. These findings contribute to the use of immersive technology as an innovative approach to supporting children’s psychological comfort during medical procedures and open opportunities for developing similar interventions in other pediatric medical contexts.

Abstract

In Indonesia, central obesity among people aged 15-54 years has become a health problem that continues to increase from 2018 (30.8%) to 2023 (36.8%) and significantly contributes to degenerative diseases. This study aims to analyze dietary patterns and consumption of risky foods related to central obesity in Indonesia using a spatial analysis approach. Data are sourced from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) Report with 38 provinces as the analysis unit. The variables studied include consumption of risky foods (sweet foods and drinks, salty foods, markers, seasonings, and instant noodles) and consumption patterns of foods such as nuts, milk, sugar, oil, vegetables, and fruit. Data analysis was carried out using Moran’s I and Local Indicator of Spatial Autocorrelation (LISA) to identify spatial autocorrelation and Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) as the regression analysis. The results show that the incidence of central obesity in Indonesia forms a clustered pattern across provinces. OLS regression analyzed the main variables that were significantly related, namely consumption of salty foods, fried/fatty foods, nuts, and vegetables and fruit. The negative association between salty foods and nuts is explained by local cultural factors and relatively low-calorie consumption, while the positive association between fruit and vegetable consumption indicates low consumption frequency, thus suboptimal preventive factors for central obesity. These findings demonstrate the need for community nutrition interventions that consider spatial variation across provinces to improve the effectiveness of central obesity prevention efforts in Indonesia.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to inform that consent is a crucial part of medical procedures, particularly in obstetrics, serving as legal protection for both patients and medical personnel. International studies show that 44.7% of women in France did not provide consent before administering oxytocin in 2021, and in Indonesia, only 55% of patients fully understood their rights and informed consent procedures by 2024. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the law regarding informed consent in obstetric procedures and identify the legal barriers encountered. The  method used was normative legal research with a legislative approach and qualitative data analysis using NVivo. The results showed that although written consent procedures are widely implemented, the substance of the information provided is often not well understood by patients. The primary legal barriers identified were incomplete documentation, lack of patient understanding, and time constraints in medical emergencies. The study concluded that despite clear regulations, their implementation still faces significant obstacles. Recommendations include improving medical personnel’s understanding of the importance of clear communication, improving documentation, and providing legal training for patients. The recommendation of this study is the need to improve regulations and procedures to ensure more effective and comprehensive implementation of informed consent.

Abstract

Education is a fundamental right for all children, both within schools and in the family environment. The psychological well-being of mothers plays a crucial role in raising children with autism. Various factors contribute to the formation of maternal psychological well-being, one of which is gratitude. This study aims to examine the correlation effect size between gratitude and mothers’ psychological well-being in raising children with autism. A meta-analysis was conducted on seven research articles and two research reports identified through Google Scholar, Portal Garuda, and Indonesia ONESEARCH within the last eight years (2018-2025). The total number of participants was 523 mothers of children with autism. Data were analyzed using correlation effect size (correlation coefficient r and sample size N). The effect size value obtained from the random effects model was r = 0.878, p < 0.001. The findings indicate that gratitude and psychological well-being have a strong effect size and are positively correlated. The higher level of gratitude, the higher psychological well-being of mothers in educating children with autism. Mothers with greater psychological well-being are better able to optimally educate and nurture their children with autism, enabling the children to grow and develop across various aspects in accordance with expectations and conditions.

Abstract

Climate change represents a significant global crisis affecting human well-being, with over 59% of youth reporting extreme concern. This study aimed to investigate factors contributing to climate anxiety among adolescents in Medan City, Indonesia, a region vulnerable to climate-related challenges. A cross-sectional study was conducted between February and April 2024, involving 372 adolescents aged 12 to 19 years from Medan City. Data on sociodemographic characteristics, climate change knowledge, attitudes, and anxiety levels were collected using an online questionnaire. Statistical analyses included univariate descriptions and chi-square tests. Significant associations were observed between climate anxiety and gender, education level, sources of information, knowledge, and attitudes. Males exhibited lower odds of experiencing anxiety compared to females (OR = 0.472, p = 0.001). Higher education (p = 0.003), use of electronic media as an information source (OR = 0.466, p = 0.029), strong climate change knowledge (OR = 3.933, p < 0.001), and positive attitudes toward climate action (OR = 7.269, p < 0.001) were associated with increased anxiety. This study highlights the complex relationship between adolescents’ understanding of climate change and their emotional responses, emphasizing the necessity for targeted interventions to address climate anxiety within this demographic.
