Abstract

The level of dependence of stroke sufferers on family caregivers will increase along with the complications experienced by stroke sufferers. The role of the family is to contribute to the rehabilitation process at home in the form of physical and psychosocial benefits. One effort can be made by providing Range of Motion exercises to stroke sufferers. Different family backgrounds and the importance of empowering the role of family caregivers require media that is informative and can be accessed anywhere. This study aimed to test the effectiveness of the Electronic-Module Range of Motion (E-ROM) for family caregivers in carrying out ROM and assessing muscle strength in stroke sufferers—a quasi-experimental research design with a pretest-posttest control group design. Research analysis used the Wilcoxon Test and Mann-Whitney Test. The sample consisted of 46 respondents for the treatment group and control group. The intervention providing E-Module ROM exercises was given to family caregivers, and assistance was provided. ROM exercises for stroke sufferers are carried out twice daily for two weeks. Health education with Electronic-Module Range of Motion (E-ROM) can increase muscle strength in stroke sufferers.

Abstract

Early childhood development determines the quality of future generations. A mother is crucial in encouraging a child’s growth and development. This research aims to determine the influence of social psychological factors that influence maternal behavior on healthy child growth and development using the Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) model. This cross-sectional study was conducted from July to October 2023 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. A sample of 400 mothers with children under five (12-59 months). The dependent variable is the maternal behavior in child development, and the independent variables are observational learning, outcome expectations, self-efficacy, and family support. All variables were measured by questionnaire, and the data were analyzed by path analysis using Stata 13 statistical software. A maternal’s behavior is directly and positively related to observational learning (b= 0.28, p<0.001), outcome expectations (b= 0.24, p<0.001), self-efficacy (b= 0.37, p<0.001), and family support (b= 0.09, p=0.005). The goodness of fit path analysis indicates p > 0.05, RSME< 0.001, TFI= 1.00, TLI= 1.00, and SRMR< 0.001. A maternal’s behavior is directly and positively related to observational learning, outcome expectations, self-efficacy, and family support. Interventions to improve mothers’ healthy behavior in accelerated child development should prioritize efforts to increase self-efficacy.

Abstract

Synthetic larvicides are often used to control Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, but they are detrimental to humans, the environment, and the occurrence of resistance. The purpose of the study was to determine the influence and effectiveness of red ginger essential oil (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum) as the biolarvicide of Ae. Aegypti and the most effective concentration (LC50). A total of 25 instar 3 larvae with concentrations of 200, 400, 600, and 800 ppm and K+(temephos), K-(aquaade), four repetitions every 30 minutes of observation for 3 HSPs. The results of the study showed that red ginger essential oil affected the death of Ae. Aegypti larvae. There was a significant difference in mortality rates between concentrations (Kruskal-Wallis test, p = 0.001). Likewise, there was a moderate but significant correlation between concentration and mortality (Spearman correlation: r = +0.503, p = 0.001). The probit analysis, LC50 was 257.89 ppm, most effectively influencing mortality in Ae. Aegypti larvae based on LC50. Red ginger essential oil (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum) is effective and effective as a bio-larvicide to control Ae. aegypti so that it can reduce dengue fever cases.

Abstract

Urban sanitation remains a critical public health issue, with community participation recognized as a key factor in the success of sanitation programs. This study aims to explore the multi-dimensional factors influencing community participation in the urban setting of Koja. Through a mixed-methods approach, including surveys, interviews, and observational studies, we investigated how socio-demographic factors such as age, gender, income, and occupation, as well as aspects of sanitation governance, infrastructure, and educational interventions, interplay to affect community engagement. The study revealed that while infrastructure and access are crucial, socio-economic and gender-related barriers significantly impact participation levels. Educational level emerged as a strong predictor of engagement, indicating that awareness and knowledge play a critical role in motivating community involvement. Furthermore, sanitation governance and the quality of policies and monitoring were found to be instrumental in shaping public attitudes towards participation. The research highlights the necessity for integrated and inclusive sanitation policies that address the local context and socio-economic diversity of urban populations. The findings underscore the importance of targeted educational campaigns and the fostering of collaborative community relationships to enhance participation in sanitation programs. This study contributes to the discourse on urban sanitation by providing a nuanced understanding of the complex factors at play in community-based sanitation efforts, offering insights for policymakers to improve public health outcomes.

Abstract

Acne vulgaris is a skin disease caused by chronic inflammation in the pilosebaceous unit, which produces sebum. The factors causing acne vulgaris are multifactorial and interact with each other. Medical students are a subgroup of society who are vulnerable to experiencing sleep disorders. Therefore, this study aims to explore the relationship between acne and sex, sleep quality, and skin type, especially in medical students. This research uses survey methods and analytical observation with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique is stratified random sampling. Validated questionnaires were used to assess sleep quality and skin type. Univariate analysis showed that of the 85 participants, the majority were female and aged 20 years. The prevalence of acne in this study was 52.9%. Most respondents had poor sleep quality (63.5%) and oily skin (69.4%). Based on bivariate analysis, acne vulgaris was significantly related to sleep quality (p=0.046) and skin type (p=0.025). Multivariate analysis showed that skin type had the most robust relationship with acne vulgaris (OR = 2.876; 95% CI = 1.077-7.685).

Abstract

The populations of all countries, including Indonesia, are aging, leading to an increasing elderly population with a greater number of health issues and comorbidities. The aim was to determine whether involvement in an interdisciplinary care program can help elderly individuals maintain physical activities of daily living. This was a quantitative longitudinal study with a quasiexperimental one-group pretest–posttest design. Fifteen participants were included, and one participant died before the 6-month follow-up. The Indonesian version of the Barthel Index was used to measure physical activities of daily living (PADLs) before and at one, three and six months after the intervention. Linear regression models using the generalized estimating equation approach were used to determine significant PADLs changes and predictive factors. The mean total PADL score at T1, T2 and T3 increased significantly compared to that at T0 (p<.001). Age (β=-0.33; p=.001), diabetes mellitus (β=-2.16; p=.001), stroke (β=-5.78; p=.001) and congestive heart failure (β=-10.68; p=.001) were the strongest predictors of PADLs. Interdisciplinary team care may help elderly individuals maintain PADLs. The risk factors for PADLs deterioration were older age and comorbidities, including diabetes mellitus, stroke and heart failure. A subsequent investigation of homogeneous participants with a control group is suggested for future studies.

Abstract

According to Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) data from the last 12 years, the prevalence of strokes in Indonesia is still relatively high. Hypertension prevention aims to keep blood pressure under control. Non-pharmacological management is also required to supplement pharmacological therapy. Deep breathing exercises and head-up 30 degrees are two interventions that can be implemented. This study aimed to measure the influence of deep breathing exercises and head up 30 degrees on stroke patients’ oxygen saturation and blood pressure. This research used a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design involving the recruitment of 60 respondents using a consecutive sampling technique. Head-up 30-degree positions and continuous deep breathing were measured using a digital sphygmomanometer, protractor, and oximeter. Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney. The results showed that there was a significant difference in systolic blood pressure which was p=0.000 (p <0.005), and oxygen saturation showed p=0.001 (p <0.005). But there was no significant difference in diastolic blood pressure which was p=0.836 (p> 0.005). Deep breathing exercises and head-ups 30 degrees help control blood pressure in stroke patients.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of central obesity among children and adolescents is a significant concern for public health, as it can lead to various health risks and complications. This study aimed to provide comprehensive updates using the keywords “central obesity,” and “children” or “adolescent”. The Scopus electronic database was searched for relevant articles to compile the basic publishing and citation data found in the article’s title, abstract, and keyword. The author, country, journal, and keyword networks were visualized using the bibliometric software program VOSviewer and biblioshiny. Of 1,190 articles, this study suggests the growth advancement with a 7.84% annual growth rate. The Plos One is the most international publication. The United States is the country leading in this topic. We find four theme clusters: obesity, central obesity, metabolic syndrome, and adolescents. The analysis shows that the diagnosis through anthropometric measurements, body fat assessment, metabolic syndrome, and complications were the major well-known research. The growing interest and future interest topics were waist-to-hip ratio, waist-to-height ratio, lifestyle, adiposity, and dyslipidemia. This bibliographic study showed the expanding publications of central obesity in children and adolescents and suggested several critical themes for future research.

Abstract

Culex sp. can transmit diseases such as encephalitis and filariasis which is a public health problem because of elephantiasis, disability, and a neglected tropical disease. To prevent these diseases, the mosquitoes need to be eradicated and larvicides are considered to control them at their early stage. Temephos, a synthetic larvicide, could cause several disadvantage, such as potential toxicity against non-target organisms and easierto-develop mosquito resistance. Botanical sources from Indonesian spices i.e. galangal (Alpinia galanga (L.) Willd.) and basil (Ocimum sanctum L.) are potentially used as larvicide. This study aimed to explore the larvicidal effect of their essential oils compared against temephos against Culex sp. A true experimental study was done using several concentrations and replications of these essential oils in each container, consisting of 25 third instar of Culex sp larvae for 24 hours at room temperature according to WHO procedure. The percentage of dead larvae was analyzed by ANOVA/ Kruskal Wallis. The study showed that Alpinia galanga ( L.) Willd. and Ocimum sanctum L. essential oils had larvicide activity and their activity starting from 140 ppm and 400 ppm consecutively was the same as temephos 1 ppm.
