Abstract

Anemia during the second trimester of pregnancy is a common hematological disorder that may affect both maternal and fetal health. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between adherence to iron tablet consumption and the incidence of anemia among second-trimester pregnant women. A cross-sectional design was applied with a total of 45 participants. Data were collected through structured interviews and hemoglobin documentation from maternal health records. Adherence was classified as high, moderate, or low, and anemia was categorized as mild, moderate, or severe. The results showed that 60% of respondents demonstrated high adherence, and the same proportion experienced mild anemia. Spearman Rank test revealed a very strong relationship between adherence and anemia (r = –0.875; p = 0.000). The findings indicate that higher adherence correlates with lower anemia severity. The success of iron supplementation programs depends on consistent behavior, health worker support, and family involvement. This study is limited in geographical scope and sample size, warranting cautious interpretation. Future research should explore behavioral, nutritional, and social determinants more comprehensively.

Abstract

Child growth is a key indicator of health and well-being in early life. One of the influencing factors is the history of basic immunization. Basic immunization serves as a preventive measure against infectious diseases that may interfere with a child’s physical development. This study aimed to determine the relationship between basic immunization history and the growth status of infants aged 9–24 months at PMB Wiwik Indriani, Sungai Ulin. The study used a descriptive-analytic design with a cross-sectional approach and involved 35 infants selected through total sampling. Data were obtained from immunization records and anthropometric measurements, including weight, height, and upper arm circumference. Analysis using the Spearman Rank correlation test showed a strong positive relationship between immunization history and infant growth status (r = 0.615; p = 0.000). Infants who had completed basic immunization tended to show better growth outcomes. These findings support the importance of complete immunization as a promotive strategy to enhance optimal growth in early childhood.

Abstract

Anemia during pregnancy remains a prevalent health issue with adverse outcomes for both mother and fetus. This study aims to examine the relationship between maternal nutritional status and the incidence of anemia during pregnancy. A cross-sectional design was applied involving 40 pregnant women as respondents. Nutritional status was assessed through anthropometric measures, and hemoglobin levels were recorded from maternal health records. Data were analyzed using Spearman Rank correlation. The findings show that most respondents had fair to poor nutritional status, and all experienced anemia, with a predominance of moderate to severe levels. The correlation test revealed a very strong relationship between nutritional status and anemia (r = 0.916; p = 0.000). These results indicate that inadequate nutritional status strongly correlates with higher anemia severity. A monotonous diet, low in animal protein and vegetables, and limited nutrition knowledge contribute substantially to this condition. Furthermore, household decision-making around food often excludes the pregnant mother. Prevention strategies should emphasize nutrition education and behavioral change, rather than relying solely on supplementation. Health services should also involve families in sustaining healthy dietary practices during pregnancy.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding for six months is crucial for infant growth, development, and health. However, in various regions, breastfeeding mothers still experience obstacles in breast milk production, resulting in suboptimal exclusive breastfeeding. One intervention that can be implemented to increase breast milk production is Oketani massage, a breast massage technique that stimulates the hormones prolactin and oxytocin. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effect of Oketani massage on breast milk production in breastfeeding mothers in the Kassi-Kassi Community Health Center. Methods: The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest approach for the experimental and control groups. A sample of 28 respondents was divided into two groups (14 respondents with Oketani massage and 14 respondents without massage). Data were collected through observations of breast milk volume before and after the intervention, then analyzed using a t-test. Results: The results showed a significant difference in breast milk production before and after Oketani massage (p = 0.001). Average breast milk production increased in the group receiving Oketani massage compared to the control group. Conclusion: The study concluded that Oketani massage has a positive effect on increasing breast milk production in breastfeeding mothers. Healthcare workers are advised to teach and practice Oketani massage as a way to improve the success of exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health concern in Indonesia, including in densely populated urban areas such as Bandarharjo, Semarang. Stunting is caused by chronic malnutrition and recurrent infections during the first 1,000 days of life (WHO, 2015). This study aims to evaluate the implementation of health promotion programs in reducing stunting rates in the Bandarharjo Community Health Center (Puskesmas) service area. This study employs a qualitative approach using the CIPP evaluation model (Context, Input, Process, Product) to assess the extent to which the program is implemented and effective in practice. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with key informants and triangulation, including health promotion officers, nutritionists, midwives, environmental health workers, Posyandu cadres, and mothers of infants. The results indicate that the program is functioning reasonably well in terms of education and cross-sectoral collaboration; however, challenges remain, including low community awareness, physical environmental barriers, and limitations in personnel and facilities. Innovations such as “Srigunting” add value to program implementation. The CIPP evaluation revealed that interventions are occurring at all stages; however, strengthening is needed in the process and monitoring aspects to ensure more optimal and sustainable outcomes.

Abstract

Human skin requires care to prevent and treat acne caused by Propinobacterium acnes bacteria. Researchers are exploring the use of avocado leaves as a natural therapy to treat acne. Avocado leaves contain antibacterial and anti-inflammatory compounds such as flavonoids, saponins, and alkaloids. This study aims to measure the total flavonoid and phenolic content in extracts obtained with 70% ethanol and avocado ethyl acetate and analyze their anti-acne activity. Total flavonoids were determined using a reagent consisting of 10% AlCl3 and 5% acetic acid. Total phenolic determination was carried out using the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent with gallic acid as a reference standard. Measurement of phytochemical levels used the UV-Vis spectrophotometry method. Antibacterial testing was carried out using Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with concentrations of 12%, 14%, and 16%. The positive control used clindamycin. The negative control used 10% DMSO. The disc diffusion method was used to observe the inhibition zone in this study. The results of this study will be processed using chemometrics to analyze complex chemical data. The data results showed that 70% ethanol extract produced total flavonoid levels of 8.6954% mgEK/mL and total phenolics of 15.4385% mgEAG/mL, higher than ethyl acetate extract with total flavonoid results of 3.418% mgEK/mL and total phenolics of 4.6052% mgEAG/mL. The results of antibacterial activity at concentrations of 12%, 14%, 16%, 70% ethanol extract were 10.5±0.70 mm; 12.1±0.28 mm; 14.3±0.57 mm, respectively, which had higher activity than ethyl acetate extract with results of 9.1±0.28 mm; 10.5±0.5 mm; 12.3±0.57 mm, the highest antibacterial activity at a concentration of 16%. Chemometric analysis using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) showed a strong positive correlation between phytochemical content and antibacterial activity. The highest antibacterial activity was found in the 70% ethanol extract at a concentration of 16%.

Abstract

Hypertension is a major health problem among the elderly and a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease. In Central Java, the prevalence of hypertension among the elderly ranked the highest in Indonesia in 2021 at 32.5%, and by 2024, it had markedly increased to 71.47%. This alarming rise highlights the urgent need for effective and practical interventions that can be implemented at the community level. One non-pharmacological intervention that has been shown to help lower blood pressure is ergonomic exercise, a form of physical activity designed to be safe, low-impact, and suitable for older adults. This study aimed to determine the effect of ergonomic exercise on the blood pressure of elderly individuals with hypertension in Gayam Village, Sukoharjo Regency. This research employed a quantitative, pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of 17 elderly respondents selected through purposive sampling. Blood pressure measurements were obtained using a sphygmomanometer. The ergonomic exercise intervention was administered three times per week, with each session lasting 23 minutes, over a set intervention period. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to assess differences in systolic and diastolic blood pressure before and after the intervention. The analysis revealed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant reduction in blood pressure following the exercise program. These findings suggest that ergonomic exercise can effectively reduce blood pressure in elderly individuals with hypertension and may serve as a supportive, low-cost, and easily implemented intervention in community health programs. It is recommended that ergonomic exercise be incorporated into routine elderly health promotion activities to help control hypertension and improve overall cardiovascular health.
