Abstract

This research explores the levels of self-confidence, emotional regulation, and discipline in achieving goals among Karate and Sepaktakraw athletes in South Sulawesi. Using a mixed-method approach that combines surveys and structured observations, the study examines psychological characteristics and their impact on athletic performance. Data were collected from selected athletes through questionnaires and direct observations conducted during training sessions and competitions. The results indicate that self-confidence, emotional control, and goal commitment are key contributors to performance outcomes. However, despite the majority of athletes demonstrating high levels in these variables, notable variations were found, particularly among Karate athletes. Some exhibited moderate levels of emotional regulation and discipline, suggesting that individual differences may influence these traits. Such findings underline the importance of tailored psychological interventions that cater to the unique needs of athletes in different sports disciplines. This study emphasizes the necessity of integrating psychological training into coaching programs to enhance mental resilience, focus, and consistency in performance. By adopting a holistic coaching approach that addresses both physical and psychological dimensions, coaches can better support athletes in achieving peak performance at national and international levels. The insights from this research provide valuable guidance for sports practitioners, enabling the development of evidence-based strategies to optimize athletic potential through a deeper understanding of psychological factors.

Abstract

The Relationship Between Lower Extremity Sports Injuries and Stress Levels Among SSB Bina Muda Sukatani Players, Kabupaten Bekasi Sports injuries are a major factor affecting an athlete's physical and psychological condition. Lower extremity injuries are common among football players and can disrupt training sessions and matches. Stress is a physiological and psychological response to the pressure players face due to injuries. This study aims to examine the relationship between lower extremity sports injuries and stress levels among players at SSB Bina Muda Sukatani, Kabupaten Bekasi. This research employs a quantitative correlational design. The sample consists of 30 football players who have experienced lower extremity injuries. Data collection was conducted using the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) to measure injury levels and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) to assess players’ stress levels. Data analysis involved normality tests, linearity tests, Pearson correlation tests, and simple linear regression analysis using SPSS 26 software. The results indicate a significant relationship between lower extremity injuries and stress levels, with a correlation coefficient of 0.573, categorized as a moderate correlation. The more severe the injury, the higher the stress level experienced by the players. The primary cause of injuries was insufficient warm-up before training and matches. Severe injuries tend to increase psychological stress, whereas minor injuries have a lesser impact on players' mental well-being. Based on these findings, it is recommended that players and coaches focus on injury prevention training, including proper warm-up routines, muscle-strengthening exercises, and stress management programs to minimize the psychological effects of injuries.

Abstract

Hamstring strain is one of the most common injuries in sports, particularly in activities requiring sprinting and sudden acceleration. Effective physiotherapy intervention is essential to facilitate recovery, restore muscle function, and prevent recurrence. A 23-year-old male footballer presented with pain and tightness in the posterior thigh after a sprinting injury. The patient was diagnosed with a grade 2 hamstring strain and sought physiotherapy at Fisiohands Clinic, Pekanbaru, following an initial medical evaluation. The rehabilitation program included ultrasound therapy, neuromuscular taping (NMT), and progressive isometric exercises. Pain reduction, increased flexibility, and improved functional capacity were observed after four weeks of intervention. The patient underwent a structured four-week physiotherapy protocol, including pain management, mobility training, and strengthening exercises. Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Goniometer and The Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS) were used for evaluation. After four weeks, the patient demonstrated pain reduction (VAS 7 to 2), increased flexibility (45° to 78°), and improved functional performance (LEFS 30 to 65). These findings indicate that ultrasound, NMT, and isometric exercises are effective modalities in acute hamstring strain rehabilitation.
