Abstract

This article focuses on library learning activities at Madania Primary School. This journal also explains about the activities carried out by the National Library of Indonesia in introducing libraries. The purpose of this journal is to find out the library learning activities at Madania Primary School and the obstacles they face. This research was conducted with qualitative methods. Data collection is done by interviewing, observing and documents studying. The conclusion of this study is that Madania Primary School library does not provide classroom supporting education in general. Moreover, the library provides library education so students are encouraged to be independent in learning, explore information, and maintain collections. Library learning is not in the form of learning to read or help class material in class. The lessons provided are knowledge about libraries covering four main topics, namely library values, library skills, literature skills, and research skills. The obstacle faced by the library staff is the difficulty of class management. Library staff who does not have a background in library science are also an obstacle in teaching.

Abstract

In 2018 General election, generation Z called as first-time voter who will use their right to vote. Statistic data of the 2018’s General Election Commission indicates that first-time voter in West Java Province reaching 30% of the total voters. This research described information seeking behavior among generation Z on West Java Governor Election. The purposed of this research are to identify characteristic of information needs among Z generation, identify information source used and information awareness among Z generation. This research uses qualitative approach and case study method. There are five high school students become informants in this research and uses purposive sampling techniques. The results of this study are characteristic of information needs Z generation on aspects of the context including election procedure, profile of governor candidates, campaign activities, programs offered. The frequency of information needs tends to be low and unpredictable. Information sources tend to use online sources through social media and online mass media but they also get other information from television, newspaper, sharing with friends, parents and family; In the aspect of awareness or understanding of information resources, familiarity and prior success, information packaging, cost and accessibility affects information seeking behavior of Z generation but they have obstacle to assess the quality of information. This makes Z generation easily accept hoax information or provoked on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Youtube and Twitter.

Abstract

Transfer knowledge is part of the formation of knowledge management. In the digital era, the application of knowledge management is very broad. This condition can be seen from the track record of the results of thought by scientists who present knowledge management in their perspective. In accordance with its purpose as a free space to learn, PragerU through content uploaded on social media provides a visual picture of knowledge management. This research described the application of knowledge management through the type of communication that is created between PragerU activities and its users. This study uses descriptive research with a qualitative approach and uses documentation studies as a data collection technique. The results of this study indicate that the distribution of information between PragerU and its users is indirect. Furthermore, it was found that the existence of PragerU which acts as social capital has entered the level of one to three in the order of information sources.

Abstract

This research discusses Indonesia’s Ministry of Finance Library’s promotional effectiveness in making users intrigued to utilize the library. This study aims to discover the library’s promotional effectiveness level based on overall promotional mix concepts consisted of six sub-variables. Those six sub-variables include personal selling, advertising, sales promotion, public relation and publicity, learning materials, and corporate design sub-variables. It is quantitative research by using a survey method. The survey was conducted on 100 respondents with a convenience sampling technique. Research results showed that promotional efforts done by the library were considered effective with a score of 79.28%. The highest score lied on personal selling sub-variable with a gain of 87.47%, and the lowest score was placed on public relation and publicity subvariable in the amount of 74.86%. This study suggests the library to improve the effectiveness of public relation and publicity sub-variable by maximizing social media use potentials as the promotional media. The research is expected to enrich literature regarding the strategy of promotional effectiveness measurement in libraries with more comprehensive promotional mix aspects.

Abstract

Searching for lecture materials through digital media is more widely used compared to conventional media. Information literacy means being able to evaluate and combine information. The rapid development of information technology now requires students to be able to follow it. However, with a poverty percentage of 16.45%, Bengkulu Province has a more significant challenge to catch up. It is important to analyze how the relationship between digital information literacy and self-direct learning for students in weak areas of the Sumatra islands. The study was conducted in May 2018 with respondents as many as 100 students. Data processing is done by using rank spearman to see the relationship between information literacy and selfdirect learning. Based on the results of the study, identifying information is significantly related to learning to self-manage. Furthermore, evaluating information sources is significantly related to students thinking independently. While other factors are not related.

Abstract

The need of information is a basic need that is required to understand every moment in life. This is in accordance to the definition of information as an urge to overcome uncertainties or problems and to find solution and improvement. The need of information, be it a psychological, affective, or cognitive need, led someone to undertake an act of information seeking, known as information seeking behavior. The development of information seeking behavior nowadays expands into interdisciplinary study. One of them is using cultural dimension to have a better sight on the research. This paper discusses the information seeking behavior of the santri of the Madrasah Aliyah (Upper Secondary School students) Pondok Pesantren Jakarta, using the information seeking behavior Big Six Skill model from Eisenberg- Berkowitz, and two of Hofstede national cultural dimensions; Indonesian score of Power Distance and Individualism. This research will explore the uniqueness of Pondok Pesantren as one of typical Indonesian educational institution in coloring their students’ information seeking behavior.

Abstract

This research discusses social media utilization activities held in the UI Library as a promotional tool. The purpose of this study is to describe social media use by UI Library. The research applies the qualitative approach and case study method. Informants were chosen by using a purposive sampling technique. Results show that UI Library has utilized social media in the form of Twitter and Instagram as a means to promote the collections, services, or even the facilities there. The library also used social media to collect users’ responses, either recommendations or complaints, which were taken as evaluation materials for service improvement. This study suggests that the library should make written policy or SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) about social media management as a media of promotions and increase the number of interactions with users on Instagram. Findings from this research may also be records in order to arrange an academic library’s social media application guide, particularly in Universitas Indonesia, and on a bigger scale, in Indonesia.

Abstract

Games-based learning is a new concept that is used for teaching information literacy skills, which so far has been mostly given in classrooms and is one-way. The respondents taken were all new students participating in games-based learning activities, in 2018. In the implementation of games-based learning divided into 5 posts, where each post represents one information literacy skill material. The results are as follows identification of information (3.46), access to information (3.59), using information (3.36), synthesis (3.52) and plagiarism (3.55). With a total average of 3.47 while the average results of the level of collaboration and creativity obtained by 3.54. The conclusion is that students participating in this activity are very enthusiastic and happy so they can easily understand the material provided.

Abstract

This article discusses about information seeking behavior of 12th grade students of SMA Negeri 26 Jakarta to pursue higher education. This article also discusses obstacles found during the process of information searching. This is a qualitative research with observation and interview as methods to collect data. The result shows that all informants conducted searching about higher education in the same way with what was stated by David Ellis (1993) started with starting, chaining, browsing, differentiating, monitoring, extracting, verifying, and ending.

Abstract

Community library comes from community information needs. Community library was born because of dissatisfaction to information access in public library service. Community library also can support the process of community knowledge creation in the society. Perpustakaan Anak Bangsa is a community library which operates in Jabung Village Malang Disctrict since 1998. The aim of this research is to demonstrate the Perpustakaan Anak Bangsa activities in society knowledge creation process. This research used case study method with qualitative approach. The research shows that Perpustakaan Anak Bangsa’s main role is helping the process of knowledge creation by providing reading materials. In other activity, Perpustakaan Anak Bangsa makes an innovation with correlation between eduction function and recreation through user communities’ development. Perpustakaan Anak Bangsa is also active in information network.
