The ability of librarians who have developed during the pandemic and continue to be utilized in the post-pandemic period that adapts to circumstances is urgently needed. Librarians must strive to improve their capabilities with innovation in various services. This study aims to identify how to increase the ability of UI Librarians during a pandemic. The research approach in this study was qualitative with data collection methods namely interviews, observation, and document analysis. The results of the study showed that during the pandemic, librarians at the UI Library had new abilities both in librarianship and outside of librarianship. These capabilities include increasing ability to process data, improving communication skills, online teaching skills, creating content on social media, repairing website servers, and other capabilities outside the librarianship field. Apart from that, what is interesting about the ability of librarians at the UI Library during a pandemic is the ability to adapt to information technology. This is as a result of the pandemic which has temporarily closed work and services in the library.

Abstract

The Library and Archival Department of Sleman Regency, as the organization responsible for the administration of archives in Sleman Regency, has an outreach program for organizing family records called Genta Siaga. The Genta Siaga Program began in 2016 and was carried out every year until 2019. This outreach program was carried out to increase the awareness of the Sleman community towards the arrangement of family records. This is because Sleman Regency itself is one of the disaster-prone areas. Therefore, this research was conducted to find out about Genta Siaga as a pioneer of the family records management program in Indonesia, the technical implementation, and the benefits that the community got after participating in this program. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach and inductive theorization. The outreach program from the Library and Archival Department of Sleman Regency is the unit of analysis in this research. The method used in collecting data is observation, interview, and literature study. The data that has been obtained is then processed into information so as to obtain conclusions from the results of the study. The conclusion obtained from this research is that the Genta Siaga is a form of archiving for the community through outreach.Genta Siaga became a pioneer in the family records management program in Indonesia because it was implemented before the publications of the GNSTA regulations and the EMAS application. The stages of implementing the Genta Siaga Program itself include internal meetings, village meetings, the formation of cadres, socialization with cadres, socialization with the community, implementation, supervision, and evaluation. Village communities who have participated in these activities have also benefited from organizing family records, namely better arrangement of family records, safer family records, and the emergence of public awareness of disaster preparedness. However, there are still obstacles faced, including the difficulty of adjusting to the village community's time, the community's limited literacy, the condition of the records being damaged, and the budget limitations of the Library and Archival Department of Sleman Regency and the village government.

Abstract

Japan is no longer a rich country. The poverty rate for “a single adult household with at least one child” is the third highest among the 44 countries of OECD. Public libraries should provide study-aid books, workbooks, and IT equipment to poor students. Based of this idea, we first identified 129 study-aid books and workbooks for junior high and high school students. Next, we investigated whether public libraries of all 1,392 Japanese local governments held them. Then, we asked 631 students whether they wanted public libraries to hold the books and IT equipment such as Nintendo Switch and iPad. Furthermore, we gathered three students, provided books and IT equipment, and asked whether they wanted public libraries to hold them. It was shown that poor students wanted public libraries to have study-aid books and workbooks for English. Video games were desired by many students. Japanese public libraries should consider providing them.

Abstract

Collection development policy is a guideline for libraries in developing collections. The University of Indonesia library experienced a budget reduction and a change in procedures during the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this research is to identify what policies are taken by the University of Indonesia Library in the process of developing electronic collections. This study uses qualitative methods with data collection using interviews. Informants were determined by purposive sampling technique. The situation and conditions during the last five years have changed a lot. It also influences collection development policies. The policy was last revised in 2019. However, in 2020 Indonesia experienced a period of the COVID-19 pandemic which resulted in the library's condition changing due to the impact of COVID-19. The budget decline experienced by the University of Indonesia Library affected several collection development activities such as procurement and selection. The occurrence of a pandemic also led to changes in procedures for developing collections but these changes were not documented in writing. Therefore, the library needs to have written documents for the changes experienced during the budget decline and the pandemic.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of the topic of digital archives in order to find solutions to various problems in managing digital archives with the risks caused by the creation of digital archives. The method used is literature review related to digital archives published between 1982 and 2022 taken from Scopus database. “Digital archives” is used as a keyword to reach relevant publications. VOSviewer was applied to perform a bibliometric analysis of this article. A total of 1218 publications on the topic of digital archives with a total link strength of 1821 appeared as the most frequent keywords, having strong links to "digital library" and "metadata". In 1988 - 2015 digital archives articles experienced a significant increase. Current growth trends predict a large increase in the number of global publications on digital archives. The top two countries that contribute the most of digital archive research topics are the United States (354 articles) and the United Kingdom (142 articles). Born digital, personal digital archives, metadata standards and digital assets may become hot topics of research in the future.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia has forced all aspects of life to follow Covid-19 health protocols by reducing mobility so that physical contact can be minimized. Likewise, libraries must provide service innovations in order to reduce the physical contact and any risk to the virus transmission. The objective of this research is to identify trends and types of library service innovations in effort to confront Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. The method of this research is systematic literature review (SLR), which is a method that can be used to measure or identify a phenomenon or a question that involves and requires analysis of several literature resources. The results obtained from database search were found 24 literatures relevant to the topic of innovation trends in adjusting with the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Library innovation in the form of online library services dominates services in libraries and is also widely adapted. The types of library service innovations that are mostly carried out by libraries in Indonesia includes online circulation services with OPAC access through the website, the use of google forms, interaction of ask a Librarian with WhatsApp, Telegram, and Email. In the long term, this library innovation is expected to be able to serve and provide better library services, not only worthwhile during the pandemic.

Abstract

Information has become the main need of people's lives. The search for information related to health has recently become important for life, because with information a person can avoid being exposed to dangerous diseases. The type of research used is a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and literature study. This study uses the theory of information seeking behavior developed by Wilson in 2000. This study uses several informants who have the following categories; actively use the internet, have children, and search for health-related information. The results of this study indicate that the search for information begins with the need for information so that they can search for information, to reach the stage of using information, housewives seek information from various sources to determine the validity of an information. There are obstacles faced by housewives in the information search process, including not many media used to search for information, so that the information searched shows few references because it is only in one media. So in the process of searching for information, the housewives of Tawangrejo Village already have the ability to select information.
