Abstract

Background: Anemia in pregnant women remains an important public health problem because it contributes to an increased risk of pregnancy complications, hemorrhage, low birth weight, prematurity, and maternal and infant mortality. World Health Organization reported that the global prevalence of anemia among pregnant women is still around 36.5%, while in Indonesia the prevalence of anemia among pregnant women remains high based on national data and continues to be one of the priorities in maternal health problems. This condition is also still found in the working area of Puskesmas Sangkulirang. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between maternal characteristics and high-risk pregnancy with the incidence of anemia among pregnant women. Methods: This study employed an analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 47 third-trimester pregnant women selected using an accidental sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires, observation sheets, and hemoglobin level examinations, then analyzed using Fisher’s Exact Test with a significance level of 5%. Results: The results showed that most respondents were not anemic, totaling 30 respondents (63.8%). The majority were aged 20–35 years, totaling 25 respondents (53.2%), multiparous, totaling 20 respondents (42.6%), and unemployed, totaling 30 respondents (63.8%). In addition, most respondents were categorized as having low-risk pregnancies, totaling 19 respondents (40.4%). Bivariate analysis showed significant relationships between maternal age and anemia incidence (p=0.001), parity and anemia incidence (p=0.017), employment status and anemia incidence (p=0.026), as well as high-risk pregnancy and anemia incidence (p=0.013). Conclusion: These findings indicate that maternal characteristics and pregnancy risk factors play important roles in the incidence of anemia among pregnant women. Therefore, efforts to improve early detection and prevention through nutritional education and continuous monitoring of risk factors are necessary.

Abstract

Background: Postnatal care (PNC) is an essential effort to detect early danger signs during the postpartum period. Physiologically, the puerperium lasts for 42 days (6 weeks) after delivery; therefore, postpartum visits should ideally be conducted in accordance with health service standards within this period. The coverage of postpartum visits in the working area of the Kombeng Public Health Center showed a decline from 2024 to 2025, from 82.1% to 71.4% (a decrease of 10.7%), which is suspected to be related to maternal attitudes and family support regarding the importance of postpartum examinations. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the relationship between attitude and family support with postpartum visits among mothers. Methods: The study employed a quantitative method with an analytic descriptive design and a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all postpartum mothers during the 42-day postpartum period in January–February 2026, with a total sample of 38 respondents using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaires and maternal and child health (MCH) books/medical records, and analyzed using the Fisher’s Exact Test. Results: The results showed that most mothers had a positive attitude (63.2%), received family support (73.7%), and completed postpartum visits (73.7%). There was a significant relationship between attitude and postpartum visits (p = 0.002), as well as between family support and postpartum visits (p = 0.01). Conclusions: Conceptually, a less supportive maternal attitude toward postpartum visits is generally characterized by the perception that examinations are not necessary in the absence of complaints, whereas a positive attitude is reflected in the awareness that the postpartum period is a vulnerable phase requiring health monitoring. These findings indicate that psychosocial factors play a role in compliance with postpartum visits; therefore, improving education and involving families are essential to optimize postpartum visit coverage for the early detection of maternal health problems.

Abstract

Background: Anemia among adolescent girls remains a major public health problem that contributes to reduced immunity, fatigue, and impaired cognitive performance. This condition is commonly associated with inadequate iron intake and suboptimal iron absorption. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the effect of iron (Fe) tablets combined with date consumption on hemoglobin levels among adolescent girls at SMK Puspa Bangsa Banyuwangi in 2025. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was applied. The study involved 30 respondents divided into an intervention group (Fe tablets and dates) and a control group (Fe tablets only), with 15 participants in each group. Hemoglobin levels were measured before and after the intervention and analyzed using paired and independent t-tests. Results: The results indicated an increase in hemoglobin levels in both groups; however, the intervention group showed a significantly greater improvement (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The combination of Fe tablets and date consumption is more effective in improving hemoglobin levels compared to Fe tablets alone.
