Abstract

ABSTRACTFree radicals in cigarette smoke can destroy tissue and cells of the body. The activity of free radicals can bereduced by antioxidants from external and internal. The objective of this research is to investigate the effectsof vitamin C and vitamin E combination on the histopathology of rat liver exposed by subcronic cigarettesmoke. This research using true experimental study with post test only control group design. The sample othis research we used 32 Wistar rat, ages between 2-3 months, weight 150-200 grams divided 8 groupedCigarette smoke exposed for 10 weeks. Parameter will be measured is the number of liver cells damage(necrosis). Data analysis uses the One-Way ANOVA method followed by Turkey test. The result show thenumber of liver cells damage are significantly decrease. The conclution vitamin C and vitamin E combinationdecrease the number of the liver cells damage of the rat liver, that has been exposed to subcronic cigarettesmoke at optimal doze 0,20 mglg bw vitamin C and 0,04 lUlg bw vitamin E.Keywords: vitamin C, vitamin E, cigarette smoke, liver cells damage.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objective of this study was to prove that light intensity and heavy intensity of swim training can improvewide area of cross section, amount of fibroblas cell and thick of sharpey's fibre at achiles tendon. This studyused separate sample pretest-posttest control group design, with experimental animals the white rat (Rattusnorvegicus strain Wistar) Male, age around 3 weeks, counted 28 tails. Two treatment type that given were (1)light intensity of swim training (with giving of burden 3% Body Weight) and (2) heavy intensity of swim training(with giving of burden 9% Body Weight). Data is analysis by descriptive statistic, MANOVA and deskriminantest with trust level of 95%. Result of study was showed light intensity of swim training and heavy intensity, tobe increasing of wide area of cross section, amount of fibroblas cell and thick of sharpey's fibre compare toposttest control. MANOVA test result to respon change of treatment effect which get that treatment givesignificant difference (Trace Holtelling's, p<0,05). From discriminant test result was showed variable amountof fibroblas cell and thick of sharpey's fibre showing that have significant contribution of change response oftreatment (p<0,05), while variable wide area of cross section not showed significant contribution have ameaning of response change of treatment effect ( p>0,05).Keywords: intensity of swim training, wide area of cross section, fibroblas cell, sharpey’s fibre.

Abstract

ABSTRACTDiabetes mellitus is a chronic carbohydrate metabolism disturbance with many long term complications. Oneof its complications is diabetic wound risk to amputation. Wound care is nursing intervention aimed to preventthe risk of amputation. A cost effective evaluation is needed to identify the most benefecial wound care. Aquasi-experiment comparing modern and conventional with pretest and post test with control group designwas conducted with 16 selected patients. The outcome measure is wound healing process score based onBates-Jansen wound assessment while the cost measured is wound care material cost. An independent t testwith 95% confidence interval was performed to evaluate the difference of healing process and cost effectivitybetween modern and conventional dressing. The result showed a significant differences of healing processscore (p=0,002) and cost effectivity (p=0,031) between modern and conventional dressing application fordiabetic wound. It can be concluded that the application of modern dressing significantly improve the healingprocess in diabetic wound but with higher treatment cost. Keywords : Diabetic wound, Modern Dressing, Healing Process, Cost Effectivity Care

Abstract

ABSTRACTHistology expression in asthma show inflammatory processes and airway structural changes. Treatmentdevelopment in asthma needs appropriate animal models but most animal models use short term allergenexposure. The aim of this research was to create develop allergic mouse model with allergic inflammationand structural changes histology expression. Eight female BALB/c mice, 6-12 weeks old, 80-100 gramswere divided into two groups. The first group were exposed to a normal saline solution where the secondgroup received ovalbumin. Mice were sensitized by intraperitoneal injection of ovalbumin on day 0 and 14and challenged by nebulization of 1% ovalbumin three times weekly for 6 weeks. Twenty four hours afterfinal exposure, the mice were sacrificed by lethal cardiac puncture. The level of total IgE in serum weremeasured by ELISA and IL-4 receptor expression were examinated by immunohistochemistry.Morphometric analysis was performed to count inflammatory cells, eosinophil, goblet cells, epithel andsmooth muscle thickness. Differences between the control and exposed mice were analyzed by Mann-Whitney test. There were a significant differences in total IgE serum and expression IL-4 receptor betweenthe two groups (P < 0,05). The morphometric analyzing also demonstrated significant differences betweenthese two groups (P < 0,05). Chronic ovalbumin exposure through inhalation produced allergicinflammation and airway structural changes. Keywords: allergic inflammation, mouse models, chronic exposure, ovalbumin

Abstract

ABSTRACTOvalbumin is known as mast cell degranulating agent through the FCεRI aggregation. Carboxymethylchitosan (CMCs), a biocompatible cationic polymer was evaluated to reduces mast cell degranulation inducedby ovalbumin. In this experiment, wistar rats were darboxymethyl chitosanivided into 5 groups which consist of 1 control group and 4allergen groups. Among the allergen groups, 3 groups were treated with carboxymethyl chitosan/CMCs(doses : 0,25 mg, 0,50 mg and 1,00 mg) for 22 days. The result showed a significant (P<0,01) reduction inmast cell degranulation in allergen groups. This finding indicate that CMCs possesses antiinflammationactivity mediated by reducing of mast cell degranulation. Keywords : ,c mast cell degranulation

Abstract

ABSTRACTAsthma and obesity are prevalent disorders, each with a significant public health impact, and a large andgrowing body of literature suggests an association between the two. The systemic inflammatory milieu inobesity leads to metabolic and cardiovascular complications but this environment alters asthma risk orphenotype is not yet known. Studies that evaluated the effects of leptin and obesity on airway inflammationin response suggest that air way inflammation is enhanced by leptin. Leptin is stimulate a Th1 cytokineprofile and suppresses Th2 cytokine production. Whether resistance to the effects of the lung or on immunefunction is unknown, but such resistance might be expected to polarize to a Th2. The aim of this study isidentify effect of leptin to lung mast cell proliferation via shifting Th1/Th2 balance using diet-induced obesemice. Because there are contradictive between leptin immune function in leptin deficient and obese, tounderstand the effect of leptin in diet-induced obese mice on immune function, lung mast cell proliferationand correlation with IL-4 as represent cytokine Th2 and IL-2 represent cytokine Th1 has been studied.

Abstract

ABSTRACTPropolis is resin with complex chemical composition that collected by honeybees from various plants. It hasbeen known that propolis has several biological properties, such as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory,antioxidant and immunomodulatory activities. The aim of this study is to evaluate the propolis's cytotoxic andantiproliferative activity in vitro on hela cell line. These cells were incubated with different concentrations ofpropolis (5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 µg/ml) for different time periods (6, 24, dan 48 hours), and the number of viableand died cells were analyzed by trypan blue dye exclution and were counted using hemocytometer. Theresult of this study showed that the IC50 of local propolis against HeLa cell line is 27,725 µg/ml. It can beconcluded that local propolis extract exhibited a cytotoxic and antiproliferatif effect in vitro against HeLa cellline, in a dose- and time dependent.Key words: propolis, cytotoxic, antiproliferative, HeLa cell line
