Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to analyze the effect of transformational leadership and empowering leadership on job satisfaction and employee performance in organizations operating in the digital era. Design/methodology – This research uses a quantitative approach with an explanatory survey method to examine the empirical relationship among variables. The population consists of permanent employees working in service and education organizations that actively implement work digitalization. A total of 109 respondents were selected using purposive sampling based on tenure and direct involvement in the organization’s digital transformation process. Data were analyzed using quantitative techniques to test direct and indirect effects through job satisfaction as a mediating variable. Findings – The results show that both transformational leadership and empowering leadership have a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction and employee performance, directly and indirectly through job satisfaction. Leaders who inspire, serve as role models, and foster self-confidence among subordinates create a conducive work climate, enhancing motivation and productivity. The findings highlight that the combination of transformational and empowering leadership styles serves as an effective strategy to face modern leadership challenges, especially during digital transformation processes in Indonesian organizations.

Abstract

Purpose– This study investigates the influence of financial structure and liquidity on the financial performance of publicly listed banks in Indonesia. It analyzes the mediating role of Risk-Aware Strategic Planning (RASP) in strengthening the relationship between financial policies and bank performance. Design/methodology– This study employs a quantitative explanatory approach using secondary panel data from banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the 2020–2024 period. Financial performance is proxied by Return on Equity (ROE), financial structure by Equity-to-Assets Ratio (EAR), and liquidity by Loan-to-Deposit Ratio (LDR). Risk-Aware Strategic Planning (RASP) is constructed as a composite index based on content analysis of annual and sustainability reports, integrating strategic risk management and sustainable strategic planning. The data are analyzed using panel data regression with a Random Effects Model, followed by mediation testing through the causal steps approach and the Sobel test, with STATA employed as the analytical tool. Findings - The results indicate that financial structure has no direct impact on bank financial performance, whereas liquidity exerts a significant negative effect. Risk-Aware Strategic Planning (RASP) positively and significantly affects the financial performance of banks. The mediation analysis indicates that RASP fully mediates the link between financial structure and financial performance, and partially mediates the relationship between liquidity and performance. This implies that the effectiveness of financial structure and liquidity in enhancing bank performance is maximized when supported by robust, risk-aware, and sustainability-focused strategic planning.

Abstract

Purpose– This research is motivated by the increasing environmental issues and the importance of customer loyalty, where there is still a gap between product quality and the implementation of green marketing at Kopi Kenangan in Medan. This study aims to analyze the effect of product quality and green marketing on customer loyalty, with customer satisfaction as an intervening variable. Design/methodology– The research method uses a quantitative approach with data from 100 respondents via questionnaires, and is analyzed using PLS-SEM with the help of SmartPLS, including outer model, inner model, and hypothesis tests. Findings- The results of the study showed that product quality had no significant effect on customer satisfaction or loyalty, while green marketing and customer satisfaction had a significant effect on loyalty. Furthermore, customer satisfaction did not mediate the effect of product quality, but it did mediate the effect of green marketing, so loyalty was more influenced by green marketing and customer satisfaction.

Abstract

Purpose– This study investigates the comparative effects of work flexibility, work-life balance, and work engagement on job satisfaction among Generation Z employees working in Jakarta. Going beyond descriptive accounts that have dominated the literature, it empirically tests whether structural work arrangements or psychological engagement constitutes the primary driver of this cohort's satisfaction in the Indonesian urban labour market, a question that has long been theorised but seldom examined through rigorous causal quantitative designs. Design/methodology– A quantitative, cross-sectional causal design was applied. Two hundred Generation Z employees working under flexible arrangements across Jakarta were recruited through purposive sampling. Multiple linear regression served as the primary analytical technique, preceded by normality, multicollinearity, and heteroscedasticity checks using IBM SPSS Statistics. Findings– Taken jointly, the three predictors significantly influence job satisfaction. When tested individually, however, only work engagement emerges as a statistically significant predictor, while work flexibility and work-life balance do not exert a significant effect. This pattern contradicts the prevailing assumption that structural flexibility arrangements occupy a central role in Generation Z's workplace satisfaction and positions psychological engagement as the more decisive determinant. Organisations managing this cohort may therefore gain more by prioritising engagement-oriented programmes rather than expanding their flexibility packages.

Abstract

Purpose– This study aims to determine the influence of leadership, job satisfaction, and work environment on employee performance at PT Kirana Permata Muara Enim. Design/methodology– The research design is associative. The independent variables in this study are leadership, job satisfaction, and work environment, while the dependent variable is employee performance. The population in this study was the permanent employees of the factory and office at PT Kirana Permata Muara Enim, totaling 282 people. A sample of 74 employees was selected using the 10% Slovin formula and cluster sampling. Primary data in this study were obtained from questionnaires, while secondary data were obtained from documentation. The data analysis techniques used were multiple linear regression, hypothesis testing (F-test and t-test), and the coefficient of determination. Findings - The results of the F test (simultaneous) indicate a significant influence of leadership, job satisfaction, and work environment on employee performance at PT. Kirana Permata Muara Enim. The results of the t-test (partial) prove that there is a significant influence of leadership on employee performance, there is an influence of job satisfaction on employee performance, and there is an influence of work environment on employee performance at PT. Kirana Permata Muara Enim. The coefficient of determination shows that leadership, job satisfaction, and work environment are able to contribute to increasing employee performance by 60.2%.

Abstract

Purpose– This study aims to examine the effect of intellectual capital, operational efficiency, and managerial ownership on the financial performance of conventional banks in Indonesia that are listed in Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI). Design/methodology– This research employs a quantitative explanatory approach using panel data from conventional banks that are listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the 2022–2024 period. Return on Assets (ROA) serves as a proxy for financial performance, while Value Added Intellectual Coefficient (VAIC) is used for intellectual capital. Operational efficiency is represented by the BOPO ratio, and the percentage of shares held by management is used to calculate managerial ownership. Panel data regression is applied, and the best-suited estimating model is the Random Effect Model. Findings - The results indicate that financial performance is positively and statistically significantly influenced by intellectual capital, suggesting that stronger knowledge-based resources can enhance bank profitability. Operational efficiency shows a negative but insignificant effect, implying that BOPO has not yet become a dominant determinant of profitability in conventional banks. Meanwhile, managerial ownership has a positive and statistically significant effect, indicating that managerial shareholding can encourage managers to improve financial performance. Overall, the findings suggest that the profitability of conventional banks in Indonesia is more strongly supported by intellectual capital and managerial ownership, while operational efficiency has not shown a significant role in improving ROA.
