Abstract

The aging process triggers a decline in neuromuscular function, significantly increasing the risk of falls among the elderly with potentially fatal physical and psychological impacts. This community service activity aims to improve health literacy and mobilization independence for 21 elderly residents at PSTW Gau Mabaji Gowa in September 2025. The implementation method began with functional status screening using the Time Up and Go (TUG) Test, followed by module-based interactive health education and gradual training on the use of mobility aids. The TUG Test results revealed that the majority of respondents (57.15%) fell into the High Fall Risk category due to physical weakness, comorbidities, and nursing home environmental factors. However, interventions through education and therapeutic communication proved effective in increasing the elderly's confidence in using assistive devices and reducing psychological barriers such as fear of falling. This program successfully enhanced the knowledge and practical skills of the elderly in safe mobilization; thus, the synergy between education and environmental modification is crucial to maintaining their quality of life, ensuring they remain active and safe within the facility.

Abstract

Abstract Reproductive health is an essential aspect of public health development, particularly among adolescents and university students who are in the transitional stage toward adulthood. Insufficient knowledge regarding reproductive health may lead to various problems such as risky sexual behavior, sexually transmitted infections, and unintended pregnancy. Therefore, innovative and engaging learning methods are needed to enhance students’ understanding. This Community Service activity aimed to implement a snakes and ladders game as an innovative learning media for reproductive health education among university students. The method consisted of three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The activity was carried out through a pre-test, brief material presentation, group-based educational snakes and ladders game, discussion session, and post-test. The results showed an increase in students’ knowledge after participating in the educational activity using the snakes and ladders game. The average knowledge score increased from 58.7 in the pre-test to 78.7 in the post-test. In addition, students demonstrated active participation and enthusiasm during the learning process. Thus, the snakes and ladders game can serve as an effective, interactive, and enjoyable learning method to improve students’ understanding of reproductive health.

Abstract

Adolescents are vulnerable to psychosocial problems due to academic pressure, developmental changes, and intensive exposure to digital technology. Excessive smartphone use and low levels of physical activity may negatively affect sleep quality, concentration, stress, and psychological well-being. This community service activity was conducted to improve students’ understanding of healthy smartphone use and physical activity as part of school-based mental health promotion. The activity employed an educative-participatory approach through interactive educational sessions, discussion, and health promotion media involving high school students. Educational materials included healthy digital behavior, the impact of sedentary lifestyles, the importance of physical activity, sleep quality, and simple stress management strategies. Students actively participated in the sessions and were able to identify the potential effects of excessive smartphone use and sedentary behavior on mental health. Participants also demonstrated increased awareness regarding balanced technology use and the importance of physical activity in daily life. These findings indicate that school-based education on healthy smartphone use and physical activity may serve as a practical promotive-preventive strategy to support adolescent mental health and improve mental health literacy among students.

Abstract

Abstract Student mental health is a priority issue both globally and nationally, yet the use of counseling services among Indonesian university students remains very low due to social stigma, misconceptions, and low mental health literacy. This community service activity aims to improve students' mental health literacy through structured counseling education using an active learning approach. The activity was conducted with 55 public health students using three integrated methods: interactive lectures, open group discussions, and participatory sticky-notes brainstorming. Evaluation was conducted descriptively and qualitatively through participation observation, content analysis of sticky-notes responses, and participant reflection. The results showed high enthusiasm (active participation rate of over 50%) and identified five main themes of student perceptions: stigma and shame, misconceptions about counseling, lack of procedural knowledge, confidentiality concerns, and expectations for service accessibility. The activity had a positive impact by shifting students' understanding of counseling from an exclusive service for severe disorders to a basic right and need for mental health. It is recommended that higher education institutions institutionalize similar education programs periodically and strengthen the accessibility of campus counseling services.
