Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between stress levels and sleep quality with random blood glucose (RBG) among patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM-2) at RSI Sultan Agung Semarang. A cross-sectional design was applied with 92 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data on stress levels were measured using a standardized questionnaire, while sleep quality was assessed through self-reported indicators. Blood glucose levels were collected based on clinical laboratory results. Statistical analysis showed a significant correlation between stress and RBG (p = 0.011; r = 0.586), indicating that higher stress levels were associated with elevated glucose values. A stronger relationship was identified between sleep quality and RBG (p = 0.0001; r = 0.629), suggesting that poor sleep quality substantially increases the risk of hyperglycemia. These findings highlight the dual influence of psychological and behavioral factors on glycemic regulation. Physiological mechanisms, including hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis activation and reduced insulin sensitivity, may explain the association between stress, sleep, and glucose dysregulation. The results underscore the importance of incorporating psychological assessment, stress management strategies, and sleep hygiene education into diabetes care. An integrated approach may enhance glucose control and contribute to better long-term outcomes for patients with DM-2.

Abstract

Low back pain (LBP) is one of the most common discomforts experienced by pregnant women, particularly in the third trimester. Despite its prevalence, non-pharmacological interventions targeting this specific issue remain underexplored. Hypnobirthing, a method involving relaxation, visualization, and self-hypnosis, has shown promise in reducing labor-related pain and anxiety, but its effectiveness in alleviating LBP during pregnancy is still unclear.  This quasi-experimental study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of hypnobirthing techniques in reducing low back pain among pregnant women.  A quasi-experimental design was used involving pregnant women in their third trimester. Participants were divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention group received a structured hypnobirthing program for four weeks, while the control group received routine antenatal care. Pain intensity was measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) before and after the intervention.  The hypnobirthing intervention group reported a statistically significant reduction in low back pain compared to the control group. Participants also reported improved relaxation and better coping mechanisms related to pregnancy discomfort. Hypnobirthing appears to be an effective complementary intervention for reducing low back pain in pregnant women. These findings support its integration into antenatal care programs and call for further research exploring its mechanisms and long-term benefits.

Abstract

Mental health is a vital aspect of overall well-being, involving physical, psychological, social, and spiritual balance. Schizophrenia, a chronic psychiatric disorder, significantly affects quality of life and social functioning, particularly when accompanied by visual hallucinations. This study aimed to describe psychiatric nursing care for patients with paranoid schizophrenia experiencing visual hallucinations at RSJD Dr. Arif Zainudin, Central Java. A qualitative case study was conducted with two inpatients in the Gatotkaca ward. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, behavioral observations, physical examinations, and medical record reviews, followed by descriptive-comparative analysis. The findings showed that nursing care was delivered systematically, covering assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation. Interventions included health education, hallucination confrontation techniques, adherence to medication, structured daily activities, and family involvement. These approaches effectively reduced hallucination intensity and enhanced coping abilities. Continuous evaluations demonstrated improvements, with patients becoming more aware of their symptoms, applying distraction strategies, and showing better social interactions. This study emphasizes that evidence-based interventions and strong family support are crucial in the recovery process of patients with paranoid schizophrenia.

Abstract

Mental health is a vital aspect of overall well-being, involving physical, psychological, social, and  Adolescents are vulnerable to risky sexual behaviors that may lead to unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. Health education in schools is essential to prevent such problems. This study aimed to analyze the effect of using educational Games Kit media on improving students’ knowledge and attitudes regarding reproductive health and sexuality. A pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was applied involving 98 eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 14 Semarang, selected through purposive sampling. The intervention consisted of two sessions: Games Kit Wordwall for reproductive health education and Games Kit Cards & Puzzle for sexuality education. Data were collected using validated questionnaires and analyzed with the Marginal Homogeneity test (α = 0.05). The results showed a significant improvement (p = 0.000) in both knowledge and attitudes after the intervention. Before the program, many students had only moderate knowledge and neutral attitudes, while after the intervention, most demonstrated good knowledge and positive attitudes. Games Kit as a playful and interactive medium successfully increased student engagement, facilitated the understanding of sensitive topics, and encouraged active participation. These findings suggest that educational games can be an effective strategy for enhancing reproductive health and sexuality education among adolescents.

Abstract

Psychological well-being includes positive social interactions, physical and mental health, and self-acceptance. This study aims to determine the psychological well-being of elderly people who are still working. The research method used a qualitative approach with a case study type. The research subjects consisted of two elderly people aged 60 years and above who were still actively working. Data were collected through observation and open interviews, while the research location was on Jl. Beringin, Ngaliyan, Semarang, Central Java. The results showed that work activities contributed positively to the psychological well-being of the elderly. Both subjects were able to demonstrate self-acceptance, had clear life goals, and were able to adapt to their surroundings. In addition, they were able to evaluate their past experiences to prepare themselves for a better life in their old age. Working not only provides economic benefits, but also supports self-confidence, independence, and healthy social relationships. Thus, working in old age plays an important role in maintaining psychological well-being, both mentally and socially, thereby improving the overall quality of life of the elderly.

Abstract

The National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) is the standard instrument for stroke evaluation, yet its prognostic validity for functional outcomes continues to evolve with the shift from static to dynamic assessment. This systematic review aims to evaluate the prognostic validity of NIHSS (static vs. dynamic) and the influence of lesion location and biological factors on functional outcome prediction accuracy in global and Indonesian literature from 2020–2025. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) design was employed following PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Searches were conducted across five databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Garuda, ISJD) using keywords related to NIHSS and prognosis. Following rigorous selection, 20 articles (10 global, 10 Indonesian) were included for narrative synthesis. Data synthesis demonstrated the superiority of "Dynamic NIHSS" prognostic validity (24-hour score and Delta NIHSS) over admission scores (baseline) in predicting long-term outcomes and quality of life. Significant anatomical bias was identified; the threshold for favorable prognosis in posterior circulation stroke was higher (≤9) compared to anterior circulation (≤4). In Indonesia, NIHSS validity improved when combined with inflammatory biomarkers (NLR) and metabolic profiles. NIHSS validity is multidimensional.

Abstract

Headache is one of the most common neurological complaints in children and adolescents, with a prevalence that increases with age. Clinical manifestations in this population often differ from those in adults, creating challenges in diagnosis and management. This literature review aims to evaluate the classification, clinical characteristics, triggering factors, and impact of headache in the 6–18-year age group based on the most recent scientific evidence. The review was conducted using a narrative approach by searching the PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect databases for studies published within the past ten years, with priority given to the use of the International Classification of Headache Disorders (ICHD-3) criteria. The literature indicates that tension-type headache (TTH) and migraine are the most predominant subtypes. Pediatric-specific characteristics include shorter attack durations (2–72 hours) and predominantly bilateral pain localization. Triggering factors are multifactorial, encompassing academic stress, excessive screen time, sleep disturbances, and hormonal fluctuations in adolescent girls. Headache has a significant impact on school absenteeism and overall quality of life. Recognizing the unique characteristics of headache in children is essential to avoid misdiagnosis. Management approaches should be holistic, incorporating the identification of red flags, lifestyle modifications, and the management of comorbidities to prevent progression to chronic headache into adulthood.

Abstract

Pulmonary fibrosis is a progressive respiratory disease associated with chronic inhalation of respirable dust and bioaerosols, posing a substantial occupational health risk for agricultural workers. Farmers involved in grain storage and handling are frequently exposed to organic dust, fungal spores, and endotoxins that can induce persistent alveolar inflammation and irreversible fibrotic changes. This systematic review examines agromedicine-based prevention strategies focusing on grain storage modification, warehouse ventilation, and the effectiveness of respiratory protective equipment. Evidence indicates that improved storage design and controlled ventilation systems significantly reduce airborne particulate concentrations, thereby lowering cumulative inhalation exposure. Respiratory protective devices, particularly high-efficiency respirators, provide additional individual-level protection, although their real-world effectiveness is strongly influenced by user compliance, proper fitting, and training. The findings highlight that reliance on personal protective equipment alone is insufficient to prevent long-term pulmonary damage. An integrated prevention framework combining engineering controls, environmental management, and occupational health education is essential to reduce the burden of pulmonary fibrosis among farmers and promote sustainable agricultural health practices.

Abstract

The use of herbal plants such as Cymbopogon citratus (lemongrass) is increasingly important in the development of safe and sustainable natural therapies. This plant is widely used in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, as a culinary ingredient and in traditional medicine. This study aims to identify the main bioactive compounds and the use of C. citratus in the health sector. The method used was a data-based literature review from Scopus from 2020 to 2025 with a PICOS approach to synthesize experimental, clinical, and systematic studies. The results show that lemongrass contains major compounds such as citral, geraniol, limonene, apigenin, and other flavonoids that have antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, anti-inflammatory activities, as well as the ability to regulate glucose metabolism, cholesterol, and liver function. Several clinical trials have demonstrated the benefits of lemongrass aromatherapy in reducing anxiety and blood pressure. Overall, these findings reinforce the evidence that C. citratus has potential as a multifunctional therapeutic agent and a base material for phytopharmaceutical development.

Abstract

Stunting is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as height (TB) or length (PB) based on age (U) less than 2 standard deviations (SD) from the median standard growth of children. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of family empowerment on the ability to detect and prevent stunting early. The research method was a quasi-experimental study with two groups consisting of 66 respondents recruited using purposive sampling. The family empowerment instrument used a media module, and early detection ability was measured using the Stunting Prevention Tool questionnaire, while prevention behavior was measured using stunting prevention behavior. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 21 with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann Whitney Test. The results showed that early detection ability and stunting prevention behavior improved in the intervention group with good categories (22.41 to 79.48 and 23.87 to 81.35, respectively). The significance test results showed that family empowerment had a significant effect on early detection ability (p = 0.001) and stunting prevention behavior (p = 0.000). Conclusion: Early detection capabilities and stunting prevention behaviors can be improved through family empowerment that specifically focuses on growth, nutritional status, knowledge, additional supplements, hygiene, and discipline in posyandu activities.
