Abstract

The development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in rural areas plays a strategic role in promoting local economic growth and strengthening community empowerment. This study aims to examine the contribution of MSMEs to community empowerment and to identify local potentials that can be optimized to enhance business sustainability in Cibatu Village, Garut Regency. The research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that MSMEs in Cibatu Village have grown by utilizing local natural resources and cultural heritage as the foundation for developing distinctive products, including traditional handicrafts and local food processing. The presence of MSMEs has contributed to increased household income, job creation, and the strengthening of local socio-economic capacity. However, several challenges remain, such as limited access to capital, low levels of digital literacy, and weak marketing networks. These constraints hinder MSMEs from expanding their market reach and improving competitiveness. Therefore, collaborative support from village governments, educational institutions, and the private sector is essential, particularly in the form of entrepreneurship training, business management assistance, and the adoption of digital technologies for marketing and distribution. The study concludes that strengthening MSMEs based on local potential can serve as a key driver of sustainable rural economic development, provided it is supported by structured, participatory, and continuous empowerment strategies.

Abstract

The community service program conducted in Ketambe Subdistrict, Aceh Tenggara, was a rapid response to the aftermath of a flash flood that caused severe damage to residential areas and disrupted social activities. This initiative engaged university students, lecturers, and local residents to support environmental recovery and strengthen community capacity in disaster preparedness. The activities included house cleaning, removal of mud deposits, minor repairs of public facilities, environmental sanitation, distribution of logistical aid, and basic disaster mitigation education. The results show substantial positive outcomes. A total of 53 damaged houses were cleaned, community participation reached 83%, and accumulated mud levels decreased by an average of 40–70 cm across affected areas. Educational efforts also contributed to a 62% increase in residents’ knowledge regarding disaster mitigation, as measured through simple pre- and post-tests. The community responded positively, recognizing that the program not only offered immediate relief but also promoted long-term awareness of disaster preparedness. Overall, this program demonstrates that coordinated collaboration between universities and local communities can accelerate post-disaster recovery and enhance social and environmental resilience

Abstract

This community service activity aims to provide basic digital marketing education to students of Carnegie Senior High School Medan, with a particular focus on the utilization of social media as a modern and relevant marketing tool in the digital era. The background of this activity is based on the high intensity of social media usage among adolescents, which is not always accompanied by sufficient understanding of its productive and ethical use. Therefore, early education is needed to introduce students to the positive and strategic potential of digital platforms.The implementation methods included the delivery of learning materials in an interactive manner, group discussions, and simple case studies that were closely related to students’ daily experiences. The materials covered fundamental concepts of digital marketing, types of social media platforms used for marketing purposes, digital-based business opportunities, and the importance of ethics and responsibility in digital activities.The results of the activity indicate a significant improvement in students’ understanding of basic digital marketing concepts and a shift in perception regarding social media, from being merely a means of entertainment to a platform with economic value. In addition, students demonstrated increased awareness of ethical behavior in online interactions and transactions. They also showed strong enthusiasm during discussions and were able to identify simple business ideas that could be developed through digital platforms. This activity serves as a strategic initial step in instilling digital entrepreneurship awareness at the secondary education level and contributes to preparing young generations who are adaptive, creative, and responsible in facing the challenges of the digital economy.
