Abstract

This study aims to analyze the optimization of zakat, infaq, and sadaqah (ZIS) management at LazisNu Liprak Kidul, Probolinggo Regency, by examining the implementation of four management functions: planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings indicate that although LazisNu Liprak Kidul has implemented the four management functions, their application remains suboptimal. The planning function lacks measurable targets and does not include a structured evaluation mechanism. The organizing function is constrained by limited competent human resources and the absence of clear job descriptions. Program implementation is still ad-hoc, not data-driven, and not integrated with the institution’s strategic plan. The controlling function focuses mainly on financial reporting, with insufficient attention to sharia compliance and operational efficiency. This study concludes that improving managerial capacity is essential, including developing SMART-based strategic planning, strengthening organizational structure, enhancing human resource skills, integrating data into program implementation, and adopting more comprehensive monitoring mechanisms. These improvements are expected to enhance effectiveness, transparency, and social impact in the management of ZIS at the community level. The study contributes to the advancement of community-based zakat governance.  Keywords : Optimization, Management, ZIS,

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the contribution of inclusive philanthropy implemented by LAZISMU Kota Probolinggo in strengthening socio-economic empowerment within the local community. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the research explores how LAZISMU integrates the principles of Islamic philanthropy—zakat, infak, and sadaqah—with an inclusive strategy that prioritizes accessibility, equity, and community participation. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, documentation, and direct observation of program activities, followed by thematic analysis to identify patterns of impact and key enabling factors. The findings reveal that LAZISMU Kota Probolinggo has played a significant role in developing programs that reach diverse beneficiary groups, including micro-entrepreneurs, vulnerable families, and students from low-income households. Inclusive practices are reflected in participatory needs assessments, transparent fund management, and integration between religious philanthropy and sustainable development goals. The study also identifies several key factors that strengthen inclusive contribution, such as strong institutional governance, strategic partnerships, community engagement, and a clear orientation toward empowerment rather than charity. Overall, the research concludes that LAZISMU’s inclusive philanthropic model effectively enhances social welfare and promotes economic resilience in Probolinggo. This study contributes to the broader discourse on Islamic social finance by demonstrating how inclusive philanthropy can be operationalized at the local institutional level to achieve impactful and sustainable outcomes. Keywords: LAZISMU, zakat, infaq, sadaqah, fundraising strategy, Sharia-based management, Islamic philanthropy This study aims to analyze the sources of funding managed by the Lembaga Amil Zakat Infaq dan Shodaqah Muhammadiyah (LAZISMU) of Probolinggo City and to examine its fundraising strategies and management mechanisms from the perspective of sustainability and compliance with Islamic principles. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using data collection techniques such as interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that LAZISMU’s sources of funds include zakat, infaq, sadaqah, grants, waqf, corporate social responsibility (CSR), as well as individual and institutional donations. Fund management is carried out in a structured manner through planning, implementation, and evaluation, supported by the Sharia Supervisory Board and the use of digital technology to ensure transparency and accountability. The fundraising strategies involve active donation collection, strategic partnerships, and the optimization of social media platforms. LAZISMU also implements responsive social programs, such as free ambulance services and financial aid for the underprivileged, to enhance public participation and donor trust. Despite challenges such as low zakat literacy and limited human resources, LAZISMU has maintained public trust through professional and Sharia-compliant management. This research is expected to contribute academically to the strengthening of Islamic philanthropic governance and zakat-based community empowerment. Abstract

Global economic developments have shifted consumption patterns toward short-term gratification, often neglecting environmental sustainability. This study aims to examine the relevance of classical economic thought—specifically that of Jeremy Bentham and Thomas Robert Malthus—regarding sustainable consumption from the perspective of university students. Using a qualitative library research approach, supported by questionnaires and limited interviews, the findings reveal that most students understand Bentham’s utilitarian principle of maximizing collective happiness and Malthus’ theory of limited natural resources. However, real-life application remains limited, with practical considerations such as affordability and convenience taking precedence. Students tend to adopt a hybrid perspective that combines ethical values with ecological awareness. This study highlights the importance of integrating classical theories with modern sustainability challenges to foster more conscious consumption behavior, as well as the strategic role of higher education in promoting behavioral change among the younger generation. Abstract

This study aims to examine the application of Islamic economic principles in the mineral water production process. There are three main pillars that are the focus of this study, namely tauhid (belief in the oneness of Allah), maslahah (public interest), and justice. Amidst the growing awareness of the importance of ethical and sustainable business practices, the sharia-based production model offers a relevant framework that is not only oriented towards material profit, but also towards the benefit of all parties. The primary objective of this research is to identify the extent to which these principles are integrated throughout the entire mineral water production chain, from the selection of water sources that must be maintained for sustainability, production processes that prioritize quality and cleanliness, to product distribution that ensures fair access for consumers. Furthermore, this study also aims to analyze how the application of these principles can add value to companies, not only in terms of reputation and consumer trust but also in creating positive social and environmental impacts. The analysis results indicate that the integration of Islamic economic principles in mineral water production has significant potential to form a holistic and sustainable business model. This implementation can serve as a guide for other industries to adopt more ethical and socially responsible business practices, in line with Islamic values.

Abstract

This study critically analyzes the commercialization of education within Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia through the framework of maqāṣid al-sharīʻah. The scope of the study covers the forms, driving factors, and impacts of commercialization on access, educational quality, and the normative orientation of Islamic education. Employing a qualitative literature-based approach enriched with phenomenological analysis, the research draws upon academic publications, government reports, and relevant empirical findings. The results show that commercialization manifests through rising tuition fees, competitive educational marketing, and the commodification of curricula and additional services. These practices contribute to widening disparities in access, deepening quality gaps between institutions, and shifting the orientation of Islamic education from moral and spiritual formation toward market-driven objectives. Through maqāṣid al-syarīʻah analysis particularly the principles of preserving intellect (ḥifẓ al-‘aql), religion (ḥifẓ al-dīn), human dignity (ḥifẓ al-nafs), and wealth (ḥifẓ al-māl) this study finds that several commercialization practices contradict Islamic ethical principles and risk undermining the public character of education. The study concludes that Islamic education governance must be reformulated to balance financial sustainability with justice, inclusivity, and the preservation of core Islamic educational values.

Abstract

This study examines the role of money within the framework of Islamic economics and analyzes how Sharia principles influence its utilization in real economic activities. Using a qualitative literature-based approach supported by scholarly books, journal articles, and institutional documents, the research also incorporates comparative case studies from Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia. The findings reveal that Islamic economics views money not merely as a medium of exchange but as an instrument that carries social responsibility and ethical obligations. The application of Sharia principles such as the prohibition of riba, the promotion of risk-sharing, and the encouragement of asset-backed transactions demonstrates the potential to enhance sustainable economic growth, strengthen financial stability, and promote social justice. Although the three countries share common foundational values regarding the function of money in Islamic economic practice, variations in regulatory frameworks and economic priorities lead to different macroeconomic impacts. Nevertheless, all three cases converge on a similar objective: fostering equitable, ethical, and sustainable economic welfare in line with their respective socioeconomic contexts. Abstract

The development of digital technology has given rise to e-commerce as a new form of muamalah activity that is increasingly being used by society, including Muslims. The shift in transaction patterns from conventional to digital has given rise to various legal issues that require serious study from an Islamic legal perspective. This article aims to analyze the phenomenon of e-commerce from an Islamic perspective by examining the legal basis, reasons for permissibility, and the limitations of sharia that regulate it. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a literature study approach, through an analysis of classical and contemporary fiqh literature, books of schools of thought, fatwas of scholars, and academic sources relevant to digital buying and selling practices. The results of the study indicate that e-commerce is essentially permissible in Islam as long as it meets the pillars and requirements for a valid sale and purchase, such as clarity of the object, price, contract, and the willingness of the seller and buyer. Differences in views between schools of thought regarding the technicalities of the contract and the form of the transaction do not change the basic principles of the validity of muamalah as long as it does not contain elements of gharar, usury, and fraud. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of digital muamalah fiqh literacy for Muslims to be able to carry out e-commerce transactions legally, ethically, and responsibly in accordance with sharia values in the digital era.

Abstract

This article discusses the potential of cash waqf in economic development and cash waqf from an Islamic economic perspective. This research is a qualitative study using a literature study approach, and data is obtained from literature that serves as a reference for the researcher. Society certainly desires a prosperous life, meaning a life of sufficiency, such as sufficient clothing, food, shelter, health, and education. The welfare of the people of a region or country can be pursued through economic development. Economic development can increase per capita income, because economic development is closely related to poverty. Material needs in achieving community welfare can be met through Islamic philanthropy (zakat, waqf, and infaq). The waqf sector in Indonesia has experienced extraordinary growth, and if waqf is managed and empowered productively and professionally by the government and society, it can contribute to the economic development of the community. The potential of waqf is enormous for economic growth because waqf, as a fiscal instrument other than zakat, can be an alternative in addressing social problems such as social inequality and poverty. This research is expected to provide broader knowledge and insight for individual institutions regarding the importance of understanding and the potential of cash waqf in the economic development of the community and can be a contribution of thought for readers and additional references for further researchers.
