Abstract

The transition of school leadership requires a performance report that documents achievements, challenges, and best practices during the principal’s tenure as a form of accountability and as a foundation for future school development planning. This community service activity aimed to assist the preparation of the performance report of the principal of SMK Bustanul Falah for the 2022–2026 term, identify the school’s achievements and challenges, and formulate strategic recommendations for improving educational quality. The method employed was participatory mentoring with a reflective-evaluative approach, consisting of several stages: needs analysis, data collection and verification, report drafting assistance, joint review and reflection, and the formulation of school development recommendations. The results indicate that the mentoring process helped the school to inventory, verify, and organize various supporting documents that were previously scattered across different units, thereby enabling the performance report to be compiled in a more systematic, comprehensive, and data-driven manner. In addition, the activity produced an identification of achievements, challenges, and best practices during the principal’s leadership, which served as the basis for strategic recommendations. These recommendations include strengthening educational leadership, improving teaching quality, developing human resources, enhancing partnerships, and refining school governance. Program sustainability was achieved through the formulation of a school development roadmap, which can serve as a reference for program planning and decision-making in subsequent leadership periods.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools hold strategic potential as educational institutions, centers for human resource development, and agents of community empowerment. Nevertheless, the economic potential of pesantren has often not been optimally utilized to strengthen the economic independence of the institution and its surrounding communities. This community service program aims to enhance the understanding and skills of pesantren administrators in developing economic empowerment initiatives based on local wisdom. The program was implemented through workshops and mentoring activities for the management of Yayasan Bustanul Falah and its affiliated foundations in Banyuwangi. The methods included preparation, workshop implementation, dissemination of results, and program evaluation. The workshop was attended by 100 participants representing various educational units within the foundation. The results indicate increased awareness and a shift in stakeholders’ perspectives regarding the importance of pesantren economic development through the management of business units such as cooperatives and educational canteens. Furthermore, the program fostered information exchange and collaboration among institutions in advancing pesantren-based economic initiatives. This mentoring program has had a positive impact in strengthening the institutional capacity of pesantren as centers of community empowerment and in promoting the economic independence of pesantren-based educational institutions.

Abstract

Bullying behavior is one of the problems that can still be found in the school environment and may affect students’ social, emotional, and character development. A lack of understanding regarding the forms and impacts of bullying causes some students to perceive behaviors such as mocking, exclusion, and verbal or physical aggression as ordinary actions. This community service activity aimed to improve students’ understanding and awareness of the dangers of bullying and to strengthen positive character through an anti-bullying socialization program at SD Islam An-Nur Purwoasri. The implementation method used a community education approach through several stages, including material preparation, coordination with the school, delivery of educational materials, demonstrations, role-play simulations, discussions, and evaluations. The activity was conducted on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, involving fourth, fifth, and sixth-grade students. The results showed an improvement in students’ understanding of the definition, forms, impacts, and prevention strategies related to bullying. Students also demonstrated positive behavioral changes, such as increased awareness of respecting friends, avoiding mocking behaviors, and having the courage to report bullying incidents to appropriate parties. This anti-bullying socialization activity contributed positively to strengthening students’ character and supporting the creation of a safe, comfortable, and child-friendly school environment.

Abstract

This article examines the implementation of the Ngopi Bareng (Casual Coffee Gathering) program as a collaborative medium between the Village Government and the local Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) leadership in supporting community development in Kampung NU, Banyuwangi. Designed as an informal dialogue forum, Ngopi Bareng provides an egalitarian space where village officials, NU leaders, and community members engage in open discussion. Within this relaxed setting, participants address various social, cultural, religious, and public service issues that shape everyday life in the village. The community engagement approach used in this program is participatory in nature, involving regular meetings, focused group discussions, and experience-sharing sessions that emphasize deliberation (musyawarah), collective action (gotong royong), and a human-centered orientation. The results of this engagement indicate that Ngopi Bareng successfully increases public participation in village programs, strengthens social networks between the village administration and religious communities, and stimulates the emergence of innovative local initiatives aligned with community needs. Additionally, the activity reinforces local wisdom and NU traditions, particularly in cultivating a culture of dialogue, tolerance (tasamuh), and social responsibility. Program sustainability is maintained through the establishment of routine forums and the expansion of collaborative networks, ensuring that Ngopi Bareng evolves beyond a one-time activity into a sustainable partnership model that can be replicated in other villages. The findings affirm that community-based dialogue platforms grounded in religious and cultural values are highly effective in fostering social harmony, enhancing local capacity, and promoting inclusive and participatory village development innovations.

Abstract

Character education is an important component of education because students need not only academic competence but also the ability to demonstrate positive values in their daily lives. This community service program addressed the need to strengthen students’ understanding and awareness of character values at MTsN 5 Cluring Banyuwangi. The program involved 25 students representing grades VII and VIII and the Student Intra-School Organization (OSIM). The intervention was implemented through a character education seminar using a contextual mentoring approach that connected character values with situations encountered by students in their daily lives. The activities consisted of an initial assessment (pretest), interactive seminar, contextual case discussion, question-and-answer session, reflection, and final assessment (posttest). The results showed an increase in the students’ mean scores from 67.80 in the pretest to 84.20 in the posttest, with a 16.40-point increase and a normalized gain of 0.509, categorized as moderate. Observations also indicated positive student enthusiasm and active participation during the activity. These findings indicate that contextual mentoring can serve as an effective initial strategy for strengthening students’ understanding and awareness of character values. Further programs should emphasize continuous habituation, exemplary behavior, and school-based character development to achieve sustainable behavioral change.

Abstract

Juvenile delinquency is one of the issues that requires attention because it can affect the character development and social life of students. One form of behavior that needs to be prevented in educational environments is bullying, which can have an impact on students’ social relationships and psychological well-being. This activity aimed to improve adolescents’ understanding and awareness of the importance of character development as an effort to prevent juvenile delinquency, particularly bullying behavior. The activity was conducted on July 25, 2026, at MTs Tahfidzul Qur’an in Sembulung Village, Cluring District, Banyuwangi Regency, involving 14 participants. The implementation method used a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, which positioned participants as active contributors in identifying problems, implementing activities, and conducting reflection. The activities included material delivery by a Guidance and Counseling (BK) teacher and university students, interactive discussions, and an anti-bullying declaration. At the final stage, participants wrote their anti-bullying commitments on provided paper and attached them to a sheet of buffalo paper as a form of collective commitment to creating a safe and respectful school environment. The results showed that participants actively participated in the activities and gained an understanding of the forms, impacts, and prevention of bullying through character development. The declaration activity also provided a form of direct participation for students in building a commitment to positive behavior. Therefore, character development through a participatory approach can serve as a preventive effort to increase adolescents’ awareness and encourage the creation of an educational environment free from bullying.
