Abstract

Approaches in legal education that emphasize the justice value of Pancasila are increasingly relevant in rising environmental awareness among students. A learning model not only offers theoretical insights into environmental protection but also encourages the practical application of justice value in the context of law enforcement. This study seeks to develop a law enforcement learning model based on Pancasila justice value to increase environmental awareness at Yogyakarta State University, Indonesia. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, integrating qualitative and quantitative methods within a research and development (R&D) design. The data were collected using questionnaires, observations, and document analysis. The population consisted of students who took civic education courses at Yogyakarta State University in 2023. A sample was selected using proportionate stratified random sampling, dividing the university's faculties into groups based on cultural similarities, including the Faculty of Social, Legal and Political Sciences; Faculty of Economics and Business; Faculty of Education and Psychology; and Faculty of Languages, Arts and Culture. The results revealed three main findings. First, civic education at Yogyakarta State University required further development in terms of materials, methods, media, resources, and evaluation. Second, developing a law enforcement learning model based on the justice value of Pancasila to increase environmental awareness involved initial, core, and closing activities. These activities included identifying environmental problems, introducing environmental law materials, selecting problems for class research, gathering and documenting information, developing class portfolios, presenting portfolios, and reflecting on the learning experience. Third, the model demonstrated effectiveness and significantly increased student's environmental awareness at Yogyakarta State University, effectively increasing their understanding of theory and practice.

Abstract

The current study examined the effects of private school teachers' views about school climate on their job security perceptions. The study was designed using the correlational model, which is one of the quantitative research methods. The study's sample group consists of 294 teachers working in private secondary schools located in the í‡ankaya district of Ankara. Data were collected through the "Job Security Perception Scale" and the "Organizational Climate Scale" and analyzed by using descriptive statistics, the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient model, and multivariate linear regression analysis technique. The results obtained from the research indicate that private school teachers' job security perceptions are slightly below the moderate level, while their views on the dimensions of school climate are generally at the moderate level. There are statistically significant relationships between private school teachers' job security perceptions and their views on the school climate. According to the findings concerning the final sub-question of the research, the views of private school teachers on the school climate predict approximately 55% (R2=0.545) of their job security perceptions. When the dimensions of the school climate are examined separately, it is observed that a significant portion of this effect is attributed to supportive principal behavior, which positively influences job security perceptions. Based on the results obtained from the research, it is recommended that measures be taken to inspect the working conditions of private school teachers and enhance the administrative support provided to them.

Abstract

The present study aims to unpack the university English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers' practices and attitudes towards intercultural approach (ICA) and identify the prospective EFL teachers' level of preparedness to implement ICA. For this purpose, 36 EFL teachers and 45 master students doing a program on TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) were chosen to collect data through a survey and project analysis. The research findings indicate that despite recognising the intercultural paradigm in teaching EFL, embedded in all Kazakhstani regulations and the increasing tendency to use authentic textbooks; there is a lack of sound preparedness to implement ICA for both pre-service and in-service EFL teachers. Furthermore, the results suggest that two-thirds (66.6%) of master students could not identify all intercultural attributes in the coursebook. In-service teachers' agreement level on the importance of ICA is high; however, they lack practical skills for nuanced integration of ICA in EFL classrooms. This article can serve as a discussion platform to tackle challenges associated with ICA implementation in higher education not only in Kazakhstan but in the international context, as this issue is topical for many countries in the world where English is taught as a foreign language.

Abstract

This academic work focuses on creating and assessing a Virtual Reality (VR) learning tool designed for civil engineering education. The tool aims to help students understand complex construction phenomena better by providing laboratory and real-world simulation-based construction scenarios. With the aid of immersive learning offered by VR, the gap between theoretical and practical knowledge is narrowed, and issues such as limited site access, safety requirements, and logistical challenges are mitigated. The study employs a systematic approach to development, including needs identification, tool creation, and evaluation after the tool is developed. The use of paired t-tests enables quantitative analysis of the data. It reveals improved learning outcomes among students utilizing the developed VR tool compared to traditional methods. In addition, students with VR perception reported high ease of use and satisfaction scores. The results emphasize how VR technology can cultivate critical 21st-century skills like problem-solving, collaboration, creativity, and constructive technological engagement. VR can deliver students with safe, inexpensive, and easy-to-scale solutions that offer a wider range of construction learning that was impossible to provide in the past. This study aids a growing understanding of innovations in teaching and learning technology in civil engineering education, especially the importance of VR in preparing them for Industry 4.0. More research should investigate the sustainability of the impacts of the VR environment on learning among engineers from different specialities.

Abstract

The complexity of explaining and describing educational phenomena poses a significant challenge for educators, who must convey information effectively through pedagogical mediation and structured methodologies. This study investigates the impact of graphic organizers as a methodological strategy to enhance meaningful learning in Educational Management. Employing a quantitative quasi-experimental design, the research utilized observation and surveys as data collection techniques, with a checklist and the ACRA Scale on Learning Strategies as instruments. The study involved 57 students, divided into an experimental group (n = 29) and a control group (n = 28), who underwent pre-test and post-test evaluations. Findings indicate a statistically significant difference between the two groups, supporting the alternative hypothesis. The experimental group exhibited substantial improvements across conceptual, procedural, and attitudinal learning dimensions, reinforcing the effectiveness of graphic organizers in fostering structured knowledge acquisition and cognitive development. The post-test results demonstrated higher retention rates and deeper comprehension among students who utilized graphic organizers. The study concludes that graphic organizers enhance meaningful learning by providing visual structures that facilitate information processing and conceptual connections. These findings underscore the importance of integrating structured pedagogical tools in higher education to stimulate critical thinking, improve content retention, and promote autonomous learning. Future research should explore the long-term effects of graphic organizers across diverse academic disciplines to validate their broader applicability in educational settings.

Abstract

This study investigated the academic experiences of visually impaired students at Hail University, addressing a critical gap in understanding accessibility challenges in Saudi higher education. The research aimed to identify barriers in three key areas: learning material accessibility, exam accommodation effectiveness, and faculty awareness of student needs. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with five visually impaired students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and validated using member checking and peer debriefing techniques. Thematic analysis revealed several significant barriers: (1) inconsistent accessibility of digital course materials, with 80% of students reporting difficulties with PDF documents and presentation slides; (2) limitations in exam accommodations, particularly insufficient time allowances and inadequate screen reader compatibility; and (3) varying levels of faculty awareness, with only 20% of instructors proactively addressing accessibility needs. The study's novelty lies in its comprehensive examination of the intersection between digital accessibility, academic accommodations, and faculty preparedness in a Middle Eastern university context, providing insights previously unexplored in Saudi Arabian higher education. The findings contribute to developing evidence-based recommendations for improving institutional support systems and faculty training programs, ultimately enhancing educational experiences for visually impaired students in similar institutional contexts.

Abstract

Mastering error-free writing is challenging, especially for Arab EFL learners. They often manifest these errors in many ways, such as grammar and mechanics. A step toward improving them is to explore the typical difficulties they encounter in writing. This study aimed to examine Saudi EFL undergraduates' writing difficulties using a sequential explanatory research design (a mixed-method approach). Paragraphs written by forty-one students were analyzed, and errors were calculated and categorized in the first phase. Then, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 23 participants to probe further insights on the challenges they face and types of errors in writing, reasons, and suggestions for improvements. The quantitative data was analyzed using Atlas. ti 9. Results revealed that the most common errors from the mixed method were punctuation, capitalization, and grammar. However, the views on spelling errors differed from the participants' practices. They credited teaching, textbooks, and disinterestedness as reasons for their poor proficiency. Moreover, they believed more writing practice and the development of reading habits could enhance their writing skills. These findings provide valuable insights for English language educators and learners, offering guidance on contextualized instruction and practical implications for teaching, learning, material development, and curriculum design.

Abstract

This research article presents results of an educational experiment that was based on the application of an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) course tailored for university students of engineering majors using professionally oriented situational tasks. The distinguishing feature of the course is its interdisciplinary nature: it is not limited to one particular field of engineering – it comprises various engineering topics suitable for different technical specialties. The study aimed at: first, identifying the commonly encountered workplace situations in which engineers from various subindustries need to apply English, then "’ modelling situational tasks integrated in a multi-disciplinary engineering ESP course, finally – at testing the pedagogical effectiveness of the designed model. The experiment was carried out at one of the best technical universities in Kazakhstan – Satbayev University. It encompassed 60 first-year bachelor students majoring in different engineering specialties, including 30 students from experiential groups. A mixed-methods approach based on both qualitative and quantitative methods was exploited: review and investigation of literature, needs analysis questionnaire among alumni of technical universities, evaluation and adaptation of existing ESP coursebooks, didactic modelling, pedagogical experiment, comparative analysis and mathematical statistics.  The findings prove superior efficiency of the suggested interdisciplinary Engineering ESP course over a traditional Professional English course.
