Abstract

Nowadays, the development of technology is advancing rapidly, including in the field of communication. Social interaction has shifted to the digital sphere, with TikTok being one of the most popular social media platforms that allow users to interact without geographical restrictions. This development has triggered the emergence of neologisms and new linguistic features in social media interactions. Therefore, this study aims to explore the most common forms of neologism and linguistic forms that have emerged on the TikTok platforms and illuminate the impact of these phenomena on social discourse. It also highlights the role of social media as both a platform for expression and a driving force behind linguistic change. A qualitative approach with an observation method was applied in this research to deeply explore these issues. The findings reveal that the most common type of neologism is lexicographic, with a percentage of occurrence at 50%, while the use of emojis represents the most dominant new linguistic form on TikTok. These phenomena have impacted linguistic changes in social discourse, with the potential for new words to be added to modern dictionaries. Consequently, vocabulary continues to expand in line with the advancement of technology. In addition, this difference in languagechanges may lead to communication gaps among generations.

Abstract

This research examines the strategic role of inclusive language in promoting Lon Malang Beach as an ecotourism destination in Sampang Regency, East Java. Despite its high ecotourism potential in terms of natural beauty and rich local culture, this one of northern beach in Madura island remains relatively unknown, among Generation Z in particular. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, this research combines field observations, in-depth interviews with stakeholders, and a survey of 150 university students to analyze the effectiveness of inclusive language in enhancing the destination's appeal and visibility. The findings reveal that 69.3% of respondents were unaware of Lon Malang Beach, primarily due to limited digital promotional strategies. Inclusive language—as defined in this study through the use of shared linguistic codes and accommodative communication strategies—has proven to play a significant role in reducing stereotypes against the Madurese community, reinforcing local cultural narratives, and encouraging tourist engagement across diverse backgrounds. Moreover, inclusive language supports equitable marketing practices by ensuring information accessibility for vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities. This research underlines that inclusive communication approaches can build a positive and relational image of the destination through personalized and engaging language use. The findings highlight the urgency of inclusive language management within the framework of sustainable rural tourism development, addressing not only economic dimensions, but also social and cultural cohesion.

Abstract

This study explores the ecological values embedded in the awig-awig of Desa Adat Denpasar by combining insights from ecolinguistics, Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), and Arne Naess’s ecosophy. The analysis focuses on how the transitivity system encodes the community’s ecological worldview through choices of process types, participant roles, and circumstantial elements. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, several clauses from the awig-awig are examined to reveal how linguistic patterns represent obligations related to environmental care. The findings show that material processes foreground concrete ecological duties, such as maintaining vegetation and performing ritual actions in agricultural or sacred spaces. Behavioral processes highlight embodied ethical practices that frame ritual discipline as part of ecological harmony, while existential processes affirm the presence of ecological spaces like the telajakan as entities that must be preserved. These linguistic patterns indicate that the awig-awig operates not only as a regulatory text but as a cultural medium through which ecological ethics are shaped and transmitted. The study concludes that the integration of ecolinguistics, SFL, and ecosophy offers a productive framework for understanding how customary discourse sustains ecological awareness and relational ethics within Balinese communities.

Abstract

This study conducts a corpus-based analysis of MSME catalogs to illustrate how the cognitive shortcuts of persuasion techniques can effectively influence the target customer in food and beverage promotion, particularly from a psychological perspective. This qualitative descriptive study investigates a specialized corpus of MSME food and beverage promotions derived from the product catalogs at BRI EXPO (RT) 2025 from 6 categories of the cognitive shortcuts: authority, social proof, consistency, reciprocity, scarcity, and linking to increase social influence by Cialdini’s Principles of Persuasion. The data consists of product descriptions within the food and beverage category, resulting in 6814 tokens. The data is categorized using concordance software Sketch Engine. The data analysis used domain, taxonomic, componential, and cultural theme analysis. The final findings of this research reveal that MSME food and beverage ads predominantly use the cognitive shortcuts of commitment, reciprocity, scarcity, and social proof to persuade consumers linguistically. These shortcuts are often represented through verbs and adjectives emphasizing quality, trust, exclusivity, and community validation. Each product category applies these shortcuts differently, reflecting both market positioning and cultural values. While authority and liking are less frequently used, their inclusion could enhance emotional and credibility-based appeal. It is clear that this study contributes to the marketing corpus, particularly on promotion catalogs of MSMEs.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how interpersonal meaning in Arabic command speech is realized in the film Farha (2021) and how it is transferred into Indonesian subtitles. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, the research draws on Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) and directive speech act theory to analyze 117 command clauses taken from the film and its official subtitles. Each clause was examined through the interpersonal categories of mood, obligation, polarity, person, and tenor to assess the strength and equivalence of illocutionary force across languages. The findings indicate a predominant use of imperative mood, high obligation, positive polarity, and second-person forms, reflecting direct and hierarchical communication typical of conflict settings. Overall, the Indonesian subtitles maintain the core interpersonal force of the Arabic source text, though some shifts occur in obligation intensity, command merging, and lexical choices. This study contributes a systematic model for evaluating interpersonal equivalence in Arabic–Indonesian audiovisual translation.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to see how the Semantic Feature Analysis (SFA) approach improved the naming skills of people with aphasia in Surakarta. Aphasia's major lexico-semantic symptom is anomia, or trouble finding words, which greatly hinders communication and quality of life. This study was designed to improve evidence-based treatment for this group. The research used a quantitative pre-experimental design with a single group pre-test and post-test. The sample consisted of ten people with aphasia, mostly Broca's type (80%), who were chosen by purposive sampling in Surakarta. The intervention, Semantic Feature Analysis, was delivered over 12 sessions. Naming ability was assessed using the TADIR instrument, and results were analyzed using a Paired T-Test. The study found a significant change in naming scores before and after the SFA intervention, with a p-value of 0.000 (≤ 0.05). This resulted in the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0), indicating that the SFA intervention is beneficial.

Abstract

This study investigates regulatory signage at Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah Denpasar hospital as a multimodal Linguistic Landscape (LL) that communicates institutional identity, authority, and behavioural norms in public space. LL research in Indonesia has largely focused on tourism, transportation hubs, and cultural sites, hospital environments remain underexplored despite their semiotic richness and governance function. The research aims to describe and interpret the multimodal composition of regulatory signs related to waste disposal. It also explains their communicative functions using LL, multimodality, and speech act theory. The study employs a qualitative approach based on documentation and descriptive analysis. Data were collected through field photography of signage within the hospital environment. The those were analysed using multimodal frameworks and pragmatic models. The analysis reveals three semiotic components—image, colour, and text—working cohesively to construct meaning. Institutional logo elements encode ideological values, colour palettes convey psychological reassurance and authority, while verbal constructions alternate between expressive acts (“thank you for disposing of waste properly”) and directive acts (“maintain cleanliness”). Findings indicate that signage serves as multimodal governance rather than mere instruction. Signs strategically balance visual authority and linguistic politeness to shape public behaviour. It supports theoretical claims that LL functions as discourse in place. The study concludes that hospital signage operates as a dynamic communicative system, integrating symbolic identity, persuasive emotion, and directive force to regulate conduct. These insights extend LL scholarship to healthcare contexts and demonstrate the relevance of speech act analysis in multimodal public communication
