Abstract

The focus of this observation is to describe the use of interactive puzzle boards in helping fourth-grade students understand the parts of plants and their functions. Descriptive qualitative observation methods were used to directly observe how this media influenced learning activities, student responses, and conceptual understanding during the learning process. Before the media was used, most students were unable to correctly name plant parts and showed little engagement during learning activities. After the interactive puzzle was implemented, students were more active in assembling puzzle pieces, discussing, and connecting images with the concepts being studied. The questionnaire results showed an increase in student interest and enjoyment during the learning process. In addition, learning outcomes improved significantly, with students' scores, which were previously in the range of 40-80, changing to 80-100 after the use of the media. These findings indicate that interactive puzzles are able to create real and more interesting learning experiences that foster creativity, interest, and understanding of the material among students.

Abstract

Improving numeracy skills is an important aspect of mathematics learning in elementary schools. Numeracy encompasses not only arithmetic skills, but also the ability to understand, interpret, and utilize data in visual form. This article discusses the role of pictograms and bar charts as effective visual representation media to help students understand data presentation concepts. The research method used was a literature study reviewing various sources related to literacy, numeracy, and the application of pictograms and bar charts in learning. The results of the study show that the use of these two media can improve data analysis, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in elementary school students. Pictograms help students understand data concepts concretely, while bar charts strengthen abstract and systematic thinking skills. Previous studies also show that the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model and PANDITA media (Pictogram and Bar Chart Board) significantly improves student learning outcomes. Thus, the use of contextual and interactive visual representations can be an effective strategy to strengthen numeracy from the elementary education level.

Abstract

This study explores the various challenges encountered by teachers when teaching three-dimensional geometry to fifth-grade elementary students and outlines alternative solutions based on recent scholarly findings. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, this study reviews theoretical perspectives and relevant documents to gain a comprehensive understanding of the issues. The results indicate that difficulties in teaching solid geometry arise from several interconnected factors, including students’ abilities, teachers’ preparedness, curriculum demands, availability of learning tools, and overall learning conditions. Limited spatial visualization skills, the scarcity of manipulatives, and the lack of diverse instructional approaches frequently hinder learning outcomes. Additionally, the demanding curriculum and inadequate learning environments further reduce instructional effectiveness. Recent research suggests that concrete manipulatives, real-world contextual learning, and technological tools such as GeoGebra 3D and Augmented Reality can significantly support students’ understanding. Strengthening teachers’ pedagogical skills through professional development is also highlighted as a crucial step. Implementing these strategies is expected to enhance students’ comprehension of solid geometry in a more meaningful and engaging manner.

Abstract

Understanding mathematical sentences is a crucial factor in students’ success in learning whole number addition in elementary school. However, many students still struggle to interpret mathematical language, especially in word problems. These difficulties include interpreting key terms, identifying essential information, and translating verbal statements into mathematical models. Internal factors such as low motivation, math anxiety, and limited language skills, along with external factors like monotonous teaching methods, further contribute to these challenges. To address this, teachers need to implement effective strategies such as the use of concrete media, contextual approaches, guided reading of problems, and remedial programs. Overall, teachers play an essential role in designing interactive and meaningful learning to improve students’ numeracy literacy.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low learning enthusiasm of fifth-grade students at MI Darul Ulum in Science and Social Studies (IPAS), which only reached 20%. This passive condition hindered students' affective development and cognitive achievement. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of the "Star Achievement" token economy strategy as a stimulant for students' affective domain development based on Krathwohl & Bloom's Taxonomy. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data triangulation techniques through interviews, questionnaires, and documentation of 20 respondents. The results showed that this strategy was highly effective at the Receiving (90%), Responding (87%), and Valuing (92%) levels. Stars functioned as positive emotional conditioners that increased pride and material retention. However, at the Organization (70%) and Characterization (45%) levels, challenges were found in independent value internalization because students still tended to depend on extrinsic rewards. The conclusion shows that the "Star Achievement" strategy successfully transformed students' mental energy from passive to active and competitive, although the permanent character-building stage requires continuous assistance.

Abstract

Work uniforms are a form of visual text that is closely related to the everyday experiences of elementary school students and has the potential to be utilized as contextual learning media. This study aims to analyze Indomaret employee uniforms as a system of visual signs and to examine their potential as visual literacy media in Indonesian language learning at the elementary school level. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach grounded in Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic theory, which includes icons, indexes, and symbols. The analysis focuses on the visual elements of the uniform, such as color, logos, clothing design, and accessories, as well as their relationship to the construction of meanings that can be understood by elementary school students. The findings indicate that Indomaret employee uniforms contain visual signs that are easily recognizable and relevant for use as instructional materials, particularly in descriptive text learning and in strengthening students’ ability to interpret symbolic meanings. Utilizing uniforms as contextual learning media can support the development of students’ visual literacy, critical thinking skills, and understanding of signs in everyday life. This study provides practical implications for elementary school teachers in designing Indonesian language instruction that is more meaningful, contextual, and oriented toward students’ real-life experiences.
