Abstract

Ecobricking is an innovative approach to waste management that involves processing inorganic waste, particularly plastics, into durable ecobrick products. This practice has been successfully implemented in Desa Teluk Sasah, Seri Kuala Lobam District, Bintan Regency, by the KKN 40 Desa Teluk Sasah team from Maritim Raja Ali Haji University in 2025. Plastic waste continues to dominate the waste stream in coastal areas and surrounding regions of Desa Teluk Sasah, making the ecobrick initiative highly relevant and impactful. Currently, there are three active Waste Banks operating in the village, which provided group 40 with significant support from the village government to develop and manage an inclusive and effective ecobrick program. The realization of the University’s flagship program “Maritime Resources” brought together various stakeholders, including the village government, local residents, and pioneering Waste Banks, to ensure the sustainability of this initiative. Through collaborative efforts, the ecobrick program has run smoothly, producing tangible benefits such as reducing plastic pollution, fostering creativity among community members, and promoting environmental awareness. In addition to waste management, the program integrates land use practices by planting chili and kale plants in ecobrick-based gardens to improve local food security and enhance household income. This paper highlights the importance of ecobricking as an innovative and sustainable method to manage inorganic waste and support the development of green, productive spaces for the benefit of the entire community.

Abstract

The “Haceri Management” community service program was initiated based on the problems faced by residents, namely cultivation that is still managed individually, limited technical skills in managing feed, and weak capital management and group organization. This activity aims to improve the capabilities of the Haceri community, both technically, socially, and institutionally, so that they can manage their farming businesses more effectively, flexibly, and sustainably. The method used is Participatory Action Research (PAR), in which the community is directly involved as the main actors in every stage, from planning and implementation to evaluation. The series of activities includes technical training in aquaculture, assistance in capital management, facilitation of group discussions, and local leadership development. The results of the activities show an increase in members' ability to manage feed, regulate the breeding process, and perform simple financial record-keeping. From a social perspective, new rules have emerged within the community, a collaborative way of working has developed, and more members are actively participating in group forums. The assistance has also given rise to local leaders who act as motivators and mediators for the community. The shift in attitude towards awareness of the importance of open management and sustainable efforts is an early sign of more inclusive social change. Thus, these activities prove that the success of Haceri management depends not only on improving technical skills, but also on strengthening social cooperation, local leadership, and sustainable community rules.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to increase the income of farmers in Delima Jaya Village through education on the use of lemongrass-based botanical pesticides as an alternative to chemical pesticides. The main problems faced by farmers are high production costs and the health and environmental risks associated with the use of synthetic pesticides. The activity was carried out using a participatory method through surveys, outreach, training on botanical pesticide production, field mentoring, and program impact evaluation. The results showed that farmers were able to produce botanical pesticides independently at 80% lower costs than chemical pesticides. Field trials demonstrated the effectiveness of botanical pesticides in controlling pests, increasing crop yields by 10–15%, and increasing farmer incomes by up to IDR 3.5–3.8 million per planting season. The program also raised farmers' awareness of the importance of sustainable agricultural practices utilizing local resources. Overall, education on the use of lemongrass-based botanical pesticides has proven effective in reducing production costs, increasing farmer productivity and welfare, and supporting environmental sustainability. This local potential-based empowerment model can be replicated in other villages to create an environmentally friendly and competitive agricultural system. Additionally, the program fostered greater awareness among the farmers regarding the importance of sustainable agricultural practices, such as reducing the use of synthetic chemicals and leveraging locally available plants for pest control. This empowerment model, based on local potential, can be replicated in other villages to promote an environmentally friendly and economically viable agricultural system.

Abstract

The reading corner program is one of the literacy strengthening strategies that is simple yet effective in encouraging elementary school students’ reading interest. The main problem underlying this activity is the low reading interest of elementary school students, who tend to spend more time playing than reading books. This condition affects the suboptimal development of a reading culture and students’ learning outcomes. The strength of the reading corner lies in its accessibility, flexibility in arrangement, and its ability to create a conducive, enjoyable learning atmosphere that is close to students’ daily lives. This community service aims to increase reading interest as well as to build a literacy culture at SD Negeri 2 Cempaka. The method used is Participatory Action Research (PAR), which includes planning, action implementation, observation, and evaluation to obtain comprehensive field data. The results show that the presence of the reading corner provides an alternative space for students to read before lessons or during breaks. Teachers are actively involved in guiding students, such as giving simple directions or asking them to retell the content of their reading. Students who initially preferred playing gradually became accustomed to reading independently. Other impacts observed include increased teacher involvement, the growth of book collections, and the establishment of a classroom environment that supports the School Literacy Movement (SLM). Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of the reading corner program through the PAR approach has proven effective in fostering reading interest, strengthening literacy culture, and making a positive contribution to improving the learning quality of elementary school students.

Abstract

Empowering rural women through creative economic development is an important strategy in improving community independence and welfare. This study focuses on efforts to improve the skills of the Women Farmers Group (KWT) in Jaya Asri Village, Metro Kibang District, East Lampung, by providing training in tablecloth making based on the shibori technique. The method used is Participatory Action Research (PAR), which emphasizes the active involvement of KWT members in every stage of the activity. There were 12–15 participants, who were involved from the process of identifying needs, drafting plans, implementing training, observation, to evaluation. Data collection was carried out through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed qualitatively through reduction, presentation of information, and drawing conclusions, and reinforced through source triangulation techniques. The results of the study show that the training was able to improve basic shibori skills, build confidence, foster entrepreneurial motivation, and strengthen solidarity among group members. However, several obstacles were found that need to be addressed, such as limited technical mastery, limited training time, and suboptimal access to product marketing. These obstacles indicate the need for ongoing mentoring programs and institutional support so that the results of the training can continue to develop. The research conclusion confirms that shibori has the potential to be a gateway to creative economic development in villages. This potential can only be realized if it is supported by ongoing training, marketing support, and consistent institutional facilitation.

Abstract

The cultivation of ethics, social interaction, and care is a fundamental aspect of shaping the character of church youth to live according to Christian values. The youth of GKSI Sion face various modern challenges, such as individualism, a lack of social concern, and declining quality of relationships among congregation members. This article highlights the importance of an inclusive community as an effective framework for character formation, based on the biblical principle in Philippians 2:3–4, which emphasizes humility, selflessness, and prioritizing the interests of others. Through theological and practical approaches, this formation aims to nurture ethics grounded in love, strengthen healthy social interaction, and foster genuine concern for others. The method employed includes literature study, theological reflection, and contextual analysis of the local congregation. Findings indicate that youth nurtured within an inclusive community demonstrate increased empathy, greater involvement in ministry, and stronger social solidarity. The inclusive community not only functions as a learning space but also as a setting for building a firm faith identity relevant to contemporary challenges. Thus, youth formation through this approach may serve as an applicable model for other churches in strengthening the role of young people as agents of social and spiritual transformation. In conclusion, the integration of Philippians 2:3–4 values into inclusive community formation plays a vital role in raising a church generation that is ethical, socially engaged, and genuinely caring toward others.

Abstract

This community service program was designed to strengthen community preparedness in providing first aid for cardiac arrest cases in tourist areas, with a focus on empowering members of the Karang Taruna youth organization in Topejawa Village through the implementation of the AL CPR For CFR application. Cardiac arrest, known as a silent killer, is a serious health threat, especially when it occurs outside healthcare facilities, including tourist destinations that often lack immediate medical access. Therefore, equipping local youth with knowledge and skills in Basic Life Support (BLS) is an urgent necessity. The program involved 40 Karang Taruna members and was carried out in collaboration with the Public Safety Centre (PSC) of Takalar District. Training activities included lectures, group discussions, application-based learning, and simulation practice using standard mannequins. Pre-intervention assessments revealed that most participants had very low levels of understanding of BLS, with 86.11% categorized as poor. After the training, there was a significant improvement, with 94.44% of participants achieving a good level of knowledge. In addition, all participants were able to demonstrate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills according to standard operating procedures. The integration of theory, digital learning, and hands-on practice proved to be an effective combination for enhancing participants’ competencies. This program not only improved the capacity of local youth but also created a sustainable model of community empowerment. The empowerment of Karang Taruna as community first responders ensures that tourist villages have a resilient health safety network in facing cardiac arrest incidents. The program demonstrates that mobile-based applications can serve as practical, measurable, and adaptable tools for health education in various resource-limited contexts. Moving forward, it is recommended to expand the scope to other community groups, integrate continuous training with local health services, and conduct long-term monitoring to maintain participants’ skills and readiness.
