Journal of Biology, Environment, and Edu-Tourism (JBEE) is a scientific and applied journal in the fields of biology, environment, and tourism education. The published papers can be in the form of research results and review results using scientific methodology standards. Therefore, the Journal of Biology, Environment, and Tourism Education is a journal processed by expert peer review published by the Siti Widhatul Faeha Foundation. The Journal of Biology, Environment, and Edu-Tourism (JBEE) is a quality world intellectual sharing forum in the fields of biology, environment, and edu-tourism. The Journal of Biology, Environment, and Edu-Tourism (JBEE) Education is published three times a year (January-April, May-August, September-December) in online and printed versions. Focus and Scope: The Journal of Biology, Environment, and Edu-Tourism (JBEE) is dedicated to publishing high-quality research covering all aspects of the field, using both Indonesian and English languages, with a primary focus on the following core areas: Biology: genetics, molecular biology, anatomy, physiology, ecology, evolution, taxonomy, botany, zoology, and biotechnology. Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems play a crucial role in maintaining the stability of coastal environments; therefore, studies of mangrove community structure are essential to support the management of ecotourism areas. This study aims to analyze the structure of the mangrove community in the Bale Mangrove Ecotourism Area, East Lombok. The study employed a quantitative descriptive method through vegetation analysis using line transect and quadrat plot techniques, followed by analysis using the Importance Value Index (IVI), density, and the Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H'). The results indicate the presence of 5 mangrove species across 3 families, with the highest importance index values observed in the sapling stage, specifically Rhizophora stylosa (101.12%) and Rhizophora mucronata at the seedling stage (83.39%) and the tree stage (91.01%). The highest density was found at the seedling stage at 15,666.67 ind/ha, followed by saplings at 9,573.33 ind/ha and trees at 1,933.33 ind/ha, while the overall diversity index was classified as moderate with an H' value of 1.340. In conclusion, the mangrove community in the Bale Mangrove Ecotourism Area is relatively stable but dominated by certain species. The results of this study indicate the need for ecology-based management to enhance species diversity and ensure the sustainability of the mangrove ecosystem in the ecotourism area.

Abstract

Spiders play an important role in ecosystems as natural predators and can be used as indicators of environmental conditions. This study aimed to analyze the relative abundance and diversity index of spiders in the ex-situ and in-situ conservation areas of Kebun Raya Lemor, East Lombok. Data collection was conducted using the Visual Encounter Survey (VES) method with a 200-meter transect and a 20-meter observation width. Data analysis was performed using the relative abundance formula and the Shannon–Wiener diversity index. The results showed that in the ex-situ conservation area, 13 species from 6 families were recorded, whereas in the in-situ conservation area, 8 species from 5 families were found. The highest relative abundance in the ex-situ area was represented by Leiobunum vittatum and Argyrodes miniaceus, while the in-situ area was dominated by Leiobunum vittatum. The diversity index in the ex-situ area was 2.32, and in the in-situ area was 1.32, both of which are classified as moderate; however, the ex-situ area showed higher diversity than the in-situ area. These findings indicate that the ex-situ area has a more heterogeneous habitat that supports a more diverse and balanced spider community than the in-situ area.

Abstract

One relevant concept in supporting contextual learning is the use of ecotourism as a learning resource. Ecotourism serves not only as a recreational activity but also as an educational medium that integrates environmental, social, and cultural aspects. This study aims to comprehensively examine the use of ecotourism as a science learning resource in Indonesia through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The method follows the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, including identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion stages. A total of 20 selected articles from the Scopus and SINTA databases, published between 2016 and 2025, were analyzed using content analysis. The findings indicate that ecotourism has significant potential as a resource for contextual and experiential learning. Its implementation has been proven to enhance students’ scientific literacy, critical thinking skills, and pro-environmental attitudes and behaviors. Furthermore, integrating ecotourism into learning supports the implementation of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) by strengthening ecological awareness and sustainability values. However, the application of ecotourism as a learning resource still faces several challenges, including limited curriculum integration, policy support, and the readiness of educational resources. Therefore, it is necessary to develop systematic, innovative, and technology-based learning models to optimize the use of ecotourism in science education.

Abstract

Waste generation in mountain tourism areas has become a critical environmental issue, driven by increasing visitor numbers and the dominance of single-use packaging. However, limited attention has been given to how hikers' consumption preferences shape waste patterns. This study aims to analyze these preferences using a brand audit approach to support eco-friendly packaging innovation. A descriptive quantitative method was applied through surveys and checklist observations involving 180 hikers along the Tetebatu hiking trail, Mount Rinjani National Park. Data were analyzed using frequency and percentage distributions. The results show that hikers predominantly prefer practical, ready-to-use products such as snacks, instant food, and bottled mineral water, which dominate the waste stream. A key finding reveals that waste generation is highly concentrated within a small number of dominant brands, indicating that specific producers disproportionately drive environmental impacts. This demonstrates that hikers' preferences significantly influence both the type and persistence of waste in mountain ecosystems. The study highlights that brand audit provides a strategic link between consumption behavior and environmental impact, offering a targeted basis for eco-friendly packaging innovation. This research contributes to sustainable tourism by emphasizing upstream interventions through product and packaging redesign, supported by collaboration among producers, policymakers, and conservation authorities.

Abstract

Hydroponic golden melon agritourism can transform horticultural production into an educational visitor experience; however, its development requires clear priorities when production, infrastructure, marketing, and institutional resources are limited. This study prioritized development strategies for Kebon Ayu, West Lombok, using an exploratory sequential design integrating SWOT analysis and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Field observations and semi-structured interviews with 30 purposively selected stakeholders were used to consolidate 20 strategic factors. Pairwise comparisons generated local and global AHP weights, which were linked to eight TOWS strategies and tested through 10,000 Monte Carlo perturbations. Strengths received the highest group weight (0.495), followed by opportunities (0.310), weaknesses (0.134), and threats (0.061). The factor representing product quality and the hydroponic cultivation system received the highest global weight (0.1881). Experiential education and golden-melon picking ranked first (0.5290), ahead of integrated destination development (0.4116) and climate-adaptive cultivation (0.4046), and remained first in 100% of simulations. The findings support visitor experience as the development anchor while destination readiness and production resilience advance in parallel, providing a transparent basis for phased investment and stakeholder coordination.

Abstract

Agrotourism on small islands necessitates livelihood diversification that remains in harmony with ecological limits and local institutional capacity. This study aims to analyse agrotourism assets, development constraints, and community readiness in Labuan Aji Village, Moyo Island, as well as to formulate a phased, conservation-based development framework. The study employed a qualitative descriptive design using Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA). A total of 30 informants were purposively selected, and data were collected through semi-structured interviews, two focused group discussions, five field observations, document review, and stakeholder validation. The data were analysed thematically and integrated with the five dimensions of the 2014 Community Readiness Model (CRM). An overall CRM score of 6.01 placed the community at Stage 6 (Initiation); "Knowledge of Issues" received the highest score of 6.42, while "Resources" had the lowest at 5.57. The RRA identified cashews, wild honey, Lar, natural attractions, local institutions, and guiding experience as key assets, with priority given to strengthening connectivity, processing, market access, coordination, and conservation governance. These findings support a strategy that emphasises institutional consolidation, biocultural value chains, capacity building, benefit sharing, monitoring, and phased implementation.

Abstract

Rural agrotourism has the potential to expand sources of income by linking local products, ecological management, and community participation. This study aims to analyse community perceptions regarding the readiness for the development of Trigona honey agrotourism and to formulate a development framework appropriate to the context of Rangsot Hamlet, North Lombok. The study employed a descriptive cross-sectional survey design conducted from March to May 2026 among 50 respondents selected through purposive sampling based on their knowledge or experience related to Trigona beekeeping, agroforestry, or local tourism. The instrument consisted of 25 four-point Likert-scale statements covering five dimensions; data were analysed using means, frequencies, percentages, and a SWOT analysis based on survey results and the literature. Community participation received the highest average score (3.46), followed by agrotourism potential (3.40), sustainability (3.33), livelihood diversification (3.31), and infrastructure and institutional support (3.17). Promotion (2.96) and support from the village government (3.04) were identified as priority areas for strengthening. The research results indicate strong social readiness and resources, so development efforts can be directed toward habitat conservation, community capacity building, educational tourism, digital marketing, and collaborative governance as the foundation for sustainable livelihood diversification.

Abstract

Saleh Bay in Sumbawa is an aggregation area for whale sharks (R. typus) that is closely intertwined with bagan fishing, marine tourism, coastal livelihoods, and conservation interests. This study aims to analyze the interrelationships within the social-ecological system of Saleh Bay and to formulate a model for the development of integrated agrotourism based on whale shark ecotourism. The study employs a conceptual case study design through a structured integrative review of 36 peer-reviewed journal articles and four institutional sources; sources were selected purposefully based on thematic relevance, publication quality, and evidence traceability. Data were analyzed using Social-Ecological Systems coding, the construction of a Causal Loop Diagram, and a comparison of the “Business as Usual” scenario with the “Integrated Sustainable Tourism” scenario. The analysis identified two reinforcing loops and two balancing loops, as well as five model components: ecological protection, tourism capacity management, community-based benefit sharing, coastal agrotourism diversification, and collaborative governance. External ABM evidence indicates a trend toward higher long-term economic value in the conservation scenario. The model confirms that the sustainability of Saleh Bay depends on the integration of conservation, equitable benefit sharing, livelihood diversification, and adaptive management, thereby providing a foundation for more inclusive and resilient coastal destination development policies.

Abstract

Date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) agrotourism has the potential to serve as a form of agricultural tourism diversification because it combines crop production, education, cultural value, and opportunities for the development of value-added products. This study aims to formulate a strategic direction for the development of date palm agrotourism in the Sulabam Area, Sumbawa Regency. The study employed a sequential mixed-methods descriptive design; qualitative data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, after which 15 respondents were purposively selected for the weighting and evaluation of strategic factors. Analysis was conducted using the IFAS, EFAS, SWOT positioning matrix, and SWOT strategy matrix. The results showed a strength score of 1.39 and a weakness score of 2.17, while the opportunity score was 2.18 and the threat score was 0.89. The coordinates X = -0.78 and Y = 1.29 place Sulabam in the WO quadrant. Priority strategies include strengthening digital promotion, enhancing management and service capacity, providing basic visitor facilities, and strengthening institutional collaboration. These findings indicate that leveraging external opportunities to improve internal readiness is a crucial step toward developing a competitive and adaptive date agrotourism sector that provides economic benefits to the local community.

Abstract

The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) possesses morphological specializations that support high-speed locomotion, while its phylogenetic position within the family Felidae has been supported by molecular studies. This study aims to evaluate the ability of partial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) fragments to reconstruct the phylogenetic placement of A. jubatus using an in silico approach. The study employed a computational molecular phylogenetic design with purposive sampling from GenBank, comprising 32 COI records—29 from Felidae and three non-Felidae outgroups within Feliformia. The sequences were aligned using MUSCLE in MEGA11, then analyzed using Maximum Parsimony, 1,000 bootstrap repetitions, the Consistency Index (CI), and the Retention Index (RI). The final 275-bp alignment contained 87 conserved positions, 188 variable positions, and 173 parsimony-informative characters; A. jubatus was placed within the Felidae ingroup with a CI of 0.429 and an RI of 0.531. These results indicate that the partial COI is effective for recovering family-level phylogenetic signals, while also providing an analytical basis for the integration of multigene data in more detailed phylogenetic studies.
