Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the chin tuck against resistance (CTAR) approach in reducing aspiration and increasing oral intake in individuals with post-stroke swallowing disorders. This study was a systematic review and meta-analytical design. Electronic database in the form of PubMed is used to search related data. Three experimental articles with a randomized controlled trial (RCT) design were included in this study. Based on related results, it is known that CTAR has an effect on reducing aspiration rate (SMD = -1.03; 95% CI -1.72 – -0.35) and it is known that CTAR has an effect on increasing oral intake (SMD = 0.82; 95% CI 0.03 – 1.61) .

Abstract

This study aims to assess how much the predictive power of verbal short term memory has on language skills. Participants in this study involved 50 typical preschool children, with a range of ages four to six years. Each participant was assessed using the Test of Auditory Processing Skill (TAPS-3) and Developmental Profile (DP-3). Data analysis in this study used correlation tests and linear regression tests with JASP. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between verbal short term memory and language skills (r = 0.635; p <0.001).

Abstract

When speaking, we interpret sound symbols or symbols spoken through the mouth, which is called articulation, whether the spoken word is produced clearly or not. This ability is influenced by the use of articulation organ movements. Good articulation if the speaker (communicant) when conveying what is said is heard or captured clearly by the other person (communicator), the speech does not sound good and does not experience failure or articulation errors, whether in the form of sound impressions (substitution), omission of sound (omission), sound disruption (distortion), and sound addition (addition). Dyslogia is a disorder of the mind caused by mental retardation, or intellectual disabilities whose intelligence is below average, which limits the normal IQ of 90. Children who have abnormalities or failure to produce articulations can be caused by abnormalities in the form of mental retardation, meaning that they are mentally retarded. Those with speech impairments are known as dyslogia. Mental retardation difficulties which are mainly in the form of difficulties in thinking and understanding. Life skills that can influence are certain conceptual, social and practical skills. The purpose of this research is to find out whether the most visible form of articulation failure is owned by clients with mental retardation dyslogia The research analyzed consisted of 10 (ten) samples which were secondary data, with forms of articulation failure in the form of substitution, omission, distortion and addition, also known as (SODA).

Abstract

Aphasia is an acquired language disorder resulting from a lesion in the part of the brain that regulates language. Broca's aphasia as one of the aphasia syndromes is a type of aphasia that often appears. Broca's aphasia is non-fluent aphasia, there are problems in communicating due to deficits in language forms, in the form of problems with phonology, morphology and syntax. Output verbally disturbed mild to severe. The aim of this research is to know the form of language phonologically, morphologically and syntactically in patients with Broca's aphasia. This study used a qualitative case study type method, in which the researcher conducted an in- depth exploration of 10 language samples with Broca's aphasia. The study used the Aphasia Test instrument for Diagnostic Information and Rehabilitation (TADIR). Broca's aphasia sufferers show a significant reduction in the form of their language, in the form of disturbances in phonology (phonemic), morphology, and syntax

Abstract

This study aims to provide preliminary evidence regarding the important role of prelinguistic abilities in language development. This study involved 29 preschool children. Each child is assessed individually using the developmental profile and assessment of social and communication skills. After all the data is obtained, the data on each variable will be converted into a z-score before statistical analysis is carried out. Based on the correlation analysis, it is known that there is a correlation between joint attention and language (r = 0.697; p <.001), symbolic play and language (r = 0.820; p <.001), imitation and language (r = 0.680). ;p <.001), and gesture with language (r = 0.697; p <.001). This study provides preliminary evidence that it is important to consider prelinguistic abilities in language skills assessment and intervention.

Abstract

Background: verbal communication is studied primarily through the auditory modality. Adverse impact on language development, cognition, academics, including verbal communication when there is a decrease in hearing sensitivity. Objective: this study aims to provide initial evidence of changes in ability to identify speech sounds after intervention with auditory training. Method: The research method used is a single- subject experiment. Data were collected through interviews with the client’s parents, direct, observations of the client, test and a document study of the client’s medical record. Result: After 10 sessions of speech therapy using auditory training, the client's ability to detect sounds increased by 83.3%. Conclusion: providing auditory training to identify sounds is important for children with hearing loss. Keywords: verbal communication, speech sounds, auditory training, hearing loss.

Abstract

Background: down syndrome is the most common chromosomal disorder that causes intellectual disability. Articulation disorder is one of the symptoms found in down syndrome. The condition is affected by macroglossia, muscle hypotonia, lack of control over lips and tongue and motor deficiency. Objective: The need for early intervention through speech therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy as well as medical attention for various health problems that occur. Method: using Single Subject Research, with one group pretest-posttest design. The participant was a female aged 8:5 years with articulation disorder on /p/ at the start of a word and had never received speech therapy. Data collection was done through interviews with the client's parents, direct observation of the client, tests, and document studies. Speech therapy was conducted for 10 sessions with an emphasis on bilabial phonetic placement exercises. Perceptual assessment by comparing the ability to produce /p/ at the start of a word before and after therapy. Results: in the post speech therapy assessment, there was an increase of 60%. Conclusion: Interventions given to clients to help articulation skills through the phonetic placement method. After the intervention was carried out for 10 sessions, a post test was carried out on the client and there were changes in the client's articulation ability in this case. Keywords: articulation, intellectual disability, phonetic placement method

Abstract

Background: Dysaudia is a speech disorder associated with auditory feedback problems, which can occur due to hearing loss. Articulation is an important part of speech, and children with hearing problem need immediate help to improve their slow pronunciation skills due to hearing loss. Objective: One method of treating deaf children is to Learning to listen. By relying on the remaining hearing, this method aims to help children detect sounds and associate sounds with objects. Methods: One-subject experiment, using a one-group pre-posttest design. The participant was an 8-year-old boy with hearing loss who received speech therapy. Data were collected through interviews with the client's mother, direct observation of the client, tests, and study document. Speech therapy was conducted in 10 sessions by training the client receptive language at the word level. Comparing the client's language acquisition ability before and after therapy. Results: In the evaluation after speech therapy, there was an increase of 100% Conclusion: The listening training method is considered effective in improving the receptive language skills of children with hearing problem Keyword: Dysaudia, learning to listen, articulation

Abstract

Background: Down syndrome is a chromosomal abnormality that occurs during the prenatal period. This condition causes a child to experience several disorders, one of which is receptive language disorder or understanding. This receptive language disorder can occur due to short-term memory impairment. Seeing this, an intervention is needed to optimise the receptive language skills of children with Down syndrome. Purpose: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the application of the drill play method in improving the receptive language skills of children with Down syndrome. Method: using a single subject experiment, using a one group pretest-posttest design. The research subject was a girl with Down syndrome aged two years and three months and had receptive language disorder. Data collection was done through interviews with the client's parents, direct observation of the client, tests, and document studies. Speech therapy was conducted for 10 meetings with the drill play method which emphasises repetition of exercises for client's receptive language understanding. Perceptual assessment by comparing word-level receptive language skills before and after therapy. Results: There was no improvement in word-level receptive language skills. Conclusion: the application of the drill play method in receptive disorders of children with down syndrome has not increased due to the lack of therapy sessions conducted and the provision of material that is less familiar to the client's daily life. Keywords: down syndrome, receptive language disorder, drill play method.
