Jati Emas (Jurnal Aplikasi Teknik dan Pengabdian Masyarakat) is a scientific journal published by the Perkumpulan Dosen Indonesia Semesta (DIS), East Java Regional Board, with E-ISSN 2550-0821. The journal is published quarterly, in March, June, September, and December. Jati Emas aims to serve as a publication platform for scholarly works based on applied engineering and community service activities, particularly for early-career lecturers, students, and authors developing their scientific publication skills. The journal emphasizes author mentoring to ensure articles meet scientific standards, novelty, and publication ethics, and implements a published-in-ready system to accelerate the publication process. Its focus and scope include innovation and application of appropriate technologies, solving real community problems through scientific and engineering approaches, implementation of community service programs with direct impacts on community capacity building and welfare improvement, as well as the development of cross-disciplinary applied methods and practical solutions oriented toward social benefits.

Abstract

Wonosari Village is one of the priority locations for stunting prevention with a percentage of pregnant women with chronic energy deficiency of 33.3%, energy intake of 66.7% of the nutritional adequacy rate (RDA), nutritional problems with iron, folic acid, calcium and zinc. Community service activities are carried out to improve the behavior of pregnant women regarding balanced nutrition based on local food. Educational activities are carried out three times, namely once a month in July-September 2023 according to the class schedule for pregnant women. Educational material about stunting, the first 1000 days of life (HPK), and a balanced nutrition guide based on local food (PGS-PL) for pregnant women. Measurement of the mother's level of knowledge about the material presented was carried out before the 1st education (pre-test) and after the 3rd education (post-test) using the interview method using a questionnaire. Pre-test and post-test data analysis was carried out using the Wilcoxon test at α=5%. The results of this community service show a significant increase, the average knowledge score of pregnant women from 7.67 to 10.25 out of a total score of 12. Almost all pregnant women have been able to apply balanced nutrition based on local food based on the type and amount of plate contents. It is hoped that nutrition implementers from the local health center will continue to strengthen the implementation of PGS-PL in every class for pregnant women at the Wonosari Village Assistant Health Center.

Abstract

Santri have an important role in future developments in various sectors. The younger generation after graduating will choose work rather than entrepreneurship. This is because when they were at school or at the Islamic boarding school they did not have the skills. Students' skills in entrepreneurship, called santripreneurship, need to be honed from an early age to realize students' independence after completing formal and informal schooling at Islamic boarding schools. Science and Technology-based PKM activities are carried out at the Al-Ikhsan Islamic Boarding School, Purwokerto. The aim of this activity is (1) to improve students' understanding (cognitive) and skills (psychomotor) in hydroponic vegetable production technology, and (2) to foster students' entrepreneurial spirit (santripreneurship) so that they can become entrepreneurs after graduating. Implementation methods include (1) counseling or material transfer, (2) hydroponic vegetable production practices, and (3) assistance in product marketing. The results of service activities show that there is an increase in knowledge and skills in hydroponic vegetable production starting from installation, planting, nutritional application to maintenance.

Abstract

The coffee business is booming along with the growth of coffee shops, both large and small scale. This fact makes the coffee market more competitive, so coffee producers need to innovate and diversify more varied coffee preparations. The purpose of this empowerment is to encourage partners to present products that are different from the products that have been produced so far. This activity develops liquid cinnamon processed coffee which is a diversification of Rizki Amalia's MSME ground coffee products. This cinnamon coffee making training is based on the problem of high competitiveness between ground coffee producers in Enrekang. Black ground coffee producers and sellers have been widely spread in Enrekang district so that better innovation is needed to increase the selling value of coffee products. The results of this training contributed new knowledge and skills for Rizki Amalia MSME players in processing black ground coffee products combined with ground cinnamon. This activity is expected to make Rizki Amalia MSME products have a higher selling value than before. In the future, assistance to Rizki Amalia MSMEs will continue to provide training on developing digital-based product marketing.

Abstract

SMK Negeri Penerbangan Aceh is one of the educational institutions in the Aceh region that focuses on vocational education. In this community service initiative, the team identified the challenges faced by teachers at this school, as the lack of motivation and time constraints in writing academic papers. In an effort to address these issues, the team designed and implemented a training program that encompasses academic writing techniques and the use of research software. The evaluation results show a significant improvement in the motivation, self-confidence, and knowledge of teachers related to academic paper writing. This program also facilitates collaboration among teachers, members of the team, and guest speakers. This collaboration provides emotional support and a deeper understanding of research strategies and the application of technology in developing academic papers. The contribution of this community service initiative aids teachers at SMK Negeri Penerbangan Aceh in enhancing their ability to write academic papers, which supports the requirements for promotion and professional career advancement. This training program also has the potential to be implemented in other educational institutions facing similar challenges in improving teacher professionalism.

Abstract

"Chemistry Goes to School" is an educational program that aims to introduce basic chemistry concepts to students in an interesting and interactive way. This program is designed not only based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Higher Education but also to educate students about the principles of chemistry in everyday life and inspire their interest in the field of chemistry. The implemented program components include (a) interactive scientific discussions with professors from abroad, (b) interactive chemistry games and (c) exhibition of lecturers' and students' research results. The "Chemistry Goes to School" program is expected to be able to change students' view of chemistry from something complicated to something interesting and relevant in their daily lives. With an interactive and varied approach, it is hoped that students will feel more involved and motivated in learning chemistry. The feedback from this activity was that the students were very enthusiastic, and this activity was very useful. The input from this activity is that similar activities are to be carried out periodically in schools.

Abstract

Kedungbenda Village, Purbalingga Regency, has great agricultural potential. Agriculture in Kedungbenda Village is the livelihood of most of the village population. However, the "Harja Tani" farmer group faces serious obstacles in its limited planting cycle due to a lack of access to water. Previous attempts to overcome this problem, such as drawing water from nearby rivers and drilling wells, were unsuccessful due to the long distances caused by significant elevation differences between the river and agricultural land and high operational costs. This activity aims to implement innovative rain-fed reservoirs as an agricultural irrigation solution. The method is to create rain-fed reservoirs for water storage and agricultural irrigation. The output target of this activity is a rain-fed reservoir, which can be used to store water and be used for agricultural irrigation. Based on the activity results, the rain-fed reservoir is suitable for the partners' needs because it can be used as water storage during the dry season. Apart from that, farmer groups hope to increase agricultural productivity and improve local communities' welfare. Thus, this activity supports economic growth and sustainability of the agricultural sector in Kedungbenda village.

Abstract

This Community Service (PkM) activity was motivated by the lack of skills in implementing 2D designs into 3D mockups that pay attention to architectural rules in the Archasena Tulungagung community. This PkM activity was carried out by Architecture Lecturers and Architecture HMPs at Bhinneka PGRI University, Tulungagung, East Java by providing 3D modeling training and assistance in making mockups. Training and mentoring are carried out by first providing material to increase participants' understanding before making the product. The output of this PkM activity is a 3D mockup product whose manufacture considers architectural principles. The activities that produce this product are an effort to improve the skills of members of the Archasena Tulungagung Community.

Abstract

Efforts to increase understanding of Computational Thinking (CT) in the context of the Independent Curriculum in Indonesia with a focus on strengthening fundamental educational competencies, are carried out by utilizing the Scratch Game learning method. Gaussian Kamil School (GKS) faces the challenge of integrating CT skills in the Merdeka Curriculum, and teachers at GKS undergo training with Unplugged Programming Activities. The use of the Scratch Game with the Bee Bot Robot and the Activity Map board is an innovative solution. This service tests the development of CT skills through algorithm learning, especially through the Scratch Game. The results demonstrated an engaging learning experience and a better understanding of algorithm concepts. The Scratch Game themes prove the effectiveness of this method, especially for students who are not yet familiar with digital technology. This dedication also provides the foundation for a comprehensive Scratch Game module in teaching the algorithmic aspects of CT skills. The final recommendations include expanding the application of the Scratch Game in the teaching of CT algorithms in schools with limited access to technology, while supporting the development of modules that can be widely adopted to improve students' CT skills.

Abstract

“Bukit Kunci” in Bangowan, Jiken, Blora Regency, is a hill tourist attraction developed by Pokdarwis “Bukit Kunci Asri” in 2019 and managed by BUMDes Bangowan Village. Partners' problems are an electrical power lack and the visitors number decrease. Currently the available electricity is not able to support facilities for lighting, water pumps and others equipment. Partners need additional power to increase the lights number in camping grounds, gazebos, toilets, add water pumps, cellphone, camera chargers and provide electricity at food stalls. With an income of 3.3 million/month from 600 visitors (before Covid-19), partners do not have enough funds to add electrical power. The solution offered is to build an Archimedes Turbine PLTB, due to hilly location with gusts of wind. The PLTB also be used as a new educational vehicle. Efforts to revitalize the Bukit Kunci tourist attraction based on PLTB as a step towards a sustainable green economy have been successfully implemented. The use of PLTB can produce additional sources of electricity to support the provision of electrical energy at the Bukit Kunci tourist location in addition to electricity from PLN. By increasing facilities at tourist locations, it has been proven that it can increase the number of visitors by 900 visitors from the initial 600 visitors (an increase of 50%) thus having an impact on increasing the income of the surrounding community.
