Abstract

Teacher performance is a key factor in improving the quality of education, but there are still many challenges faced regarding the role of principal leadership in encouraging teacher professionalism. This study aims to determine the influence of teacher perceptions of the principal's democratic leadership style and the principal's performance on teacher performance in elementary schools. The research method used is quantitative with a survey design. The study population was 65 teachers from five elementary schools in Tapung District who were selected through random sampling techniques using the Slovin formula. Data were collected using a Likert scale questionnaire (1–4) and analyzed using multiple linear regression with the help of SPSS version 25. The results showed that teacher perceptions of the principal's democratic leadership style had a significant effect on teacher performance (t count = 3.879 > t table = 2.034; sig. = 0.004), as well as the principal's performance which also had a significant effect on teacher performance (t count = 5.875 > t table = 2.034; sig. = 0.000). Simultaneously, the two independent variables contributed 57.5% to teacher performance, while the remaining 42.5% was influenced by factors outside this study. In conclusion, democratic leadership style and principal performance play a significant role in improving teacher performance, thus strengthening the theory of participatory leadership while providing practical implications for improving the quality of basic education.

Abstract

The phenomenon of increasing intolerance and radicalism emphasizes the importance of strengthening religious moderation through Islamic education, particularly in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). This study aims to analyze the process of internalizing multicultural Islamic educational values in shaping moderate attitudes at the Al-Amien Prenduan Islamic Boarding School. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The results indicate that the values of equality and justice, tolerance and plurality, unity and brotherhood, nationalism, and anti-radicalism are internalized through ta'aruf (introduction to religious teachings), habituation, Jimbaz (religious gatherings), mujadalah (religious guidance), and the exemplary behavior of kyai (Islamic religious teachers). This process results in an inclusive, tolerant, and moderately religious pesantren environment. These findings contribute to the development of Islamic multicultural education theory and strengthen the role of pesantren as agents of social and cultural moderation. Future research is recommended to expand the scope to other pesantren for more comprehensive results.

Abstract

Bullying in schools is a serious problem that negatively impacts the psychological, social, and academic development of students. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Islamic Personal Development Program (BPI) at SMPIT Al Huda Wonogiri as a preventive strategy in addressing bullying through a character development approach based on Islamic values. Using a qualitative research method with a case study design, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed thematically. The results of the study indicate that BPI, implemented systematically through coaching students, teachers, and parents, is able to reduce the frequency and intensity of bullying, and create a safe, empathetic, and religious school climate. The approach of spiritual education, habituation of worship, role models, and active student participation has proven effective in internalizing the values of monotheism, good morals, empathy, and responsibility. This study provides a theoretical contribution by strengthening the moral concepts of Al-Ghazali, Ibn Miskawaih, and Lickona's character education theory. The conclusion of the study confirms that spirituality-based character education has great potential as a bullying prevention model that can be replicated in various schools. It is recommended that further research explore the application of this model in different social and cultural contexts and measure its long-term impact.

Abstract

The urgency of implementing Islamic values-based counseling in schools is highly relevant in supporting the overall character development and academic achievement of students. This study aims to examine the role of Islamic Education (PAI) teachers in the implementation of counseling at SMA Negeri 2 Boyolali during the 2023/2024 academic year. A qualitative method with a case study approach was used, involving in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis to collect data, which was then analyzed thematically. The results of the study indicate that PAI teachers play a strategic role through a structured yet informal approach, collaborating with counseling teachers to provide spiritual, moral, and academic support for students. Challenges such as time constraints, limited facilities, and students' level of openness were identified; however, overall, this counseling guidance was effective in enhancing student participation and trust. These findings enrich understanding of the implementation of religion-based counseling guidance and provide a foundation for developing more optimal counseling services in schools. Further research is recommended to explore more adaptive counseling models by leveraging technology and teacher training.

Abstract

MAS Ulumul Quran Langsa is a unique Islamic senior high school in Indonesia that integrates pesantren-based religious education with general education and a strong emphasis on science and technology (IPTEK). However, the teaching of the Arabic language at this institution faces several pedagogical challenges. This study aims to explore the core issues affecting Arabic language instruction at MAS Ulumul Quran Langsa and identify efforts to address them. This is a qualitative descriptive research employing a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, and data validity was ensured through source triangulation. The findings reveal that the Arabic language teaching process at MAS Ulumul Quran Langsa is structured around core management functions. Nevertheless, several challenges persist, including: (a) students' limited comprehension of the material; (b) low learning motivation; (c) inadequate teacher competencies; and (d) suboptimal implementation of management functions. To overcome these challenges, the school has taken measures such as improving classroom instruction, enhancing student motivation, increasing teacher professional development, and reinforcing the application of educational management functions.

Abstract

The rapid development of internet technology has significantly transformed learning practices, highlighting the urgency of fostering self-directed learning (SDL) among students. This issue is particularly relevant in Islamic Religious Education (PAI), where digital media can potentially enhance student autonomy, critical reflection, and engagement. This study aims to explore the role of internet-based learning in promoting SDL among students at MTs Yaspi Pakis, Magelang. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with teachers and students, participatory classroom observations, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, including data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Findings indicate that while internet access and platforms such as Google, WhatsApp, and YouTube are widely utilized, students remain highly dependent on teacher guidance, exhibit limited motivation for independent exploration, and often use digital media for entertainment rather than academic purposes. Other barriers include low digital literacy, limited access to devices, lack of interactive digital content, weak parental support, and insufficient pedagogical design. The study concludes that internet-based learning alone does not guarantee increased autonomy in learning unless supported by improved digital literacy, interactive pedagogy, and collaboration among teachers, parents, and institutions. These findings contribute to the discourse on integrating technology into Islamic education by emphasizing the need for systemic interventions. Future research should explore broader contexts, employ mixed methods, and focus on developing innovative digital learning designs tailored to religious education.

Abstract

The implementation of Islamic legal values in education management is an urgent issue in strengthening the quality of Islamic-based schools. This study aims to analyze the influence of the leadership of the madrasah head and teacher work discipline on the effectiveness of implementing Islamic legal values at MTs Nurul Huda Jakarta. Using a quantitative approach with survey design, data were collected from 60 teachers through questionnaires and analyzed using multiple regression. The results show that both leadership and work discipline significantly affect the implementation of Islamic legal values, with teacher discipline having a stronger influence (β = 0.6581) than leadership (β = 0.4509). Together, both variables explain 65.8% of the variance (R² = 0.658), indicating that the research hypotheses are accepted. These findings strengthen the theoretical perspective that effective leadership and consistent teacher discipline are critical in realizing Sharia-based education management. Academically, this research contributes empirical evidence to the field of Islamic education management, while practically, it provides insights for improving leadership strategies, teacher professionalism, and policy support for value-based schools.

Abstract

This study aims to strengthen school management and improve educational quality through the implementation of the Islamic Model Class (IMC) at SD Yayasan Pupuk Kaltim (YPK) in Bontang, Indonesia. Utilizing a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach integrated with Total Quality Management (TQM) principles, the study engaged key school stakeholders principals, teachers, parents, and community leaders in identifying challenges and co-developing strategic solutions. Initial findings revealed significant gaps in curriculum alignment, teacher competence in Islamic pedagogy, and the absence of monitoring tools. Through collaborative Focus Group Discussions, targeted interventions were designed, including teacher training, spiritual culture reinforcement, and parental engagement programs. Implementation of these strategies resulted in improved integration of Islamic values into teaching practices, enhanced student character development, and increased stakeholder involvement. The study concludes that the PAR-TQM framework provides an effective model for sustainable educational reform in Islamic-based schools by fostering collaboration, continuous evaluation, and value-based leadership.

Abstract

The urgency of applying deep learning approaches in Islamic Religious Education (IRE) is increasingly relevant in the digital age, which demands meaningful and character-building learning, not just memorization. This study aims to analyze the opportunities and challenges of implementing deep learning approaches in the context of IRE in Indonesia. Using qualitative methods with a case study approach and thematic analysis of the perspectives of IRE teachers, this study explores the perceptions, practices, and obstacles encountered in the implementation process. The results show that teachers generally welcome this approach positively because it is considered capable of enhancing creativity and the relevance of IRE values to real life. However, its implementation is still hampered by limited resources, low conceptual understanding, resistance to paradigm shifts, and a lack of ongoing training. Further analysis reveals the alignment between the principles of meaningful, mindful, and joyful learning with Islamic values such as tafakkur, akhlak, and ibadah in the learning process. In conclusion, the application of deep learning in PAI requires synergy between teachers, educational institutions, and policymakers to optimize the integration of spiritual values with modern pedagogical methods. This study recommends strengthening teacher capacity and adaptive curriculum policies as strategic steps towards a more holistic and contextual transformation of PAI learning.

Abstract

The urgency of transparency and accountability in the management of School Operational Assistance Funds (BOS) has increased in line with public demands for clean and effective education governance, especially in island regions with limited facilities, human resources, and access to technology. This study aims to examine strategies for implementing transparency and accountability in the management of BOS based on Education Reports in schools in island regions. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using triangulation techniques to ensure the validity of the findings. The results show that transparency is realized through open budget information, RKAS socialization, and periodic reporting, while accountability is reflected in transaction recording, internal verification, external audits, and the use of the ARKAS application. The main obstacles include low human resource capacity, minimal digital infrastructure, and a lack of understanding of the Education Report Card system. Strategic efforts were made through internal training, collaboration with the community, and budget priorities for improving literacy, numeracy, and teacher professional development. In conclusion, the integration of BOS and the Education Report Card contributed to improving the effectiveness of fund use, learning quality, and public trust, making it a suitable model for education fund management in 3T areas.
