Abstract

This research explores the role of local wisdom in reducing morbidity and mortality among children under five through health promotion strategies using a systematic literature review approach. Local wisdom, which includes knowledge, practices and traditions passed down from generation to generation, has been proven to have a significant contribution in increasing the effectiveness of health interventions by adapting health programs to the community's cultural context. This study analyzes how local wisdom is applied in various health promotion strategies, including community empowerment, social support, and advocacy. The findings show that the integration of local wisdom in health programs can increase community acceptance and participation, and has the potential to reduce infant mortality and morbidity rates. However, this study also identified limitations in the existing literature, including variability in study quality and data limitations. Recommendations for policy and practice include developing local wisdom-based programs, training health workers, partnerships with community leaders, and ongoing evaluation. This research makes an important contribution to understanding how local wisdom-based approaches can be integrated to achieve better health outcomes.

Abstract

Culturally adapted health education plays a crucial role in reducing child mortality in vulnerable communities with diverse cultural backgrounds. This article conducts a systematic review of existing literature to evaluate the effectiveness of health education models adapted to local cultural contexts. Through a systematic literature review approach, this research identifies and synthesizes scientific evidence regarding the impact of cultural adaptation models on child health outcomes. Key findings show that interventions that take into account community-specific cultural values and practices have a significant positive impact on reducing child mortality. However, the effectiveness of this model is highly dependent on the extent to which cultural elements are integrated in health education strategies and implementation contexts. This article provides practical implications for policy makers, health practitioners, and researchers, and identifies research gaps that need further exploration. Recommendations for future research include longitudinal studies, broader context-based research, and integration of qualitative methods to increase understanding of cultural adaptation in health education.

Abstract

Bullying is a widespread issue that significantly affects the mental health of adolescents, particularly in Indonesia. The link between bullying and self-harm behaviors among adolescents has raised concerns, yet a comprehensive understanding of this relationship in the Indonesian context is lacking. To explore the effect of bullying on increasing the incidence of self-harm among adolescents in Indonesia, mapping existing literature and identifying research gaps. A scoping review was conducted following the PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews) guidelines. Studies were identified from the database Scopus using the PCC (Population, Concept, Context) framework. The review focused on studies examining the relationship between bullying (physical, verbal, and cyberbullying) and self-harm among adolescents aged 12-18 in Indonesia. The studies included were (n= 6) from 93 publications with search terms. The findings reveal that bullying is a significant factor contributing to increased self-harm behaviors among Indonesian adolescents. Various forms of bullying, including physical, verbal, and cyberbullying, were consistently linked to emotional distress, depression, and self-harm. The lack of adequate social and familial support further exacerbates these behaviors. However, research specifically focusing on cultural factors and long-term effects of bullying on self-harm in Indonesia remains sparse. Bullying plays a critical role in increasing the incidence of self-harm among Indonesian adolescents. This review highlights the need for more in-depth studies on the socio-cultural context of bullying in Indonesia and the development of preventive strategies and mental health interventions to mitigate its impact.

Abstract

Access to maternal healthcare remains a critical challenge for women living in urban slums of developing megacities. Rapid urbanization has created densely populated informal settlements with inadequate sanitation, limited healthcare infrastructure, and high maternal mortality. This study systematically reviews social, economic, and structural barriers to maternal healthcare access. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, 19 peer-reviewed articles (2010–2025) were analyzed using thematic coding guided by the Social Determinants of Health and Andersen Behavioral Model. Findings reveal that restrictive gender norms, stigma, and low health literacy limit utilization, while poverty, high transportation costs, and lack of insurance further impede access. Structural challenges, including insufficient facilities, poor transport, and non-inclusive policies, exacerbate inequities. These barriers interact, creating compounded challenges for women in urban slums. Addressing them requires integrated interventions, including financial support, community-based services, inclusive digital health solutions, and policy reforms. The study provides evidence-based insights to enhance maternal health equity and advance Sustainable Development Goal 3.

Abstract

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) represent a significant reproductive health issue among adolescents both globally and in Indonesia, with particularly high prevalence among individuals aged 15–24 years. Adolescent knowledge of STIs remains limited, and previous studies have often overlooked psychosocial and contextual factors that mediate the relationship between sexual literacy and STI prevention behaviors. This study aims to analyze the extent to which sexual literacy influences STI prevention behaviors among adolescents and to identify the mediating roles of attitudes, self-efficacy, and access to sexual health information. This study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach based on the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Data were collected from the Scopus and Web of Science databases, applying inclusion criteria of empirical articles published in English or Indonesian between 2010–2025, focusing on sexual literacy, STI prevention behaviors, and adolescent populations. Data analysis was conducted using thematic coding and thematic synthesis. Findings revealed that sexual literacy significantly influences STI prevention behaviors, including condom use, routine testing, and open communication. Positive attitudes toward sexual health, high self-efficacy in sexual decision-making, and access to accurate information play crucial mediating roles. The study also confirmed the dominant use of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and the Health Belief Model (HBM) as theoretical frameworks. Sexual literacy, mediated by attitudes, self-efficacy, and access to information, is a strong predictor of STI prevention behaviors among adolescents. These findings provide an empirical foundation for developing more comprehensive and targeted sexual education programs, taking into account psychosocial and contextual factors to enhance the effectiveness of interventions.
