Abstract

Introduction: Infant mortality rate serves as a critical indicator in assessing population health, reflecting the overall well-being of a community. Foetal development is influenced by multiple determinants, including maternal health, foetal factors, and environmental conditions. When pregnant women are exposed to cigarette smoke as passive smokers, the toxic chemical constituents present in tobacco smoke can disrupt pregnancy outcomes. An early detection method to evaluate foetal growth involves estimating foetal weight through clinical examination. Method: This study aims to analyse the characteristics of pregnant women exposed to secondhand smoke in relation to estimated foetal weight in Kepahiang Regency. This research employs an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and uterine fundal height measurements, with a total sample size of 72 pregnant women. Results: The analysis revealed no statistically significant association between household cigarette smoke exposure (p = 0.722), duration of secondhand smoke exposure (p = 0.497), or urinary cotinine levels (p = 1.000) and estimated foetal weight. Conclusion: These findings suggest that maternal exposure to secondhand smoke may not necessarily influence estimated foetal weight, as other confounding factors could play a more dominant role in foetal growth.

Abstract

Introduction: The natural process of aging is accompanied by a decline in physical, psychological, and social conditions that work together to create problems from chronic illnesses, weakness from reduced function of various body organs, and problems with day-to-day activities. Stroke is among the health issues that older adults frequently face. Hemorrhagic and non-hemorrhagic strokes are the two types of strokes. Method: The purpose of this study is to ascertain how much family support affects an older adults' ability to carry out daily activities independently after suffering a stroke. Selected articles from the literature are reviewed and used in this study. Results: Participants discussed two themes regarding the impact of family support: enhancing the quality of life for older adults following a stroke and providing support for older adults to remain independent with their ADLs. Having optimal family support will cause stroke sufferers to become independent in carrying out activities, but if there is no family support, stroke patients will become dependent on other people to fulfill their ADLs. Conclusion: There is no family support, stroke patients will become dependent on other people to fulfill their ADLs.

Abstract

Introduction: Aging is a natural biological process in humans. Skin aging can be caused by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. These factors lead to visible signs of aging, such as facial wrinkles, reduced elasticity, and changes in skin texture. Extrinsic aging is associated with environmental factors and is characterized by thinning of the epidermis and fine lines. In contrast, intrinsic aging, which is primarily caused by sun exposure, is marked by deep wrinkles, sagging skin, and hyperpigmentation. Flavonoids in green tea play a role in reducing free radicals, which are one of the main triggers of skin aging. Method: This study used a literature review method based on selected articles discussing the relationship between green tea and skin aging prevention. Results: The review identified three main themes from the selected articles, indicating that green tea has a positive effect in preventing skin aging. Conclusion: Based on the literature review, it can be concluded that green tea has beneficial effects in preventing skin aging. The antioxidant content, particularly flavonoids, helps reduce the impact of free radicals, which are major contributors to the aging process. Therefore, green tea can be considered a natural option to support skin health and delay visible signs of aging.

Abstract

Introduction: Otitis media is inflammation of part or all of the middle ear mucosa, Eustachian tube, mastoid antrum, and mastoid cells. Treatment that can be given to otitis media is by using antibiotics. However, herbal medicine can also be used. Method: This research is secondary research using the literature review method. Results: The use of herbal ingredients such as ginger, tebel-tebel (Hoya carnosa), and ethanol extract of kaffir lime (Citrus hystrix) turned out to be effective and has strong antifungal and/or antibacterial properties. However, binahong (Anredera cordifolia) leaf extract was not effective against bacteria, the antibacterial activity showed a weak inhibitory response, with an average inhibitory area diameter (DDH) of 0.00 mm. Conclusion: Overall, several herbal medicines showed great potential as alternatives to antibiotics, except for binahong leaf extract which was less effective. Further studies are needed to strengthen the results and clinical applications.

Abstract

Introduction: Diffquick dying is one the methods of cytological dying. The diffquick method’s components is methylene blue. Methylene blue is toxic and non-biogradable so it requires natural dyes that do not have harmful properties for the body. Clitoria ternatea is a natural colorant that has an anthocyanin content and produces blue pigment and has been tested to color the nucleus of epithelial cells. Method: This research for the influence of temperature factors and long storage of the solution of clit extract as a nutarl colour subtitutes for methylene blue in the coloring of nucleus cells diffquick method. Research design is experimental with purposive sampling. The research was conducted in January-March 2024 at the sitohistotechnology laboratory. Results: The Mann whitney (sig.) test result 1.0>0.05 or H0 was received so there was no difference in the core color power of the cell with a 16% concentration of oak flower extract stored at 7-11⁰C dan 25⁰C as a substitute for the methylene blue dye in diffquick dyeing. Conclusion: This shows that there is no difference in the color power of the cell from the solution of the butterfly pea extract that are stored at showcase and room temperature.

Abstract

Introduction: An inflammatory condition affecting the gastric mucosa is called gastritis. This inflammation can cause swelling of the gastric mucosa to the detachment of the superficial mucosal epithelium which is the most important cause of disorders in the digestive system. Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience due to actual and potential tissue damage. Deep breathing relaxation is intended to reduce muscle tension, and anxiety to prevent increased pain stimuli, as one method of pain management. Method: Selected articles from the literature are reviewed and used in this study. Results: This scoping review shows that from 7 articles that meet the inclusion and 5 supporting articles that have been reviewed, deep breathing relaxation therapy has an effect on reducing the pain scale. Conclusion: Based on several explanations that have been put forward, that providing breathing relaxation therapy used for the process of pain management is very helpful in relieving the pain experienced by patients, therefore facilitating the healing process and this technique is very easy to do independently by patients. Conclusion: Deep breathing relaxation techniques are effective in reducing pain intensity in gastritis patients, so they can be included in nursing interventions in the nursing diagnosis of pain comfort disorders.
