Abstract

This research investigates the significant impact of cultural transformation in South Buton Regency on the learning dynamics of elementary school students. As a region deeply rooted in maritime heritage and traditional Sultanate values, South Buton currently faces a cultural shift due to rapid modernization and digital globalization. The primary problem addressed is the erosion of local ethics and social characters among the younger generation, which directly influences pedagogical outcomes in formal education. Using a qualitative descriptive method with a field study approach, data were gathered through comprehensive observations and interviews with educators and local community leaders. The results reveal that while students demonstrate improved proficiency in digital literacy and technology use, there is a marked decline in the practice of traditional character-based interactions and local wisdom. The study concludes that integrating local values into the school curriculum is essential to maintain cultural identity while embracing modern education.

Abstract

This article discusses the integration of Christian theology into Christian teaching and education practices using the concept of “being a light in the classroom” as a theological and pedagogical framework. Christian education is understood not only as a process of knowledge transfer, but as an effort to form a whole person encompassing intellectual, moral, spiritual, and social dimensions. This article aims to examine the theological basis of the concept of the light of the world, the role of Christian teachers as agents of transformation, the integration of Christian theological values in learning strategies and methods, and the challenges and opportunities for Christian education in the context of contemporary education. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method of relevant and credible Indonesian-language theology and Christian education literature. The analysis was conducted descriptively and interpretively to identify theological principles that can be applied in educational practice. The results of the study indicate that the theology of the light of the world provides a strong foundation for Christian education in delivering meaningful and transformative learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the significant impact of cultural changes occurring in Baubau City on the learning process at the elementary school level. As the urban center and former seat of the Buton Sultanate, Baubau City faces a critical shift in local wisdom values. The primary issue addressed is the erosion of the tradition of politeness (poma-maa-maa) and the declining use of the Wolio regional language, both of which are being marginalized by modernization and the intensive use of digital technology by students. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, utilizing participatory observation, in-depth interviews with educators, and an analysis of local content curriculum documents. The findings indicate that cultural transformation significantly impacts the decline of discipline based on local values and reduces students' understanding of their cultural identity as heirs to the Sultanate's legacy. Conversely, these changes present opportunities for integrating dynamic digital-based learning media. In conclusion, there is an urgent need to reconstruct the local content curriculum to harmonize technological advancement with the preservation of noble Butonian values, ensuring the progressive development of educational theory and practice in Baubau City.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of cultural change in South Buton Regency on the learning process in elementary schools. The aim is to understand how globalization, modernization, and foreign cultural influences influence traditional values, teaching methods, and student behavior in elementary schools. Using a qualitative approach through interviews, observations, and document analysis, the study found that cultural shifts lead to the loss of local traditions but also introduce innovative educational approaches. The findings suggest that cultural erosion creates challenges in preserving identity but also encourages adaptability and inclusivity in learning. This implies the need to integrate local culture into the curriculum to balance modernization with cultural heritage. The study also emphasizes the importance of inclusive education that combines digital technology with traditional values to increase student motivation and reduce social disparities in rural areas. Furthermore, the study reveals that these changes shape students' character to face global challenges such as digital competition. By focusing on curriculum adaptation, the study provides insights into the role of schools as agents of positive change, promoting cultural tolerance and innovation. The results highlight the need for collaboration between teachers, parents, and the community to maintain local identity while embracing external influences.

Abstract

Multicultural ethnography in the context of acculturation is an in-depth qualitative research method (ethnography) that focuses on understanding how different cultural groups interact, adapt, and influence each other (acculturation) in a multicultural society. This approach not only describes a single culture in isolation, but also examines the dynamics of social interaction, identity negotiation, and cultural change that often occur when immigrant and ethnic groups meet and live together in the same community. From an Islamic perspective, multicultural ethnography in the issue of acculturation also examines how Islamic teachings interact, adapt, and blend with local cultures without losing their original identity. This approach views Islam as a universal religion, which can be interpreted as a religion that is rahmatan lil 'alamin (a blessing for the universe) by upholding the value of diversity as sunnatullah. Thus, through ethnographic studies, the process of acculturation can be seen in everyday life in the archipelago, resulting in distinctive, inclusive, and moderate forms of Islam.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country rich in ethnicities, customs, religions and cultures. This wealth is a source of pride if it is managed well, but on the other hand, differences can easily lead to friction that can cause prolonged hostility. Multicultural education is one of the efforts to instil a character of peace and inclusiveness towards every difference. Multicultural Islamic education is education that places multiculturalism as one of its educational visions with the main characteristics of being inclusive, egalitarian, democratic, and humanistic, while remaining firm in its spiritual values and beliefs based on the Qur'an and hadith. Thus, the core or substance of multicultural Islamic education is the willingness to accept other people or groups equally as a whole, regardless of differences in culture, ethnicity, gender, language, religion, and so on. Multicultural education is the answer to instilling multicultural values in students in order to create harmony, tolerance, and mutual respect in a diverse society.

Abstract

Christian Religious Education (CRE) faces complex challenges in the post-modern era characterized by relativism of truth and spiritual identity crisis. This research explores the integration of eschatological understanding in Christian character formation through qualitative methods with a library research approach. Findings indicate that balanced eschatological understanding positively correlates with spiritual vigilance, moral integrity, psychological resilience, and mission engagement. However, contemporary CRE practices reveal critical gaps: fragmentation of eschatological content, dominance of cognitive-doctrinal approaches, and limited educator competence. The research proposes a holistic integration model that positions eschatology as a theological framework integrating the entire curriculum and adopts transformative pedagogy balancing cognitive, affective, and praxis dimensions. This model is designed to address sensationalist eschatological distortions, develop "eschatological imagination" that enables the post-modern generation to live with transformative hope, and form mature Christian character within the "already-not yet" tension of inaugurated eschatology. Integration of eschatology in CRE is not merely doctrinal transfer, but spiritual formation that empowers believers to become agents of renewal in the "space between" incarnation and Parousia.
