Abstract

The mental health of university students has become an important concern escalated by pandemic-related stresses and insights into effective therapy for this population is needed. Participants (n 389) completed a survey indicating preferences regarding seeing a therapist employing methods reflecting one of three established schools of thought: psychoanalytic, person-centered, or cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Analysis of results indicated that the CBT approach was the most popular method. However, when participants reacted to hypothetical dilemmas, there was evidence of some departure from the method students selected as their original preference. The CBT approach was more persistently chosen by participants who indicated an initial preference for that method. Demographic differences are reported. Commentary is offered on why college-aged participants might vary in their preferences for treatment styles and why so many maintain a propensity for CBT.

Abstract

This research aims to reveal how piil pesenggikhi develops and becomes a family parenting pattern for the Lampung people. Piil pesenggikhi is taught by parents from early childhood through the family environment. However, immoral behaviours are still committed by children from Lampung community families. The problem formulation presented is how parents teach their children these values for early childhood moral development. This research uses qualitative methods to examine Lampung community families and traditional Lampung elders. Researchers found a specific identity from the values of piil pesenggikhi, including nemui nyimah, juluk adok, nengah nyappor, and sakai sambayan. Through these values, early childhood moral development is carried out through learning that prioritizes respect, courtesy, hospitality, acceptance of differences, perseverance, and teaching children to help each other.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to show how political discourse has influenced the introduction of free-of-charge Basic Education (FFBE) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) during the 2019-2020 school year, following President Félix Tshisekedi's election promise. This article analyses the link between political utterances on free-of-charge decision and their implementation in the provision of public services. The paper is based on an assemblage framework to analyse stakeholders in FFBE implementation. Using press articles and secondary data from official reports, we found that the obstacles in implementing FFBE may be explained by the need for a properly concise public policy about free education, the mismanagement of different stakeholders, the lack of transparency and economic constraints. The population concerned is all the stakeholders in the education system in the DCR. To arrive at our conclusion, we used the assemblage method. In DRC, the promise of FFBE faces significant challenges, notably funding shortages, inadequate infrastructure, and a lack of trained teachers. The economic instability in the region hampers government investment in educational resources, often resulting in fees being imposed by schools despite official policies promoting free education. Future research could focus on innovative funding models, such as community-based initiatives or partnerships, to enhance educational delivery. Additionally, exploring the impact of digital learning tools could provide insights into bridging educational gaps, especially in remote areas where access to traditional schooling is limited.

Abstract

To improve the mental well-being of adolescents is that there is no intention to seek psychological help. This study aims to explore the relationship between public stigma, self-stigma, and the intention to seek psychological help among adolescents who are educated in Madrasas. The method used in this study is quantitative with a cross-section design. This study involved 580 participants, who were invited using convenience and snowball sampling methods. The instruments used were cultural orientation, self-public, social-network stigma, attitudes towards seeking help, intention to seek counseling, and demographic questions. The main findings suggest that adolescents who experience high levels of public stigma tend to have higher levels of self-stigma, which further influences their intention to seek help (psychologically). In addition, cultural orientation also shapes perceptions and attitudes toward seeking counseling help. The findings of this study highlight the urgent need for targeted interventions to reduce public stigma against mental health problems, which can be provided by educational institutions, mental health organizations, as well as governments to create an environment that supports the mental well-being of adolescents.

Abstract

This paper reviewed some project initiatives on inclusive and equitable use of artificial intelligence (Al) in education with a view of guiding education policy-makers and stakeholders in the development of similar project initiatives in Nigeria. The gap in extant literature on policy direction for the development of inclusive and equitable use of Al in education in Nigeria necessitated the paper. It began with a discussion of the general overview of Al and the unprecedented revolution it has created in the education delivery. It further discussed the advantages of the Al application in education as well as the challenges and controversies associated with it particularly the generative Al (GenAl) systems which are rapidly spreading in the education sector. It also discussed UNESCO’s recommendations of the appropriate use of GenAl in education to genuinely benefit and empower teachers, learners and researchers. It advocated the necessity of Nigerian government to develop a policy framework for the responsible use of GenAl in education and research. Most importantly, the paper identified some large-scale project initiatives on inclusive and equitable use of Al in education and discussed the lessons derivable from the project initiatives for policy direction in the development of similar projects in Nigeria. The paper recommended, among others, special funding on the development of inclusive and equitable Al apps in the education budgetary allocation and private sector partnership/collaboration in funding in the development of such Al apps.
