Abstract

This study aims to analyze the process of forming environmentally friendly santri (Islamic boarding school students) habits through spiritual discipline at Pesantren Hidayatul Mubtadiin in Pamekasan. Using a qualitative ethnographic approach with participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document study techniques, this research reveals that ecological awareness is built through the organic integration of Sufi practices (riyadhah) and daily actions. The findings indicate that rituals such as congregational prayer, dhikr (remembrance of God), fasting, and ascetic practices (tirakat) function as vehicles for value internalization, constructing nature as a manifestation of God's signs that must be preserved. These values are then incorporated through the repetition of bodily actions, giving rise to automatic practical habits in waste management, water conservation, and organic farming. Ecological awareness is not taught separately but is woven into a web of meaning connecting environmental jurisprudence (such as the prohibition of israf/wastefulness), Sufi ethics (heart purification), and narratives of tawhid (divine unity) regarding the oneness of creation. This study concludes by proposing the "Tarbiyah Ruhiyah-Lingkungan" (Spiritual-Environmental Education) model, a synthesis of education that emphasizes spiritual transformation as the foundation for sustainable behavior. This model offers an alternative perspective from the pesantren tradition, where resilient ecological consciousness is formed through a holistic approach integrating spiritual, bodily, and communal dimensions, contributing to the discourse on environmental education and the anthropology of religion.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of a transit dormitory (pondok transit) as a model of the Islamic Religious Education environment for non-resident students at Nurul Islam Islamic Boarding School, Karangcempaka Bluto, Sumenep. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study design to gain an in-depth understanding of the educational practices taking place within the transit dormitory environment. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with pesantren caregivers, teachers, and students, as well as documentation of educational activities conducted in the transit dormitory. Data analysis was carried out through the processes of data reduction, data display, and interpretative conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the transit dormitory functions as an educational transition space bridging formal education in madrasah and Qur’anic learning in pesantren institutions. Its presence not only fulfills students’ physical needs, such as meals, rest, and a safe environment, but also serves as a medium for spiritual development through congregational prayers, Qur’an recitation, and memorization review activities. Furthermore, the transit dormitory contributes to the development of religious character, discipline, and social cohesion among students through structured religious routines and social interactions. This study formulates a model of an Islamic educational environment based on the transit dormitory that integrates physical, spiritual, and academic dimensions in a holistic and sustainable framework for non-resident students.

Abstract

Massive urbanization in Indonesian metropolitan areas presents distinct challenges for cultivating religious life among professional communities. This study examines the da'wah strategy of Masjid An-Nur Menara Mandiri Sudirman Jakarta as a representative corporate mosque operating within a Central Business District (CBD) environment. Employing a qualitative approach through intensive case study methodology, data were gathered over six months via participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentary analysis. Three principal findings emerged. First, program planning is conducted through a participatory need assessment mechanism, producing an integrated da'wah ecosystem. Second, program implementation contextually applies the Qur'anic principles of al-hikmah, al-mau'izhah al-hasanah, and al-mujadalah bil-ahsan, supplemented by methodological innovations encompassing professional da'wah, spiritual mentoring, and transformative community formation. Third, program effectiveness is sustained by institutional support, da'i quality, digital infrastructure, and community cohesion, yet constrained by temporal limitations, congregation heterogeneity, and digital content competition. This study contributes a corporate da'wah model that holistically integrates theological, sociological, and managerial dimensions, offering an evidence-based reference for mosque management in major Indonesian urban centers.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a love-based curriculum model integrated with Islamic digitalization to support Islamic education learning in the Society 5.0 era. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach consisting of needs analysis, conceptual design, expert validation, limited implementation, revision, and final model formulation. The results of the needs analysis showed that Islamic education still faces challenges in balancing character formation with the rapid development of digital technology. Therefore, a curriculum model that integrates compassion-based pedagogy, Islamic ethical values, and responsible digital learning is required. The developed model emphasizes value-based objectives, humanistic learning strategies, Islamic digital media, and character-based assessment. Validation results indicated that the model is conceptually appropriate and applicable in Islamic education settings. Limited implementation demonstrated that the model improves students’ moral awareness, responsible digital behavior, and active participation in learning. The model also contributes to the goals of sustainable education by promoting quality learning, ethical digital literacy, and social responsibility. This study concludes that the integration of a love-based curriculum with Islamic digitalization can serve as an alternative framework for developing adaptive, humanistic, and value-oriented Islamic education in the Society 5.0 era.

Abstract

This investigation explores the conceptual framework of organic state architecture as it applies to educational governance, centering on the shift away from rigid, hierarchically imposed bureaucratic arrangements toward more responsive systems energized by grassroots-level initiatives within educational practice. Conventional educational structures have historically been marked by centrally concentrated decision-making authority, uniformly applied policy mandates, and layered governance hierarchies that routinely suppress local creativity and adaptive capacity. In contrast, the organic state paradigm foregrounds systemic flexibility, governance rooted in broad participation, and the genuine empowerment of frontline actors—including classroom teachers, surrounding communities, and educational institutions themselves as the primary engines of meaningful change. Drawing on a qualitative and conceptual analytical framework, this study investigates the extent to which decentralization strategies and community-anchored initiatives can cultivate education reforms that are both contextually grounded and durably sustainable. The evidence suggests that innovation originating from the ground level heightens the real-world relevance of policy, encourages shared problem-solving among stakeholders, and elevates learning outcomes by ensuring that policy directions resonate with actual local circumstances and needs. Beyond this, the organic model nurtures iterative feedback loops connecting policymakers with field practitioners, thereby enabling ongoing systemic adjustment in response to evolving social, technological, and cultural conditions. Nonetheless, the movement toward an organic state architecture is not without its complications, encompassing challenges such as inter-agency coordination difficulties, uneven distribution of local institutional capacity, and the imperative to establish credible accountability frameworks.

Abstract

In the digital age, cyber media has become a strategic platform for the dissemination of information, knowledge, and religious values. This study examines the role of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of DKI Jakarta in optimizing cyber media as a tool for Islamic preaching and education. This study aims to examine the optimization of cyber media as an instrument for Islamic da’wah and education by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of DKI Jakarta. The research method employs a descriptive-analytical qualitative approach, with the research location at the MUI DKI Jakarta secretariat office and its digital ecosystem, encompassing the official website, social media accounts, and online content channels. The results indicate that the MUI of DKI Jakarta has implemented a digital transformation encompassing three main dimensions: digital infrastructure development, multi-platform content management, and human resource capacity building. The utilization of social media platforms and the official website has proven to expand the reach of da’wah and enhance access to Islamic education for urban communities. An editorial mechanism based on verification by religious scholars is implemented to ensure the accuracy of religious information. Nevertheless, this study identified several challenges, including a digital skills gap, fragmentation of religious authority, and reliance on third-party platforms. Therefore, the Jakarta MUI needs to strengthen its collaborative ecosystem and diversify the digital infrastructure of religious institutions.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of psychological principles into digital daʿwah strategies as an effective medium for Islamic education in the modern era. The rapid development of social media and digital technology has transformed the way religious messages are delivered and received, particularly among younger audiences. By incorporating psychological approaches such as understanding audience behavior, motivation, emotional engagement, and cognitive processes, digital daʿwah can become more persuasive, relevant, and impactful. This research employs a qualitative approach through systematic literature review and analysis of contemporary digital daʿwah practices. The findings suggest that the application of psychology in content design, communication style, and message framing enhances audience engagement and facilitates deeper understanding of Islamic teachings. Furthermore, digital platforms offer interactive and accessible spaces that support continuous learning and spiritual development. The integration of psychology into digital daʿwah strategies plays a crucial role in strengthening Islamic education by making it more adaptive, engaging, and responsive to the needs of the digital generation. This approach not only improves the effectiveness of daʿwah but also contributes to the formation of positive attitudes and behaviors aligned with Islamic values.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and examine a holistic framework integrating multicultural Islamic education, a love-based curriculum, and deep learning to enhance students’ character and empathy in Indonesian madrasahs. Using a mixed-methods sequential explanatory design, quantitative data were collected through pre-test and post-test surveys, while qualitative data were obtained via classroom observations and in-depth interviews. The findings reveal a significant improvement in students’ empathy and character, supported by statistical analysis (p < 0.001). The integration of compassionate values within a multicultural and reflective learning environment fosters meaningful learning experiences and strengthens social awareness. Furthermore, the study identifies a novel integrative model that combines cognitive, affective, and social dimensions in a unified pedagogical approach. This model contributes both theoretically, by enriching the discourse on Islamic education, and practically, by offering an adaptable framework for curriculum development in madrasahs. The study highlights the urgency of transforming traditional instructional approaches into more humanistic, inclusive, and contextually relevant practices.

Abstract

This conceptual study aims to develop a theoretical framework examining how moderate Islamic pedagogy can reduce prejudice within multicultural societies. Through systematic library research analyzing 127 sources including peer-reviewed journal articles, scholarly books, and policy documents, this study identifies four primary pedagogical mechanisms synthesized into the "Moderate Islamic Pedagogy for Prejudice Reduction" (MIPPR) model. The findings demonstrate that embodied pedagogy teachers' enactment of moderation values through daily actions constitutes the most dominant mechanism (38.2% of studies supporting), surpassing the influence of formal curriculum. Sacred texts possess a dual role: becoming sources of inclusivity when taught through contextual-reinterpretive approaches, yet reinforcing exclusivist prejudice when taught through literal-decontextual approaches. Classroom ecology providing optimal contact conditions (equal status, cooperation, institutional support) significantly moderates moderate education's positive effects on prejudice reduction. Teacher identity particularly reflective awareness of personal biases serves as a crucial mediating variable between training and student learning outcomes. The MIPPR model offers an empirically testable framework with practical implications for curriculum development, teacher training, and classroom ecology design in Islamic schools. This study contributes to integrating Islamic education theory, social psychology, and multicultural pedagogy.

Abstract

The relationship between kiai and santri at Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Madura represents a strategically significant social phenomenon for academic inquiry, given the profound influence of the kiai in shaping the character, values, and identity of santri with broad implications for Madurese social order. Nevertheless, the dynamics of this relationship have not been fully explored through adequate theoretical frameworks, particularly from a symbolic interactionism perspective. This study aims to identify interactional symbols in the kiai-santri relationship, describe the internalization of pesantren values through symbolic media and examine the construction of santri identity as a product of meaning negotiation in interaction with the kiai. This research employs a qualitative approach with an ethnographic design, conducted at three pesantren in Pamekasan and Sumenep Regencies, Madura, through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentary study. The findings reveal three key outcomes: first, kiai charisma is socially constructed through material, linguistic, and ritualistic symbols; second, pesantren values are internalized through symbolic pedagogy encompassing ngaji practice, collective obedience rituals, and body language; and third, santri identity is formed through three phases adoption, negotiation, and consolidation resulting in a hybrid identity. This research contributes to the development of pesantren sociology grounded in Mead and Blumer's symbolic interactionism theory.
