Abstract

Pandemic era forced Indonesia’s society to faced social change that shown shifting roles in family division. However, househusband’s existence become a problem due to its role ambiguity that against patriarchal gender norms. On the other hand, this ambiguity become an interesting aspect on an anime called The Way of the Househusband. This anime served unique representation of a househusband that utilize Yakuza way to do his role which attract many Indonesian audiences. The aim of this research is to find audiences’ reception towards construction of househusband in this anime. This research conducted codes of television to analyses the anime and then interpret audiences’ reception using Hall’s decoding positions. Preferred reading of this anime represents characteristics of a househusband and humanity side of Yakuza. Ideology of this anime wanted to normalize men that capable on homemaking roles and offered househusband as an alternative role. This research able to found various reception of young adults’ audiences. They accepted househusband as a well-function role in homemaking. Some audiences open possibilities to be a househusband or have a househusband as a partner. Although, audiences prefer to become a double-income couple. The construction of an ex-Yakuza househusband characteristics is able to be accepted by audiences as an ideal type of a househusband. However, some audiences perceived househusband task is not realistic due to perception that homemaking is a collaborative role for each family members. Audiences also accepted the ideology that put househusband and salaryman in the same place, their difference only on their role, traits, and knowledge about house and family matters. Research findings shown role tunning pattern that uncover how audiences’ attitudes towards househusband’s role is affected by conversation’s context and how well audiences recognize the person who’s a househusband.

Abstract

PT Djarum is one of the largest cigarette companies in Indonesia (Djarum, 2022). The media has reported that cigarette products are harmful. However, the media has also reported that the Djarum Group has a positive impact through their corporate social responsibility and business diversification efforts. This research was conducted with the aim of determining the influence of media news exposure about the company and perceptions of the company's social responsibility on the reputation perception of the Djarum Group using survey research methods. The theory used in this research is Attribution Theory. The sampling technique used was non-probability sampling. A total of 200 respondents from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University, were selected as the research sample. Based on hypothesis testing, perceptions of the company's social responsibility influence the reputation perception of the Djarum Group. Media news exposure about the company does not affect the reputation perception of the Djarum Group. The perception of social responsibility has a 19.4 percent influence on the perception of the Djarum Group's reputation. Perceivers compare various information about the company's social responsibility and evaluate the consequences or outcomes of the observed company's behavior (Jones & Davis, 1965; Kelley & Michela, 1980). Furthermore, perceivers consider consensus, which refers to the extent to which other companies take certain actions in a situation, observations of the Djarum Group's repetitive behavior in certain or other situations, distinctiveness, and consistency, or the repetition of the Djarum Group's behavior over time in specific situations. Therefore, this information can ultimately influence an individual's perception of the company's reputation.

Abstract

Differences in hearing conditions and ways of communication in the committed romantic relationship of Deaf-hearing couples encourage individuals to conduct adjustments and apply relationship maintenance behaviors to achieve the desired ideal point of the relationship. On the other hand, these differences have the potential to cause miscommunication and conflict in Deaf-hearing couples. This study aims to understand the maintenance in committed romantic relationships of Deaf-hearing couples and to describe the conflicts, dialectics, and the conflict resolution in committed romantic relationships. The theories that are used in this research are Relational Dialectics Theory and Equity Theory. This study uses the interpretive paradigm with a phenomenological approach and data collection method of in-depth interviews conducted with six individuals from three Deaf-hearing couples. The result of this study reveals that the communication adjustments made by Deaf and hearing individuals in their relationships take place from the development until maintenance stage of the relationships. Each individual accomodates their partner’s way of communication by using verbal communication and sign language in daily communication context. Each Deaf-hearing couple apply relationship maintenance to achieve the desired ideal relationship, prevent conflicts, and maintain commitment in their marriages. Other than that, the difference in hearing conditions is not the main conflict object but is a cause of miscommunication and small conflicts in Deaf-hearing couples. Conflict resolution in Deaf-hearing couples is conducted through several strategies such as withdrawal, turn-taking, and the involvement of a mediator. Based on the results above, recommendations for future research is to examine how miscommunication arises when hearing partners act as sign language translators, how Deaf individuals sacrifice by prioritizing the use of verbal communication, and to apply mixed methods to study Deaf-hearing committed romantic relationship.

Abstract

This research is based on the emergence of enthusiasm among Generation Z of Indonesia for serial Thai films that raise the issue of homosexuality, while the majority of Indonesian people themselves still often debate the issue of homosexuality. In Indonesia, one of the Thai series with the theme of homosexuality that quite popular is A Tale of Thousand Stars which reach an average number of Indonesian viewers of 1,331,126 viewers. The aim of this research is to see the public's interpretation of homosexuality in the series A Tale of Thousand Stars. This study uses Stuart Hall's reception analysis as a research analysis method to answer the research objectives. The findings of the research conducted on six male and female informants with different ages, religions and cultural backgrounds indicate that various interpretations of homosexuality in A Tale of Thousand Stars the series are obtained which are more inclined to a dominant position. Homosexuality which is shown through aspects of expression of sexual orientation, identity formation, and physical intimacy can be easily accepted by informants because the six informants are Generation Z who use the internet and social media which easily provide access to information related to homosexuality. In addition, there were 2 informants who had friends who were part of a homosexual group, and there was also one informant who was a homosexual. With these various meanings, it means that there has been a shift in meaning towards homosexuality which is exhibited in A Tale of Thousand Stars the series.

Abstract

The interpersonal relationship between athletes and coaches is unique due to the high willingness of both parties to succeed, which requires a good interpersonal relationship. This research aims to determine how the interpersonal relationship between the coach and athletes can influence the motivation of athletes from the Central Java PPLP Swimming team to develop and achieve excellence, as well as identify potential obstacles that may arise in this relationship. The research method used in this study is qualitative descriptive research. The results of this study show that the interpersonal relationship between the coach and athletes of the Central Java PPLP Swimming team is quite good based on the four analyzed aspects: positivity, openness, assurances, and sharing tasks. However, there are issues that arise between the coach and athletes in terms of positivity and openness. The findings of this research are in line with the equity theory, which explains that interpersonal relationships should be based on the equality of effort and rewards so that both athletes and coaches feel satisfied and can work together effectively to achieve their goals. Therefore, both the coach and athletes have a responsibility to address their shortcomings and strengthen the interpersonal relationship.

Abstract

Indonesia has a diversity of ethnic groups, one of which is Chinese. Although people of Chinese descent in Indonesia are Indonesian citizens, the sentiment towards ethnic Chinese can still be felt today. This study aims to understand the background of the choice of institutions made by ethnic Chinese students to continue their studies in college and understand the experience of interaction of ethnic Chinese students in higher education. This research is a qualitative study with Jonathan A. Smith's Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) analysis method which categorizes research results into reading and re-reading, Initial noting, developing emergent themes, searching for connections across emergent themes, and moving the next cases. The main theory used is Co-Culture Theory. The results of this study are (1) the suspicion of other ethnicities is passed down from one generation to another, (2) the suspicion that will be ostracized by non-Chinese ethnicities makes ethnic Chinese choose to continue their studies at private universities.

Abstract

This research aims to find out and explore the experience of Korean cultural imitation in Korean drama series in teenagers. The research method used in this study is a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach. The subjects of this research are adolescents. The theory that is useful as a reference in this research is Modeling Theory by Albert Bandura. From the results of the research conducted on the six informants, they confirmed that they experienced Korean cultural imitation in various Korean drama series. The results of the imitation of the six informants were formed into two cultural categories, namely material culture and nonmaterial culture. Material culture in the form of typical food and typical appearance, and non-material culture in the form of language, and cultural manners in Korea. The results of the imitation are due to the four imitation processes that the six informants went through, namely the attention process, the retention process, the motor reproduction process, and the motivation process. From the four processes of imitation, we can see the types of imitation based on the imitation efforts made by the six informants, namely the types of direct imitation, indirect imitation, combined imitation, momentary imitation, and continuous imitation.

Abstract

Technology of communication is growing from time to time. Nowadays, online media is very helpful for people to get information quickly and widely. Likewise, newspaper companies are currently using social.media as a means of delivering news. One of the social media is Tiktok aplication. It provides some features for making short creative videos and publishing them to public. The visuals of the news published on Tiktok are free and various so that they can attract the number of viewers. Although, the information or news which is delivered must be accurate and prioritize quality of jurnalism and applyi ethich codes of jurnalism well. Therefore, in this study, the author wants to explore how journalism quality on news videos from the official news account on Tiktok is. This research is a qualitative research method with an ethnographic content analysis type. While the data collection technique in this study is in the form of news documentation. There are 30 news videos on 3 official news accounts on Tiktok, namely @kompascom, @liputan6com, and @patroli_indosiar. The results of the study show that the use of journalism style in news videos on Tiktok is applied on the video sampling. Most of these news videos use an inverted pyramid, but their titles are still clickbait. They are not in accordance with EYD rules, the writing of the news terrace do not fulfills indicators of 5W + 1H, and the news writing does not meet the indicators of journalism ethics rules.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between the intensity of watching Korean dramas and the level of liking Korean pop music with interest in learning Korean in adolescents. This is motivated by the fact that Indonesia is one of the countries hit by the Korean Wave phenomenon. Various products from the Land of Gingseng have successfully entered Indonesia and are favored in all circles. Korean dramas, Korean pop music and the Korean language are the Korean Wave products that attract the most attention and interest. The three phenomena occur at the same time but it is not known whether the three phenomena are interconnected. The study used Uses and Gratification theory and was conducted with purposive nonprobability sampling technique, with 100 samples aged 18-25 years in Semarang city. The results showed that there is a positive relationship between the intensity of watching Korean dramas and interest in learning Korean. This means that the higher the intensity of watching Korean dramas, the higher the interest in learning Korean. Furthermore, there is a positive relationship between the level of liking for Korean pop music and interest in learning Korean, which means that the higher the level of liking for Korean pop music, the higher the interest in learning Korean. This shows that Korean drama, Korean pop music and Korean language are interconnected phenomena and proves that the desire to learn a particular language or culture can be started by providing popular culture such as drama series and music.

Abstract

TikTok, a social media platform that is currently growing rapidly, has become a favorite entertainment tool among adolescents. The use of TikTok has positive impacts but can also have a negative impact in the form of TikTok addiction on its users. Fear of missing out may be one of the reasons why adolescents are addicted to TikTok. Thus, parents play a role as gatekeepers to limit the TikTok content that adolescents access. This study aims to determine the influence of fear of missing out (FoMO) level and parental supervision level on the level of addiction to using TikTok in adolescents. The theory in this study used Self-Determination Theory by Ryan and Deci and Parental Mediation Theory by Lynn Clark. In determining the sample, this study used a non-probability sampling technique with a purposive sampling technique. The research population was female and male adolescents with an age range of 15-22 years old in Indonesia who have actively used TikTok in the last three months. The results indicated that fear of missing out (FoMO) level with the level of addiction to using TikTok in adolescents had a significance value of 0.000 where the number was less than 0.05, which means that fear of missing out (FoMO) level, influence the level of addiction to using TikTok in adolescents. Meanwhile, parental supervision level with the level of addiction to using TikTok in adolescents obtained a significance value of 0.231 where the number was more than 0.05, which means it was not significant and it can be argued that parental supervision level had no effect on the level of addiction to using TikTok in adolescents.
