The results of this study are that the Transformation of Government Public Communication from Crisis Communication to Risk Communication must be carried out not only because of a request from the World Health Organization as an evaluation of government-run communications, but also as a form of improving the Indonesian government's communication strategy in handling COVID-19. -19. The success of risk communication cannot only be seen from the government's public communication strategy through various media. However, what is also important is how the public responds to various information submitted by the government. The public is also expected to play an active role in producing and disseminating information and education needed by all parties who need information from reliable and responsible sources with good and interesting content about various efforts to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

The role of brand in shaping consumer behavior within the perfume product category is widely acknowledged. However, the case of HMNS presents an intriguing anomaly as it exhibits high buying behavior in the e-marketplace, while its brand image position remains comparatively low. In an effort to enhance its brand image, HMNS employs video storytelling marketing and strategic packaging. This study aims to investigate the impact of the attractiveness of video storytelling marketing and packaging on the perception of the HMNS Perfumery brand, utilizing the Antecedent-Attribution theory as the theoretical framework. The study focuses on the population of HMNS social media followers, employing a non-probability sampling technique to gather responses from 50 individuals, encompassing both men and women aged 17-34 years who possess knowledge of Ambar Janma's products and have engaged with HMNS storytelling video content. The results of the hypothesis testing, conducted through multiple linear regression analysis, surprisingly indicate that neither the attractiveness of storytelling marketing nor the attractiveness of packaging significantly influence the perception of the HMNS Perfumery brand. These findings highlight the need for further exploration to understand the underlying factors contributing to the brand's low image position despite its strong buying behavior in the e-marketplace.

Abstract

The writing of news articles on rape cases requires careful attention in order to respect the traumatic experiences of the victims and avoid negative perceptions of rape victims. Despite journalists having a moral and ethical foundation in carrying out their duties, news coverage of rape cases by online news portals often comes under scrutiny from the public for frequently violating these principles. This research employs quantitative content analysis, aiming to provide objective data on the tendencies of online news websites in Indonesia when reporting rape cases. The data was obtained from a total of 300 news articles published by 10 popular online news websites in Indonesia from January 1, 2020, to October 31, 2021. The findings of this study demonstrate that sensational headlines commonly used by Indonesian news websites were characterized by clickbait and emotionally driven words. The use of images in reporting on rape cases refrains from disclosing the identities of both victims and underage perpetrators, while also avoiding explicit visuals. In terms of the body of the news articles, the titles and content are generally relevant. Nearly all the examined news websites have at some point included information or statements that could give rise to prejudice and discrimination against rape victims. Among the total sample studied, 9% of the articles contained narratives with biased and discriminatory tones. The description of rape incidents frequently employs neutral terminology accompanied by euphemistic replacements for the term "rape." The use of vulgar language in rape news is infrequent, appearing only in a few articles, with an average of two occurrences in every thirty articles published by online news portals. Privacy violations of the victims were found in 23% of the total news samples examined. In 27 news articles addressing rape cases involving underage perpetrators, 7% or 2 articles specifically mentioned the residential addresses and villages of the perpetrators. The most frequently cited sources in rape-related news articles were representatives from law enforcement agencies and human rights organizations, particularly from the police.

Abstract

Individuals pursuing studies outside their native cultural environment demand complex adaptation. Migration to a culturally distinct environment propels cross-cultural adaptation and communication, especially in Semarang which attracts diverse students, including those from the Batak ethnic group. In this context, cross-cultural communication, particularly with Javanese culture, becomes essential in Semarang's culturally diverse setting. This research examines the cultural adaptation of Batak ethnic students within the host culture during their educational journey in Semarang. The employed method is qualitative, grounded in the interpretive paradigm and phenomenological approach. Data for this study were obtained through in-depth interviews with four Batak ethnic students aged 18 and above, who had not previously resided in Semarang. The findings of this research reveal that the cultural adaptation of Batak ethnic students in Semarang follows several stages based on the U-Curve model. The stages experienced by Batak ethnic students in adapting to the new culture encompass entering the new culture, culture shock, adjustment to the new culture, and understanding the core of the new culture. In the first stage, Batak ethnic students encounter differences in values, norms, language, and lifestyle compared to Javanese culture, resulting in mixed feelings of excitement and enthusiasm, as well as anxiety stemming from unfamiliarity with the new environment. The second stage, termed as the culture shock phase, marks a period where feelings of alienation and discomfort start to arise due to significant cultural disparities, such as language, communication style, and cuisine. However, through effort and time, Batak ethnic students successfully transition into the adjustment phase, where they learn and adapt to new customs, including mastering Javanese language for daily interactions. In this stage, support from local peers plays a pivotal role in aiding Batak ethnic students to adapt more effectively. This adjustment process varies in duration, ranging from two weeks to six months. Ultimately, by grasping the essence of the new culture, Batak ethnic students feel more at ease and adept at functioning within Javanese culture. Understanding the language, customs, and local norms assists in overcoming anxiety and enhances comfort in interacting with the local community. Anxiety also emerges as a factor faced by Batak ethnic students during the adaptation process, primarily due to uncertainty in encountering unfamiliar culture, lack of peers from the same hometown, and a sense of longing for their place of origin.
