Abstract

The rapid growth of the fast fashion industry has given rise to a new phenomenon referred to as sustainable fashion, hence prompting a paradigm shift in consumers' perspectives towards their clothes consumption habits. The objective of this study is to investigate the correlation between customer awareness of sustainable fashion and their willingness to pay, specifically in relation to their intention to purchase sustainable fashion products. The hypotheses posited in this study are derived from the theoretical framework of the Theory of Reasoned Action. The data for this study was collected from a sample of 310 participants through an online survey. The sampling approach employed was non-probability sampling, specifically purposive sampling. The selection of participants for the survey was based on certain criteria, (1) Male and female from Indonesia (2) Male or female consisted of individuals between the ages of 18 and 50.This study tested one hypothesis. As a result, it shows that awareness of sustainable fashion and willingness to pay, does correlate positive and significant with intention to purchase sustainable fashion products with a result of 0.000 (<0.01) on both variables. The aforementioned evidence supports the validity of the existing theory, that customers who have a greater understanding about the problems related with the consequences of fast fashion or the opposite of sustainable fashion are more likely to make purchases of sustainable fashion products. The findings of this study provide an important implication as knowledge of the impact of various barriers to sustainable fashion consumption can increase their intention to purchase sustainable fashion goods. Although public awareness of the negative environmental effects of the fashion industry is relatively high, there is still much work to be done to educate consumers on the consequences of their decisions. Furthermore, Indonesian market has already demonstrated a willingness to pay a higher price for environmentally and socially responsible products. Thus, it may serve as an encouragement for both global and regional fashion brands to make the transition towards sustainability.

Abstract

The proliferation of social media platforms has provided researchers with ample opportunities to explore the implications of these platforms' positive and negative use. Focusing on the latter, this research has highlighted the implications of the fear of missing out (FoMO) and social overload as two from many aspects of social media inappropriate use. Previous studies on this aspect mainly focuses on Facebook and Weibo as social media in used, meanwhile based on a survey conducted by Royal Society for Public Health in England at 2017 shows that among five social media platforms commonly used by people, Instagram placed number one in being the most negative social media that impact young people's mental health. This paper analyzes whether fear of missing out and social overload has effects on user intention to leave or quit using social media, specifically Instagram. This study uses previous research as a reference for reducing the hypothesis. In determining the sample, this study used a non-probability sampling technique and took a total of 200 samples. the criteria of this research sample are students of Diponegoro University Communication Sciences who enroll from year 2018 to 2022, and have an Instagram account. Tests were carried using simple linear regression analysis. Results shows that fear of missing out has an influence on discontinuance use of Instagram with significance value of 0,000  0,01 which means highly significant, and R Square of 0,441 or an influence value of 44,1 percent. Furthermore, social overload also has an influence on discontinuance use of Instagram with significance value of 0,000  0,01 which means highly significant, and R Square of 0,485 or an influence value of 48,5 percent.

Abstract

The background of this research is based on the fact that although PT Paragon Technology & Innovation has successful cosmetic brands, such as Wardah, Emina, and Make Over, this company is little known in the public and has a lack of online media coverage, which reflects an unequal comparison between brand popularity and understanding of the company itself. This research analyzes PT Paragon Technology & Innovation's media relations strategy in building its corporate image. This research adopts a post-positivism paradigm with a case study approach and pattern-matching analysis techniques based on Stakeholder Theory, Impression Management Theory, the corporate narrative concept and the publicity concept. The main focus is the Corporate Communication division of PT Paragon Technology & Innovation, which plays a role in media relations. Primary data was obtained through interviews, observation, and document analysis, while secondary data was used as support. The validity of the data is ensured through the criteria of credibility, transferability, dependability, and certainty. The research results show that PT Paragon Technology & Innovation implements a comprehensive media relations strategy in building a corporate narrative. They build strong relationships with the media through pitching relevant to the audience and company narrative. Implementing the media relations program continuously includes media amplification, press conferences, media visits, media tours, media collaboration, media gatherings, and the Media Journalism Fellowship. The research suggestion is for PT Paragon Technology & Innovation to increase the effectiveness of media relations by conducting briefings related to the intensity of mention of the name PT Paragon Technology & Innovation in reporting to the media, providing news material with factual data accompanied by history or milestones regarding PT Paragon Technology & Innovation. In this way, PT Paragon Technology & Innovation can better overcome the imbalance between brand popularity and understanding of the company itself.

Abstract

Indonesia menduduki peringkat ketiga sebagai fatherless country menurut survei Fatherhood Institute’s Fairness in Families Index. Ini dikarenakan mengakarnya nilai patriarki dalam masyarakat yang membedakan peranan gender dalam rumah tangga, dimana ibu adalah pengasuh utama anak dan ayah adalah pencari nafkah utama. Film sebagai media massa dinilai mampu menampilkan realitas dalam masyarakat. Film Miracle in Cell No. 7 menampilkan hubungan ayah dan anak yang berbeda dengan konstruksi dalam masyarakat patriarki. Tujuan penelitian ini ialah untuk mendeskripsikan representasi fatherhood dalam film Miracle in Cell No. 7. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ialah teori representasi Stuart hall yang didukung dengan konsep fatherhood Nicholas Townsend. Pengaplikasian metode analisis semiotika John Fiske dalam penelitian dilakukan dengan tiga level, yakni level realitas, representasi, dan ideologi. Dari penelitian yang dilakukan, ditemukan terdapat dua tokoh ayah yang memiliki sifat kebapakan yang berbeda. Tokoh utama ayah digambarkan berbeda dengan ayah dalam masyarakat patriarki pada umumnya, dimana ayah mengadopsi seluruh elemen fatherhood ideal Nicholas Townsend, yakni: (1) emotional closeness yang ditunjukkan pada sesi emotional sharing antara ayah dan anak; (2) elemen provision yang ditampilkan pada penetapan standar materi dalam kehidupan anak; (3) elemen endowment yang ditunjukkan pada sosok ayah yang mengantar jemput dan pengajaran nilai moral; serta (4) elemen protection yang ditunjukkan pada usaha perlindungan pada anak dari ancaman fisik dan ketidakpastian. Sedangkan tokoh ayah antagonis ditunjukkan sebagai ayah yang absen. Meskipun demikian, bentuk fatherhood ideal pada ayah tokoh utama ditampilkan dalam bingkai disabilitas yang kemudian membuat representasi fatherhood pada ayah disabilitas dalam film menjadi representasi fatherhood yang subordinat. Hal ini dikarenakan penggambaran fatherhood pada tokoh ayah antagonis mengarah pada bentuk fatherhood yang dominan dan fatherless. Terlebih dalam akhir cerita, tokoh utama ayah ditunjukkan kalah karena adanya keterbatasan dan ketidakberdayaan melawan tokoh ayah antagonis yang cenderung fatherless. Film ini kemudian secara ideologis mendukung ideologi dominan mengenai peranan ayah dalam pengasuhan anak, bahwa fatherhood ideal yang ditampilkan dalam film muncul karena adanya keterbatasan yang dimiliki oleh tokoh utama.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the meaning behind racially-based bullying messages experienced by biracial adolescents. Racial bullying targets the physical features or ethnic identity of the victim, often resulting in significant effects on their personal development and mental well-being. Using the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach, this study delves into the lived experiences of several biracial adolescents aged 12-19, with mixed heritages including Indonesia-Korea, Indonesia-India, Indonesia-New Zealand/Dutch, and Indonesia-Nigeria. In-depth interviews served as the primary method of data collection, focusing on the victims' interpretations of the bullying messages they encountered. Symbolic Interactionism Theory and Coordinated Management of Meaning (CMM) were applied to analyze how victims make sense of and respond to these racially motivated messages within their social relationships. The findings suggest that biracial adolescent as victims interpret the racial-based messages as deeply ingrained with racial stereotypes. Additionally, the findings also revealed that biracial adolescent understand the act of racial-based bullying as act of social exclusion and the construction of self-doubt. These racial-based messages interpretation leads to a negative self-concept and the development of trust issues. Moreover, biracial adolescent interpreted the process of communication with family, friends, and school authorities as the efforts to seek support and process their emotions. In conclusion, the findings indicate that biracial adolescents perceive racial-based bullying messages as deeply rooted in racial stereotypes and view these acts as forms of social exclusion that foster self-doubt. Racial-based bullying not only affects the psychological development of biracial adolescents but also shapes their understanding of their racial identity. This study highlights how biracial adolescent make sense of the experience they faced in order to form coping mechanism.

Abstract

The Ministry of Social Affairs applies PKH assistance to recipient communities to prevent misuse of assistance for consumptive purposes. The aim of this program is to improve the standard of living and quality of human resources in the form of changes in mindset, behavior and prosperous graduation. This research aims to examine the relationship between the effectiveness of FDS assistance and media use on the level of KPM participation with Cybernetic Theory and the Knowledge-Attitude-Behavior Model which are based on quantitative analysis. Also used is probability sampling with cluster random sampling techniques via Pearson Product Moment Correlation and Simple Linear Regression. The total sample of 85 KPM will still be active until 2024, in Ngraji Village, Grobogan. The first hypothesis in this research is that there is a relationship between the effectiveness of FDS assistance (X1) and the level of KPM participation (Y), the results show that there is no linear relationship between the two variables. The essence of assistance does not work according to the initial goal, the mentor is too dominant as an information resource so it is necessary to reconsider the approach to a good relationship with respondents. The second research hypothesis examines that there is a relationship between the effectiveness of media use (X2) and the level of KPM participation (Y), the results show that there is a linear relationship. However, the effectiveness only reached 11.4%, due to the physical limitations of the module and flipchart. Therefore, it is necessary to consider increasing the physical media duplication budget. The third hypothesis is that there is a relationship between the effectiveness of FDS assistance (X1) and media use (X2) and the level of KPM participation (Y). Based on these results, no conclusion can be drawn from the third hypothesis, because the results of the two hypotheses are inversely proportional and if the first hypothesis is continued the effectiveness value is less than 1%. Thus, continuous assistance with the media is not fully implemented and still requires the respondent's determination to be actively involved in making PKH a success

Abstract

This study aims to analyze coaching communication in maintaining karate kata athletes' motivation in preparation for the National Sports Week (PON). Communication between coaches and athletes is a key element in sports coaching, especially in motivating athletes to achieve their best performance. Using a qualitative approach, this study collected data through in-depth interviews with coaches and athletes and direct observation during training sessions. The results showed that effective communication, including providing constructive feedback, emotional support, and setting clear goals, played a significant role in maintaining and improving athlete motivation. In addition, communication strategies that are personalized and tailored to the needs of individual athletes have been shown to reduce stress and increase their self-confidence. This study emphasizes the importance of the role of coaching communication in achieving success in prestigious competitions such as PON, and provides practical recommendations for coaches in optimizing communication with their athletes.

Abstract

The digital era has brought changes in shopping habits, one of which is the emergence of the new trend of live streaming commerce. In Indonesia, this feature has been met with high enthusiasm, as 86% of online shoppers have claimed to have visited live shopping. Live streaming commerce facilitates real-time interaction between streamers and consumers. Streamers as communicators deliver product persuasion messages and consumers are exposed to information and engage directly with streamer recommendations. Although the streamer's persuasion strategy is relatively the same, the result is different. Consumers do not always make direct purchases according to the persuasion message during live streaming. This study aims to explain the effect of information completeness, information accuracy, streamer trustworthiness, and streamer attractiveness on perceived persuasiveness experienced by Shopee Live viewers using a quantitative approach through a one-shot experimental method. The theory used in this study is the elaboration likelihood model theory, with a purposive sampling technique involving 100 respondents. The results of hypothesis testing with multiple linear regression show that there is no significant effect between information completeness and information accuracy on perceived persuasiveness experienced by respondents when watching Shopee Live. However, streamer trustworthiness and streamer attractiveness are simultaneously proven to affect perceived persuasiveness.

Abstract

Historical tourism, especially in Semarang Old Town, is increasingly popular. However, despite various efforts to provide historical information through various media, tourists' interest in reading this information still needs to be improved. This study aims to reveal the influence of tourist motivation on the behavior of reading historical information in Semarang Old Town. By understanding the factors that influence tourist motivation, it is hoped that effective strategies can be found to increase tourist interest in delving deeper into the history and culture of Semarang Old Town. This study used a quantitative explanatory method with a purposive sampling technique involving 200 respondents. The results of the study showed that social motivation and cultural motivation had no effect on the behavior of reading historical information. Meanwhile, prestige motivation had a fairly strong positive effect on the behavior of reading historical information.

Abstract

Single parents certainly experience difficulties in filling multiple roles, but being a single parent with a child with special needs presents challenges and complexities on a different level. Media has a role as a source of information as well as entertainment, to accurately display a social issue in society, so that individuals, groups or a culture are represented. This research describes the role of men as single parents in shaping the character of children with Asperger's syndrome in the Korean drama Move to Heaven by implementing John Fiske's semiotic theory through the level of reality, the level of representation and the level of ideology. The role of men as single parents in forming the character of children with Asperger syndrome shows inconsistencies in the discipline aspect. Then, in the affection aspect, the dominant role of men as single parents is shown, which ignores children's autonomy. Then, in the aspect of self-development, men as single parents show that children who understand their self-concept still need validation from other people. Finally, in the social aspect, it is not shown in depth the instillation of social values by men as single parents with children with Asperger's syndrome. The Korean drama Move to Heaven tends to romanticize the role of men as single parents with children with Asperger's syndrome by presenting dramatic elements that support the conception of hegemonie masculinity in society
