Abstract

Pregnancy in the third trimester often causes discomfort for expectant mothers, including back pain. This pain, typically located in the lumbosacral area, arises from the growing uterus, which alters posture and increases pressure on the spinal curvature. As the abdominal muscles stretch to accommodate the enlarging uterus, muscle fatigue and increased spinal load contribute to back pain. Effleurage massage, a non-pharmacological therapy involving gentle stroking movements, may help alleviate this discomfort. The massage technique stimulates and relaxes tense nerves and muscles. This study aimed to analyze the effect of effleurage massage on reducing back pain in third-trimester pregnant women. A quasi-experimental research method with a one-group pre-test-post-test design was employed. Participants were recruited using total sampling. The results showed a significant difference in back pain scores before and after effleurage massage (p = 0.000). This study concludes that effleurage massage has a significant effect on reducing back pain in pregnant women in the third trimester.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease that requires comprehensive management involving both patients and their families. Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) is a crucial strategy for empowering patients and preventing complications, particularly diabetic foot ulcers. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of DSME, combined with family support, in preventing diabetic foot ulcers. Methods: A quasi-experimental, one-group pre- and post-test design was employed. Participants were recruited using purposive sampling. The study included 11 respondents with type 2 diabetes mellitus who were over 40 years old, lived with family, had no significant sensory impairments, could communicate effectively, and were willing to participate. The intervention consisted of three DSME sessions delivered over 14 days at the Sekaran Health Centre. Results: Before the intervention (pre-test), 81.8% of participants demonstrated poor self-care behaviour, while 18.2% exhibited good self-care behaviour. Following the intervention (post-test), there was a significant improvement, with 72.7% demonstrating good self-care behaviour and 27.3% exhibiting poor self-care behaviour. Statistical analysis revealed a significant effect of the DSME and family support intervention on self-care behaviour (p = 0.001; α = 0.05). Conclusion: DSME, combined with family support, is effective in improving self-care behaviour among individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus, which can contribute to the prevention of diabetic foot ulcers. These findings underscore the importance of integrating DSME and family support into diabetes management programs

Abstract

Diarrhoea is characterized by an increase in stool frequency (three or more times in 24 hours) with liquid consistency, sometimes accompanied by blood. Common symptoms include abdominal bloating, cramps, nausea, and vomiting. Prolonged diarrhoea in children can lead to dehydration, reduced food intake, weight loss, and potentially failure to thrive. Ambon bananas offer a non-pharmacological approach to managing diarrhoea. This study aimed to determine the effect of Ambon banana consumption on stool consistency in children with diarrhoea. A quasi-experimental, one-group pre-test-post-test design was employed with a purposive sample of 20 children. Results indicated a significant improvement in stool consistency after the intervention (p = 0.000). This study concludes that Ambon bananas can effectively alter stool consistency in children with diarrhoea. Parents are advised to consider incorporating Ambon bananas into the dietary management of diarrhoea in their children.

Abstract

This study examines the role of leadership in enhancing organizational performance through the mediating effect of paramedic loyalty in public health centers (Puskesmas). Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from paramedics working at various Puskesmas through structured questionnaires. The research model hypothesizes that the role of Puskesmas leaders positively influences both paramedic loyalty and organizational performance, with paramedic loyalty also having a direct positive impact on performance. Furthermore, the study explores the mediating effect of paramedic loyalty on the relationship between leadership and organizational performance. Data analysis was conducted using regression and mediation techniques to test the proposed hypotheses. The findings indicate that effective leadership significantly increases paramedic loyalty, which in turn enhances the overall performance of Puskesmas. Additionally, the results reveal that paramedic loyalty partially mediates the relationship between leadership and organizational performance, emphasizing the importance of fostering loyalty among healthcare staff to achieve optimal organizational outcomes. This research provides valuable insights for public health administrators and policymakers to develop leadership strategies that strengthen staff commitment and improve service delivery in public health centers.

Abstract

Stunting is a critical global health issue, especially in developing countries, affecting the growth and development of children under five. This study aims to analyze the factors related to the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 24-59 months. This quantitative research employs a cross-sectional design, involving 200 toddlers selected randomly from several integrated health posts (Posyandu). Data were collected through questionnaires and direct measurements, then analyzed using multiple logistic regression. The results showed that family nutritional awareness behavior, maternal nutritional knowledge, and clean and healthy living behavior (CHLB) significantly affect the incidence of stunting. Maternal nutritional knowledge was identified as the most dominant factor. These findings emphasize the importance of comprehensive interventions involving family education, nutritional support, and CHLB promotion to reduce stunting prevalence. Further research and implementation of targeted interventions are needed to address and mitigate stunting effectively.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between hospital service quality factors and outpatient satisfaction among Type II Diabetes Mellitus patients. The research employed a quantitative cross-sectional approach with a sample of 150 Type II Diabetes Mellitus outpatients selected through systematic random sampling from three public hospitals in Indonesia. Data were collected using validated questionnaires measuring five dimensions of hospital service quality: physical evidence, medical staff reliability, medical staff responsiveness, attention to patients, and comfort. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to examine the relationships between variables. Results revealed significant positive correlations between all service quality factors and outpatient satisfaction (p<0.05), with medical staff reliability (β=0.32) and attention to patients (β=0.28) demonstrating the strongest associations. The findings suggest that enhancing these service quality dimensions, particularly through improved medical staff competence and patient-centered care approaches, could significantly improve satisfaction among Type II Diabetes Mellitus outpatients. This study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the importance of service quality in chronic disease management within Indonesian healthcare settings.
