Abstract

Anemia is a global health problem, particularly affecting adolescent girls due to their increased iron needs during growth and menstruation. In Indonesia, the prevalence of anemia among adolescents reaches 32%, posing risks such as fatigue, decreased concentration, stunted growth, and lowered immunity. Poor nutritional status and lack of knowledge are suspected to contribute to anemia in this group. Objective:This study aims to determine the relationship between nutritional status and knowledge level with the incidence of anemia among adolescents at the Tahirah Al Baeti Bulukumba Midwifery Academy. Methods: This was a quantitative descriptive study involving 10 adolescent girls with anemia, selected through total sampling from a population of 27 students. Data were collected using questionnaires and BMI measurements. Statistical analysis was performed using the Chi-square test to assess the relationship between variables. Results: Of the 10 respondents, 6 (60%) experienced mild anemia and 4 (40%) experienced severe anemia. There was a significant relationship between nutritional status and anemia incidence (p = 0.004); all respondents with normal BMI experienced only mild anemia, while 80% of those with abnormal BMI suffered from severe anemia. However, the relationship between knowledge level and anemia incidence was not statistically significant (p = 0.548). Conclusion: Nutritional status significantly affects the incidence and severity of anemia among adolescent girls, with those having abnormal BMI at greater risk. In contrast, knowledge level alone does not significantly influence anemia occurrence. Therefore, improving adolescent nutrition should be prioritized, while educational programs should continue to support healthier behavior and anemia prevention.

Abstract

Rainbow leaves are known to have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities, so they have the potential to be developed in the form of practical and comfortable topical emulgel preparations. This study aims to formulate and evaluate the physical stability of rainbow leaf extract emulgel preparations (Eucalyptus deglupta Blume) with variations in the combination of gelling agent concentrations Carbopol 940 and HPMC. Three emulgel formulas were made with different concentrations of Carbopol 940 and HPMC, then evaluated through organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesion, viscosity, and physical stability tests using the freeze-thaw method for 6 cycles. The evaluation results showed that all formulas met good physical parameters, with formula F1 (Carbopol 940 0.5% and HPMC 1.5%) showing the most optimal results in terms of viscosity, spreadability, and adhesion. Thus, the combination of Carbopol 940 and HPMC at optimal concentration can produce a physically stable rainbow leaf extract emulgel preparation that is suitable for topical application.

Abstract

Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest remains a significant public health challenge, with survival often depending on bystander basic life support (BLS). Effective BLS knowledge and practical skills among laypersons are crucial to improving survival outcomes. However, many community members struggle to translate theoretical knowledge into practical action during real-life emergencies. This study aimed to assess the knowledge and skills of laypersons regarding BLS in Takalar Regency, Indonesia. A descriptive quantitative design was employed, involving 60 randomly selected participants. Data were collected using validated and reliable questionnaires to assess both knowledge and skills. The findings revealed that the majority of respondents (72.6%) had moderate knowledge of BLS, while 24.2% demonstrated good knowledge, and none were categorized as poor. Regarding practical skills, 54.8% of respondents passed the skills assessment, 33.9% fell into the doubtful category, and 11.3% failed. These results suggest that while the theoretical understanding of BLS was relatively adequate, practical skill development remained a challenge for many participants. The study emphasizes the need for more effective, continuous, and technology-assisted BLS training programs to improve both knowledge retention and practical skills. Future research should focus on interventional designs to evaluate the long-term effectiveness of these training programs in enhancing BLS performance among laypersons

Abstract

This study aims to develop a conceptual model describing the relationship between Awareness, Compliance with PPE Use, Risk Perception, Organizational Support, Barriers and Attitudes and Compliance in improving occupational safety of healthcare workers. Using a Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach, this study investigates the influence of six latent factors, namely awareness, compliance behavior, risk perception, organizational support, barriers, and attitudes/motivation on occupational safety. A cross-sectional survey was conducted on 33 nurses at Dian Pertiwi Hospital, Karanganyar, Indonesia, using a Likert-scale questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS and SmartPLS for construct validation and model testing. Reliability analysis showed that most constructs achieved Cronbach's Alpha ≥ 0.7, except for Risk Perception (α=0.693) and Attitude/Motivation (α=0.439), which improved after refinement. SEM results (R²=0.2275) indicated that PPE awareness and compliance had a positive, though insignificant, effect on occupational safety (p>0.05). These findings suggest that awareness and compliance play a significant role in improving workplace safety, but organizational factors and motivational aspects also contribute to behavioral consistency. This study provides a validated conceptual framework for future interventions aimed at improving PPE compliance and safety culture in healthcare institutions.
