The Journal of Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA), Indonesia, that publishes high-quality research articles and scholarly works in the fields of sports medicine, physical therapy, sports therapy, rehabilitation, occupational therapy, and pain medicine. The journal aims to provide a global platform for innovative research, evidence-based practice, and advances in sports medicine and physiotherapy. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, the journal seeks to enhance understanding, application, and innovation in rehabilitation, movement, and function to improve the health and well-being of individuals across diverse populations. The Journal of Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy provides a platform for researchers, academics, clinicians, and practitioners to publish scientific contributions, including original research articles, case studies, clinical trials, bibliometric studies, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and other relevant scholarly works. The scope of the journal includes physical therapy, sports therapy and rehabilitation, sports medicine, occupational therapy, and pain medicine. Background: A volleyball player needs to be in good shape since it will help them improve their tactics, techniques, and mental state.Objectives: The aim of this study was to find out how fit the female volleyball players of the BVB (Bina Voli Banyumas) club were.Methods: This type of research is quantitative with a descriptive approach. The sample in this study used a total sampling technique, namely all 11 female athletes of the BVB (Bina Voli Banyumas) club. The research instrument uses physical condition test components which include: speed, agility, strength, coordination, explosive power and endurance.Results: The speed component as many as 11 athletes are classified in the good category with a percentage of 100%, the agility component as many as 11 athletes are classified in the very poor category with a percentage of 100%, the strength component as many as 3 athletes are classified in the good category with a percentage of 27% and as many as 8 athletes are classified in the very good category with a percentage of 73%, the explosive power component as many as 4 athletes are classified in the good category with a percentage of 36%, as many as 6 athletes are classified in the fair category with a percentage of 60% and as many as 1 athlete is classified in the less category with a percentage of 4%, the coordination component as many as 4 athletes are classified in the good category with a percentage of 37%, as many as 2 athletes are classified in the fair category with a percentage of 18%, as many as 3 athletes are classified in the poor category with a percentage of 27% and as many as 2 athletes are classified in the very poor category with a percentage of 18%, the endurance component as many as 5 athletes are classified in the poor category with a percentage of 46%, as many as 4 athletes are classified in the poor category with a percentage of 36% and as many as 2 athletes are classified in the very poor category with a percentage of 18%.Conclusion: The physical fitness profile of female volleyball athletes at the BVB (Bina Voli Banyumas) club ranges from poor to very good. The category that needs improvement is agility.

Background: Physical condition is a term that describes the degree of fitness and health of a person's body, which includes various components such as strength, agility, durability, speed, power, balance, flexibility, and reaction. One of the primary indicators for measuring aerobic endurance capacity is VO2Max. A high VO2Max level is essential in sports that require high intensity and prolonged gameplay, such as badminton and futsal. Bojonegoro district has significant athletic potential, but there are no established normative VO2Max standards that can be used as a reference in the systematic selection and development of athletes. Objectives: This study aims to develop normative VO2Max standards as a benchmark for athlete selection in two sports, namely badminton and futsal, in Bojonegoro Regency. VO2Max is a key indicator of aerobic capacity and cardiovascular system efficiency, which is very important in supporting athlete endurance and performance. Methods: This study employed a quantitative approach using the Bleep Test instrument to measure VO2Max in 73 active athletes affiliated with sports clubs in Bojonegoro. Results: The study results showed that the average VO2Max for badminton athletes was 28.0 and for futsal athletes was 41.4, with standard deviations of 5.7 and 4.3, respectively. Based on category classification, most badminton athletes fell into the moderate category, while futsal athletes ranged from moderate to high categories. Conclusion: These differences reflect the physiological characteristics required in each sport, with futsal demanding higher aerobic endurance due to its higher intensity and longer match duration. This study produced VO2Max category norms for each sport, which can be used as a reference in the athlete selection process and in the development of targeted training programmes.

Background: Low back pain (LBP) ranks among the most common musculoskeletal disorders that impact functional mobility and overall quality of life, especially in older adults who work at school teachers. Although body mass index (BMI) is frequently utilized as an indicator of health risk, it does not differentiate between fat and muscle mass, which may have varying implications for LBP risk. Objectives: The objective of this research was to examine the correlation between body composition (BMI, muscle mass, body fat & visceral fat percentage) and the likelihood of experiencing LBP in pre-elderly individuals. Methods: This study used a cross sectional analytic design and included 72 pre-elderly participants between 45-59 years old, who were selected through purposive sampling. Body composition metrics were obtained using a bioelectrical impedance analysis device, while LBP disability was evaluated by Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) questionnaire. The data were analyzed utilizing Spearman correlation due to the non-normal distribution of the variables with the aid of IBM SPSS Statistic 26.0 software. Results: The analysis indicated a moderate negative correlation between muscle mass and ODI scores (r2 = -0.488, p = 0.001), implying that higher muscle mass correlates with reduced LBP related disability. Visceral fat percentage exhibited a weak yet significant negative correlation with ODI (r2 = -0.293, p = 0.012), whereas BMI and body fat percentage did not show significant correlation with LBP. Conclusion: Muscle mass was identified as the most critical protective factor against LBP in pre-elderly adults, while BMI and total body fat did not serve as predictors of LBP risk. These results highlight the significance of muscle preservation in strategies aimed at preventing LBP and suggest that BMI alone is inadequate for evaluating musculoskeletal health risks in aging populations. Background: Sports students, often also athletes and coaches, require optimal physical condition and fitness for peak performance and achievement. Maintaining fitness minimizes health risks and boosts exercise efficiency. VO2Max, the maximal oxygen uptake during intense exercise, is a key cardiovascular fitness indicator closely tied to muscle work capacity. Elevated Body Mass Index (BMI) and excess fat can impair cardiac function, reduce cardiac output, and hinder oxygen uptake, leading to lower VO2Max. This study focuses specifically on trained, active sports students, distinguishing it from prior research on general student populations. Objectives: To examine the relationship between BMI and VO2Max in sports students. Methods: This quantitative descriptive study used an observational analytic design. The study involved a total of 30 subjects active university students (19-22 years) were purposively sampled. BMI was measured with TANITA BC-545N, and VO2Max with the 12-minute Cooper test. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and Pearson correlation. Results: Mean BMI was 21.84 ± 2.52 kg/m². Most participants (70%) had normal BMI; 10% were underweight, 20% overweight. Mean VO2Max was 45.13 ± 4.93 mL/kg/min. Participants VO2Max, 53% were "good" and 23.5% "excellent".Normality test with Shapiro Wilk, p value BMI = 0.374 and p value VO2Max = 0.345 it mean (p> 0.05) then the data was normally distributed so that it was continued with parametric test is the Pearson Correlation test. A Pearson correlation showed a statistically significant negative relationship between BMI and VO2 Max (r = -0.372; p = 0.043), indicating a weak but inverse correlation. Conclusion: A significant negative relationship exists between BMI and VO2Max in sports students. Effective BMI management is crucial for preserving optimal cardiovascular fitness in this group. Background: Knee Osteoarthritis is one of the biggest health problems in the world because knee Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease whose condition severity usually increases with age. Patients with osteoarthritis of the knee often complain of various symptoms, especially pain, which can interfere with their functional activities, including walking. With age, the severity of the condition increases, potentially leading to alignment abnormalities in the knee. Alignment abnormalities occur due to changes in the Q-angle from the normal position. An increase in Q-angle occurs with malalignment, which will cause functional abnormalities and can result in subluxation of the patella and trigger various complaints in the knee.Objectives: In patients with Knee Osteoarthritis patients often complain of a variety of complaints especially pain that disrupts the functional activity of patients including the ability of the patient to walk, as the age increases the severity of the condition that the possibility of Q-angle changes will occur malalignment that will cause abnormalities of function and trigger the emergence of various complaint on the knee.Methods: The research method used in this study is a correlative descriptive method. The study was conducted over a three-day period with respondents of 38 patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis between the ages of 40-70 years in the ambulatory care Husada Utama Hospital Surabaya. A large measurement of the Q-Angle angle and the speed of walking using 10mFPWTResults: After measurement and statistical test using chi-square test has obtained P value of 0,000. which is value less than 0.05.Conclusion: There's a relationship" between large Q-angle and speed walking in patients with knee osteoarthritis.

Background: Badminton’s high-intensity demands (strength, speed, agility, endurance) elevate musculoskeletal injury risk in elite athletes. Objectives: To analyze injury management and physical rehabilitation experienced by Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Marcus Fernaldi Gideon using a qualitative, secondary-data design. Methods: Qualitative content analysis synthesizing interviews, news reports, and match summaries about injury history, management, and rehabilitation; themes were derived by open–axial–selective coding. Results: Three themes emerged: (1) Injury typology and load (hamstring, knee, ankle, back, chronic shoulder); (2) Management pathways integrating physical therapy and sport therapy; (3) Rehabilitation and return-to-play (RTP) decision-making emphasizing progressive loading, monitoring, and strategic withdrawal. Illustrative quotations accompany each theme. Conclusion: Integrated physical therapy, sport therapy, and systematic rehabilitation—personalized to injury type—are essential to restore performance and prevent reinjury in elite badminton. Background: flexibility is a crucial factor in injury prevention in explosive sports like volleyball. Hamstring tightness or limited flexibility can increase the risk of musculoskeletal injuries in the lower limbs. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between hamstring flexibility and injury risk in volleyball athletes from the BVB Banyumas club. Methods: This study used a quasi experimental quantitative method with a one group pretest posttest design. The subjects were 20 active junior volleyball athletes selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments included the Sit and Reach Test to measure hamstring flexibility and the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) to assess injury risk. The intervention, a hamstring stretching exercise program, was implemented for 4 weeks, 3 times per week. Data were analyzed using a t-test with a significance level of 0.05. Results: The results showed a significant increase in hamstring flexibility from 18.75 ± 3.08 cm to 23.85 ± 2.96 cm (p = 0.000) and an increase in FMS scores from 13.45 ± 1.31 to 15.80 ± 1.18 (p = 0.000). In addition, the results of the Pearson correlation test showed a strong negative relationship between hamstring flexibility and injury risk (r = -0.726; p = 0.001), which means that the better an athlete's flexibility, the lower their risk of injury. Conclusion: Regular hamstring stretching exercises can improve flexibility and reduce the risk of injury in volleyball athletes. This research demonstrates the importance of flexibility training in preventive and rehabilitative training programs for athletes.

Background: Ankle sprain is a common injury among football athletes and is associated with a high recurrence rate. Objectives: . This study explores the effectiveness of proprioceptive training in preventing re-injury through a qualitative phenomenological approach. Methods: This study adopts a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design, aiming to explore the subjective experiences of football athletes regarding the effectiveness of proprioceptive training in preventing recurrent injuries Results: The findings, based on interviews with athlete, indicate that proprioceptive exercises such as single leg stance, balance board training, and small jump drills significantly improve ankle stability, reduce pain, and enhance functional movement. Beyond physical recovery, the training also contributed to improved psychological well-being, particularly by reducing fear of re-injury and restoring confidence during gameplay. This study concludes that proprioceptive training is effective in lowering the risk of recurrent ankle sprain among athletes with previous injury history and plays a crucial role in both physical and mental recovery, supporting optimal return to sport performance. Conclusion: Proprioceptive training is an exercise to train balance and coordination, the better the proprioceptive the possibility of injury will be very small. Proprioceptive training reduces the risk of ankle sprains among sports populations especially in football.

Background: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are a significant concern among athletes, often necessitating reconstructive surgery (ACLR) to restore knee function and enable return to sport. Objectives: This scope review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of isokinetic exercise in the rehabilitation of athletes following ACLR, focusing on the optimal timing, training methods, and their impact on muscle strength and functional recovery. Methods: Articles published between 2016 and 2025 were systematically reviewed, with inclusion criteria emphasizing isokinetic interventions post-ACLR. Results: The analysis revealed that isokinetic training administered between 3 and 6 months post-ACLR significantly improves quadriceps and hamstring strength, enhances limb symmetry, and expedites knee function recovery. Isokinetic dynamometry at various angular velocities, combined with functional tests such as the Single-Leg Hop Test, was found to be effective in monitoring rehabilitation progress and determining readiness for return to sport. Conclusion: The findings underscore that well-timed and appropriately structured isokinetic exercise is an effective rehabilitation strategy for optimizing post-ACLR recovery in athletes, reducing muscle strength deficits, and minimizing the risk of re-injury..

Background: Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries are a major concern among athletes, often requiring surgical intervention followed by comprehensive rehabilitation. One of the recommended exercises during the strengthening phase (phase 3) of post-ACL reconstruction rehabilitation is the leg press Objectives: This case report aims to evaluate the effectiveness of leg press exercises as part of a rehabilitation program in a 22-year-old male football athlete following ACL reconstruction. Methods: The method involved progressive leg press training (30 kg, 3–4 times per week, 3 sets of 10–15 repetitions) and monitoring using Y Balance Test, agility t-test, and IKDC questionnaire Results: he results showed improvements in dynamic balance, agility, muscle strength, and overall knee function. These findings indicate that leg press exercise is effective in accelerating recovery, enhancing functional readiness, and reducing the risk of re-injury during the strengthening phase of ACL rehabilitation. Therefore, leg press exercises are recommended as part of a structured and individualized phase 3 rehabilitation program, particularly for athletes aiming to return to sports activities. Conclusion: Leg press exercise during phase 3 rehabilitation after ACL reconstruction effectively improves muscle strength, dynamic balance, agility, and knee function. Therefore, leg press can be recommended as a key component of a structured and progressive rehabilitation program to support functional recovery and return to sport.
