Abstract

Students in sports education who want to become physical education instructors need to do a full physical fitness test. The goal of this study was to look at the diverse effects of gender and body mass index (BMI) categories on the physical fitness of sports education freshmen from many angles. A cross-sectional descriptive study was done with 80 first-year sports education students (61 males and 19 females) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur. They were all 19 years old. The whole fitness exam looked at muscular strength (push-ups), explosive power (vertical jump), flexibility (sit-and-reach), cardiovascular endurance (multistage fitness test), and body composition. There were big disparities between men and women in all fitness areas (p < 0.05). Men did better on strength and power tests, while women did better on flexibility tests. BMI showed that 46.25% of people were at a healthy weight, 35% were overweight, 17.5% were underweight, and 1.25% were obese. Students with a normal BMI had far better cardiovascular endurance than those who were overweight (p < 0.001). The study shows that future physical education teachers are not in great shape, with most of them scoring below the ideal ranges. To make sports education students more physically ready, they need intervention programs that are tailored to their gender and body mass index (BMI).

Abstract

This study sought to examine, among extracurricular players at SMA Negeri 1 Loa Janan, the relationship between tactical knowledge and playing experience on futsal team performance. With a total sample size of 20 students—9 from grade X, 11 from grade XI—the study used a correlational quantitative approach. Among the research tools were a validated tactical knowledge test (48 items, α=0.87), a playing experience questionnaire, and team performance records from official events. Multiple linear regression with SPSS 26 was applied in data analysis. Team performance (R²=0.592) was shown to be much influenced by tactical understanding (β=0.485, p<0.01) and playing experience (β=0.367, p< 0.05). With mean score of 61.25 (SD=9.12), the tactical knowledge level was essentially in the intermediate range (45%). The study comes to the conclusion that improving tactical knowledge and competition experience helps school futsal team success. One practical result is creating organized tactical learning courses especially for futsal extracurricular activities.

Abstract

Extracurricular activities play an important role in student development, especially in martial arts education such as Tapak Suci. However, the declining participation rate in Tapak Suci extracurricular activities in vocational schools indicates potential problems in student interest and motivation that require systematic investigation. This study aims to assess the level of interest and motivation of students in participating in Tapak Suci extracurricular activities at SMK Muhammadiyah Loa Janan and identify factors that influence their participation. A descriptive quantitative research design was used with a survey method. The population consisted of 50 enrolled students, with 30 active participants selected through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire based on a modified Likert scale, measuring intrinsic factors (physical, interest, talent, motivation) and extrinsic factors (environment, family, facilities, instructors). The study showed that students' interest and motivation in Tapak Suci extracurricular activities were categorized as moderate to low. Attendance rates indicated that only 60% of enrolled students actively participated in regular training sessions. Intrinsic motivational factors showed a higher influence than extrinsic factors in maintaining student participation. Student interest and motivation in Tapak Suci extracurricular activities need to be improved through better program design, instructor support, and facility development. The findings of this study provide valuable insights into the multifaceted nature of student motivation in Tapak Suci extracurricular activities, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement in the current program implementation. The moderate to high overall motivation level ( M = 2.51) indicates that although students have a basic interest in the curriculum, there is still substantial room for growth. These findings provide valuable insights for educational institutions to develop more effective extracurricular programs

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of class XI MPLB students of SMKN 1 Sungai Pinang in designing and practicing rhythmic gymnastics movement variations, with an average pre-action score of 7.93 (designing) and 7.59 (practicing), which is still below standard. To overcome this, the Teaching Factory model is used which systematically integrates theory and practice and encourages authentic experiences and teamwork. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) with the Kurt Lewin model consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of the research were 29 class XI MPLB students. Data collection was carried out through performance assessments in pre-action, Cycle I, and Cycle II. Data analysis used the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test and One-Way Repeated Measures ANOVA. The results of the study showed a significant increase: the ability to practice increased by +3.52 points (pre-test to Cycle I) and +2.22 points (Cycle I to II), while the ability to design increased by +2.67 points and +1.00 points. These results indicate that the Teaching Factory model is effective in improving students' skills in rhythmic gymnastics learning.

Abstract

High-intensity interval training (HIIT) has been shown to be an effective training method for improving cardiovascular fitness. This article presents a systematic literature review on the effect of HIIT on maximal oxygen uptake capacity (VO2Max) in Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) military personnel. A literature search was conducted in several academic databases using keywords such as "high-intensity interval training," "HIIT," "VO2Max," and related terms. Inclusion criteria included studies with adult participants (generally aged 18-45 years) whose VO2Max was measured before and after the intervention. Selected studies have reported that HIIT training programs consistently improve participants' aerobic capacity. For example, studies have shown VO2Max increases of 5.5–7.2% after 8 weeks of HIIT training, and in some cases, reaching an average of 26.9% after 12 weeks of basic military physical training. A recent meta-analysis demonstrated that HIIT provides statistically superior or equivalent increases in VO2Max compared to moderate continuous training. Further thematic analysis indicated that long-interval protocols (≥2 minutes) with high training volume tended to be more effective in maximizing VO2Max increases, although short-interval protocols offered time efficiency. A practical implication of these findings is the potential integration of HIIT programs into the training schedules of Indonesian Air Force personnel to efficiently improve aerobic fitness. Recommendations include the implementation of tailored variations of HIIT protocols and further research in specific military populations.

Abstract

This classroom action research aimed to improve learning outcomes in manipulative movement skills within large ball games among fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 017 Long Kali through the implementation of a differentiated instruction model. The study was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 10 fifth-grade students. Data were collected using psychomotor skill observation sheets and documentation of learning outcomes. A skill test was administered through the activity of hitting a ball over the net as an indicator of manipulative movement mastery in the game context. Data were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The results showed a significant improvement in students' manipulative skills, with mastery learning increasing from 60% in the first cycle to 85% in the second cycle. The application of the differentiated learning model also enhanced students’ active participation, teamwork, and motivation during the learning process. These findings indicate that the differentiated instruction model is effective in improving manipulative movement learning outcomes in large ball games in elementary school physical education.

Abstract

This systematic review and meta-analysis sought to evaluate the efficacy of cold (20-25°C) versus heated (33-40°C) water hydrotherapy in individuals with persistent low back pain (LBP). A thorough search was performed across PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and additional databases for pertinent papers published from January 2018 to May 2025.  Eighteen studies (n=1,547 people) satisfied the inclusion criteria.  Compared to controls, warm water hydrotherapy significantly reduced pain (SMD=-0.82; 95% CI: -1.13 to -0.51; p<0.001) and increased physical function (SMD=0.76; 95% CI: 0.48 to 1.04; p<0.001).  Cold water hydrotherapy also helped with discomfort (SMD=-0.65; 95% CI: -0.92 to -0.38; p<0.001), although it didn’t help with physical function as much.  A direct comparison showed that warm water hydrotherapy was better for physical function (SMD=0.52; p<0.001), but cold water worked faster to relieve pain.  Both methods work well for treating persistent low back pain, but the choice of treatment depends on how the patient presents and how they respond to water temperature.
