Abstract

The study tries to investigate the utilization of intellectual creative skills within the framework of the triarchic theory of intelligence in reading activities. The subject in which the theory was applied was Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian). This experimental study involved randomly selected seventh graders of Junior High School. There were three hypotheses to test in the study. First, the order of the three types of intellectual skills suggested in the triarchic theory of intelligence presented during training as well as during instruction has effects on students' performance in attempting creative solution to problems derived from reading texts in the subject of Bahasa Indonesia. Multiple comparisons were employed to test this hypothesis. Second, there is a significant difference in creative problem solving performances between the experimental and the control groups. Analysis of variance was carried out to test this hypothesis. Third, scholastic aptitude has a role in predicting the creative problem solving performance. ANACOVA was employed to test this hypothesis. The results show that the students show the best performance when they are trained using the thinking order of practice-synthesis-analysis

Abstract

Flexibility, Feedback, and Combinational Method in the Teaching and Learning of Rolling Exercise. This article reports on a research project looking at the relationships of combinational teaching method, flexibility, and feedback and the students’ achievement in learning backward roll exercise. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 96 out of 116 male students of SMP (Junior High School) Pax Christi Manado. The results show that 1) there was no interaction between combinational teaching method and flexibility in improving the students’ learning achivement, 2) there was no interaction between combinational teaching method and feedback in promoting the students’ learning achievement, 3) there was no interaction between flexibility and feedback in raising the students’ learning achievement, 4) there were some interactions among combinational teaching method, flexibility, and feedback in ameliorating the students’ learning outcomes, 5) 4-stage combinational method had better influence on the students’ learning than that of 7-stage combinational method, 6) above-average flexibility (suppleness) resulted in better learning than below-average flexibility did, and 7) detailed feedback allowed for better students’ achievement than that of sketchy feedback.

Abstract

This study is intended to develop a model of Junior High School which can accommodate the teaching-learning needs of SLTP located in a remote area. The model is intended to be one which best utilizes the infrastructure and social resources or potential of the area. This study purposively selected the village of Leling in the sub-district of Kalumpang, Mamuju, South Celebes as the setting to carry out the exploration and action. The exploratory activities show that the selected area has the necessary resources to implement the model of SLTP using web-partnership management. This web-partnership management promotes the potential of the area so that the related parties are engaged in planning, implementing, and controlling the educational programs to achieve their shared goals. The model development activities realize the model consisting of organizational structure in the form of web the school elements or units of which, to reach the student home-base, are headed by a school associate principals. Within the context of village, the school associate principals are autonomous in their activities. Even though the model is established in view of maximizing the potential of remote areas, the model can also be transferred to different and not necessarily remote areas.

Abstract

The study tries to identify the difficulties and weaknesses surfacing in moral education and assess the need for and the possibility of the implementation of constructivist teaching approaches in moral education. Using a qualitative design, specifically, grounded theory, data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and focused group discussions from the subjects which were selected using snow-ball technique within the setting of Madiun Municipality. The data were analyzed using an interactive data analysis model. The results show that there have been serious weaknesses and difficulties in moral education brought about by internal and external factors. While the former includes those residing in the teachers (e.g., lack of innovations), school system and facilities, curriculum, and teaching-learning process, the latter encompasses such factors as limited support from the (local) government, school committee, and students’ parents, and the socio-culture of the society. This study also reveals the need for the implementation of alternative instructional strategies. In this regard, the study proposes the use of constructivist paradigm in moral education.
