The findings showed that all respondents generally regarded team leader as the most important role, while supervisor was rated as the least important. Of the 20 tasks observed, generally revealed that a principal should work cooperatively with staff to ensure more effective use of their skills. While, the task of a principal in making decisions on staff development programs was not necessarily expected by the practicing teachers. All respondents considered organization coordination as the most important area within which a principal should provide more leadership, while curriculum or instructional improvement and innovation was regarded as the least important

Abstract

Content and techniques of its presentation are currently the two basic problems in the elementary school geometry. No serious solution to the problems may make the position of geometry in the curriculum weak which in turn leads to the students' poor mastery of geometry. Sufficient content of Geometry should now be included appropriately in the curriculum by considering the intellectual developmental stages of the students and relevant learning theories. In this case, Piaget's theories of cognitive development and Van Heile's geometry learning theories should be considered in solving the problems

Abstract

College students are expected to read a lot of information both in courses that they take and in their lives. They are also expected to be able to extract the ideas conveyed in their reading passages and textbooks. This study attempted to develop a technique of making a summary which was useful for helping students read for learning and to apply it in a reading class. The technique of summarizing resulted from the development was called Content-Based Summarizing Technique (CBST) and it was then applied in a reading classroom to know the applicability. I was found that CBST could be applied in a reading class and that the ability of the students in making summaries could be considered good.

Abstract

The study is aimed at finding out students' thinking processes, differences in the students' cognitive development, and differences in the students' cognitive patterns in relation to the teachers' and parents' settings. The population includes SMP students in Yogyakarta. A sample of 1069 students is taken randomly from each class. A multiple choice test of Piaget's cognitive development is given to the sample. Split-half technique of internal consistency is used to estimate the test reliability. Research findings indicate that older students have higher cognitive development than those in rural areas, male students have higher cognitive development than female ones, and students whose parents are more educated have higher cognitive development. One of the implications is that teachers' and parents' encouragement help improve students' cognitive development. Students, especially in the rural areas, therefore, need encouragement to improve their cognitive development

Abstract

The research purpose was to describe the growth rate of student of State Elemtary School (SDN) in Bandarlampung from 1991/1992 until 1994/1995. In collecting data we conducted interview and studied documents. The data were analyzed in percentages. The result showed that the number of students who attended elementary schools were decreasing, except at North Telukbetung and Kedaton Subdistricts where students who attended elemtary schools were increasing. The condition in Bandarlampung caused many teachers not to have classes, because there were too many teachers. Also the research found out that in every subdistrict there was lack of classroom. Total number of classroom needed in Bandarlampung was 563. These caused the same rooms to be used by different students of different classes.
