Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to describe variations of imperative sentences used by teachers in learning-teaching interactions. Applying a descriptive qualitative design, the study involved Bahasa Indonesia teachers in SMP 13 Malang. By nonparticipant observations, data were recorded, selected, identified and classified for a final conclusion. The result revealed that there were many variations of imperative sentences used by the teachers in their learning-teaching interactions. The calssification of variations could be based on linguistic indicators, delivery strategies, and content of massages

Abstract

Bangsa Indonesia harus bersiap diri menyongsong masyarakat industri dan era perdagangan bebas. Kualitas manusia Indonesia harus ditingkatkan dengan pendekatan perspektif terpadu. Pendidikan merupakan merupakan salah saru alternatif strategik. Diperlukan setidak-tidaknya dua kebijakan nasional. Pertama, perlu ada keputusan politik sebagai upaya pengukuhan kebijakan mandataris tentang pendidikan sebagai salah satu kunci keberhasilan pembangunan sumber daya manusia dalam PJP II. Kedua, diperlukan strategi operasional pengelolaan pendidikan yang dipusatkan kepada penyempurnaan pendekatan ke arah pendekatan perspektif terpadu dan kepada penetapan prioritas pendidikan.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the profile of physical education teachers of Senior High School (SMU) in terms of their status, experience, and teaching load. The sample were 38 physical education teachers of Senior High School in Malang. Data were collected by observation and questionnaire, and analyzed in descriptive level by percentages and Chi-square. The results revealed that 66,33% of the teachers had achieved a good performance in teaching-learning process. There were no differences in teaching performance between part-time teachers and full-time teachers, between experienced teachers and inexperinced teachers, and between teachers with low load (< 18 hours/week) and techers with high load (>= 18 hours/week).

Abstract

This study was aimed at comparing rhetorical strategies used in the Indonesian persuasive essays written by students majoring in Indonesian and those majoring in English. Two groups were involved: the third-year students of the Department of Indonesian Language and Literature and the fourth-year students of the English Department of the State University of Malang. They were asked to write persuasive essays on whether violence on TV programs should be restricted. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the rhetorical strategies in Indonesian persuasive essays written by students majoring in Indonesian and those written by students majoring in English. In general, the essays written by the students majoring in English were more successful than those written by the students majoring in Indonesian in terms of the superstructure of argument, the Toulmin model of informal reasoning, and the persuasive appeals.

Abstract

The purpose of this study are to discover the learning styles, and the language learning strategies most preferred, correlation among the variables exists, and the degree of influence each independent variable exerts on the dependent variables. For data collection, the Barsch Learning Styles Inventory and the Strategy Inventory of Language Learning were distributed to 156 students of English at the University of Sriwijaya, Palembang. The results showed that: (1) visual is the most preferred learning style, whereas metacognitive ang effective are the most preferred language learning strategies; (2) certain independent variables have a significant correlation with certain dependent variables, for example, visual with memory, auditory with cognitive, tactile with affective, and semester with compensation; (3) females use a greater variety of language learning strategies than males; and (4) semester has a significant correlation with compensation but not with other strategies

Abstract

This experimental study was aimed at testing the effectiveness of learning services model in regular classrooms and special classrooms for students experiencing learning difficulties in Mathematics. A factorial design was implemented in this study. The subjects consisted of 150 students drawn from 171 students of 12 State Primary Schools (SDN) in Surakarta Municipality. Data were collected by achievement test, intelligence test, and documentary studies. The analysis of covariance and Scheffe test were applied to analyse the data. It was concluded that learning services in regular and special classrooms were more effective than those in normal classrooms to help students ecperiencing learning difficulties in Mathematics

Abstract

This research was conducted to describe the oral communication skill in the instructional context of primary school teachers of East Java. An evaluative-survey design was implemented in this study. The sample consisted of 120 teachers from four Karasidenans of East Java selected by area sampling. Data were gathered by observations and recording. The mean measures, analysis of variance and t-test were used to analyze the data. The results indicated that the oral communication skill in the instructional context of primary school teachers was unsatisfactory. In certain aspects there were differences in the level of the skill among subject matters and also between urban and rural teacbers. The skill of urban teachers was higher than the skill of rural teachers.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh konteks visual terhadap pemahaman wacana. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode experimen, dengan rancangan kelompok uji-pasca saja (Posttest-Only Control Group Design). Pada kelas eksperimen, siswa diberi konteks visual sebelum membaca, sedangkan kelas kontrol tidak diberi konteks visual. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman wacana siswa yang diberi konteks visual adalah lebih tinggi daripada siswa yang tidak diberi konteks visual. Dari hasil penelitian tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahawa pemberian konteks visual sebelum membaca memberikan pengaruh penting dalam pemahaman wacana

Abstract

This study id the first of three year project trying to develop a model of educating gifted students in regular schools. The sample consisted of first year gifted students in State Senior High Schools (SMUN) in Boyolali and Karanganyar. In the first phases, teachers were asked to nominate approximately the best 10% of their students who were then validated by intelligence and creativity test. The researchers also collected data of the students' scores in secondary schools examination and administered The Learning Style Inventory. The result of the study showed positive correlations between inteligence, secondary school achievement, and creativity. Data on students' learning preferences were also obtained. Giftedness was then determined based on their scores on creativity and intelligence tests, i.e. those who scored at least 1 SD above the mean in creativity test and had at least a percentile rank of 90 in intelligence tests

Abstract

This study is designed to know the problems faced by elementary school teachers to get a promotion by the credit points system, their abilities in doing activities evaluated by the system, and their suggestions on its implementation. The population is elementary school teachers in Depok, Sleman. A sample of 246 teachers is drawn randomly from the population. Data are collected by administering a questionnaire, and analyzed in percentages. The result shows that there are internal andexternal-bureaucratic problems faced by the teachers. According to the teachers, it is easy to teach, to guide their pupils, and to do other supportive activities. Professional development is supposed to be a difficult activity. They suggest that there must be a deregulation in promotion proposal and an automatic promotion system.
