Abstract

Sharia banking has been a significant influence on the Indonesian economy since 1992, but its growth remains very slow. This requires in-depth analysis to address these challenges. This study aims to determine the opportunities for market share development in Sharia banking in Indonesia through a SWOT analysis. The research method employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through case studies, literature reviews, observations, and interviews with relevant stakeholders. The results of this study examine four SWOT elements: five Strengths, five Weaknesses, four Opportunities, and four Threats, from Sharia banking business operations. The first market share development strategy, Strength–Opportunity (SO), yields three strategic points; the second, Weakness–Opportunity (WO), yields four strategic points; the third, Strength–Threat (ST), yields three strategic points; and the fourth, Weakness–Threat (WT), yields three strategic points. The implications of this research are to provide input on the market share development strategy of the Bojonegoro branch of Bank Syariah, strengthen Islamic financial literacy, and support the implementation of the roadmap for the development and strengthening of Indonesian Islamic banking 2023-2027. Abstract

This research aims to analyse the role of ecological ethics in the financial statements of Islamic banks and its implications for sustainable economic development. Building on the foundation of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, which emphasises justice, balance, and environmental protection, this research develops a conceptual framework that integrates stakeholder theory, the triple bottom line, and ESG principles within the context of Islamic finance. The method used is a qualitative-descriptive approach with a critical analysis of international and national literature, as well as the development of a conceptual model that explains the relationship between ecological accountability, reporting transparency, and economic stability. The research findings indicate that integrating ecological ethics into financial reports can strengthen the legitimacy of Islamic banks, increase investor confidence, and contribute significantly to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, there is still a gap between formalistic reporting practices and the normative ideals of ecological ethics, which has the potential to lead to the risk of greenwashing. This research recommends the need for more inclusive regulations regarding ecological aspects in Sharia reporting standards, as well as encouraging the strengthening of digital innovation for more accountable transparency. This finding enriches the literature on Islamic financial accountability and provides a basis for public policy in strengthening the role of Islamic banks in the sustainable economic ecosystem

Abstract

This study aims to examine the differences between the application of the interest-based system in conventional banks and the profit-sharing mechanism in Islamic banks in Riau Province during the 2019–2024 period. The distinction between the two systems is not only related to legal and Sharia principles but also includes the level of returns received by customers, the financial performance of banks, and the risk profile borne by the institutions. The research employs a quantitative approach with a comparative design, utilizing secondary data from annual financial reports and official publications of the Financial Services Authority (OJK), as well as primary data from the profit-sharing ratios (nisbah) of Bank Riau Kepri Syariah and the deposit interest rates of conventional banks operating in Riau. Data analysis was conducted using difference tests (t-test/Mann–Whitney) and panel regression to examine the effect of the return system on financial performance, measured through indicators such as Return on Assets (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), Net Interest Margin (NIM) or Net Margin Syariah, efficiency ratio (BOPO), and non-performing loan/financing ratios (NPL/NPF). The results are expected to reveal significant differences in the return levels and stability between Islamic and conventional banks, while also providing insights for regulators, banking practitioners, and the public in understanding the economic implications of these two systems.

Abstract

The large-scale withdrawal of funds by Muhammadiyah from Bank Syariah Indonesia in 2024 created liquidity pressure and raised concerns regarding the resilience of Islamic banking financial performance. This event not only affected short-term funding structures but also had the potential to influence public confidence and the sustainability of Islamic banking intermediation functions. This study aims to analyze the financial performance of Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) in the post-withdrawal period of 2024 using the common size method. The data were obtained from BSI’s quarterly financial statements for 2024 and analyzed using a descriptive quantitative approach. The results indicate that asset, liability, and equity components experienced fluctuations across quarters; however, BSI was able to maintain overall financial stability. Both the balance sheet and income statement exhibit relatively positive trends despite external pressures affecting the bank’s performance. The application of the common size method is proven to be effective in providing a comprehensive and objective overview of the bank’s financial condition. Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of Islamic financing in supporting the sustainability of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) in Indonesia. This research uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with ten MSE actors who are customers of Islamic banks in Kediri Regency. The results show that Islamic financing plays a role not only as a source of business capital but also as a means of spiritual peace for Muslim entrepreneurs. The principles of profit-sharing (mudhārabah and musyārakah) are considered more equitable, although they require a more complex process. Non-financial support such as business assistance and religious guidance from the bank strengthens this relationship. This research implies the need for increased financial literacy and simplification of sharia financing products to be more accessible to MSEs.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the usage behavior of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) based on the BYOND application by BSI. The research problem identifies the factors that play a role in the usage behavior of the BYOND application by BSI through the application of UTAUT, thereby facilitating customers' understanding of using the BYOND application by BSI. The objective of this study is to identify the factors of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), such as performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, and usage interest, in relation to the usage behavior of the BYOND application by BSI in Sukoharjo. The analysis method uses a quantitative approach, and in this study, the required analyses include measurement model evaluation (Outer Model), structural model evaluation (Inner Model), and hypothesis testing, with data processing performed using Smart PLS 3.2. The number of samples required in the study was 96 respondents. The analysis results showed that only social influence, facilitating conditions, and usage interest had a positive effect on usage behavior. Conversely, performance expectancy and effort expectancy have no influence on usage behavior. Kata Kunci : UTAUT, Mobile Banking Application, BYOND by BSI, Behavioral Intention

Abstract

This study analyzes the comparison of stability between Islamic banks and conventional banks in Indonesia using the financial indicators CAR, NPF, FDR, and ROA for the period 2019-2024. This period was chosen because it is crucial for the banking sector. The approach used is a quantitative method using secondary data from the banks' annual financial statements. The sample was determined by targeted selection, resulting in 11 Islamic banks and 14 conventional banks being selected. The analysis was performed using a descriptive statistical approach and the Mann-Whitney test. The results show that Islamic banks are superior in terms of CAR and ROA, indicating better capital strength and profitability. However, conventional banks are superior in terms of NPF. In terms of liquidity, both types of banks are relatively balanced. The Mann-Whitney test confirmed significant differences in the CAR variable, but not in NPF, FDR, and ROA. These results have practical implications for bank management to strengthen risk management strategies. In addition, the research findings can serve as a reference for regulators and other stakeholders to formulate adaptive supervisory policies to maintain national financial stability.
