Abstract

This study aimed to develop learning media of pneumatic systems based on computer-assisted learning as an effort to improve the competence of students at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering UNESA. The development method referred to the 4D model design of Thiagarajan comprising the steps of: define, design, develop, and desseminate. The results showed that the expert validation average score included in both categories was 3.54, indicating the learning application acceptable. A limited test showed effective results, namely: (a) Analysis of the data included in the category of learning was good (3.64), indicated by students’ enthusiasm in the learning process; (b) Teaching learning activities were categorized as good, the students actively involved in learning, and the most dominant activity was doing tasks while discussing; (c) Learning objectives were both achieved individually and classically; (d) The students showed a positive response expressed by the students’ interest, excitement, and motivation to follow the learning process.

Abstract

Latest educational media based on mobile application nowadays is an important tool for teaching and learning which can help to attract the students’ attention and the students will be more efficient since they can study by their own anywhere and anytime with  different situations surround them. This paper focuses on the usage of the mobile application in teaching practical skills among catering students. In line with the issues nowadays where the live demonstration is too backdated rather than use the mobile application to enhance the enjoyment of the cooking process in catering classroom. Teaching and learning with the mobile application was perceived to assist the learning process in cooking by following ways: increasing the comprehension of the cooking process and real-time to reassurance in the cooking process, enhancing the enjoyment of the cooking process and acquire new cooking skills. The findings show that the usage of mobile application is at moderate level. On the other hand, the positive implication towards students is at medium level. Overall, for this study, researchers found that the usage of mobile application among catering students was good and perceived positively towards students.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan prestasi mahasiswa pada mata kuliah Teknik Pendingin dan Tata Udara, dengan menggunakan modul pembelajaran berbasis kompetensi. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Program Studi Teknik Elektro FT UNY. Pendekatan yang digunakan melalui penelitian tindakan kelas. Tahap-tahap penelitian tiap siklus meliputi: perencanaan, pelaksanaan tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Subyek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa  program Studi D3 Teknik Elektro yang mengambil mata kuliah Teknik Pendingin dan Tata Udara pada semester ganjil tahun 2008/2009 yang berjumlah 13 orang. Pengumpulan data dengan angket, observasi, dan tes atau pemberian tugas untuk mengetahui prestasi mahasiswa pada mata kuliah tersebut. Analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif. Hasil dari penelitian menggunakan modul Teknik Pendingin dan Tata Udara berbasis kompetensi dapat meningkatkan prestasi mahasiswa. Hal tersebut ditunjukkan oleh perolehan nilai hasil belajar mahasiswa yang telah memenuhi dan melampaui kriteria minimal (nilai C). Hasil nilai selengkapnya adalah sebagai berikut: pada siklus I, yang mendapatkan nilai A- sebanyak 4 orang, nilai B sebanyak 3 orang, nilai C+ sebanyak 3 orang, dan nilai C sebanyak  3 orang, sedang siklus II, nilai A- sebanyak 6 orang, B+ sebanyak 2 orang,  B sebanyak 4 orang, dan B- sebanyak 1 orang.

Abstract

The purposes of this study were testing the significant differences of learning outcomes between group of students who were treated with jigsaw learning method and those who were treated with the conventional method with considering the students’ initial ability. This study was designed with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design. The sampling technique used random assignment. The sample consisted of 63 students. A test was used to measure the initial ability and learning result of the students. The data were analyzed by using a two way Anova method. The results were: (1) the learning outcomes of students in the subject of electronic ignition system maintenance with jigsaw learning method was better than the students treated with conventional learning; (2) based on the learning outcomes in the subject of electronic ignition system maintenance, a group of students with high initial ability was better than a group of students with medium and low initial ability; (3) there was not interaction between learning method and initial ability towards learning outcomes students. It means, the excellence of jigsaw learning and conventional learning in improving learning outcomes for the subject of electronic ignition system maintenance do not depend on students' initial ability.

Abstract

This study aims to produce media products that use culinary-based electronic magazines on blended learning. The method used in this study was research and development. The procedure of media development used the Four-D model to produce learning media based on blended learning. The stages of the study consisted of define, design, development, and dissemination. The stages of development used alpha testing for product validation by learning experts, material experts, and media experts. After that the stages of dissemination, beta testing was performed by testing the product on users in small groups. The subjects of this study were students in foodservice expertise. The results of this study showed that the alpha tests on aspects of media and materials and learning both obtained very high criteria. Furthermore, the average score of all aspects was more than 89% with reasonable criteria. while the beta test results indicated high criteria with the average of students’ reached 86%, categorized as feasible.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji penerapan modul pada pembelajaran Bahan Teknik Dasar, sebagai media belajar dalam upaya peningkatan proses pembelajaran di Jurusan Pendidikan Teknik Mesin FT UNY. Penelitian dilakukan dengan pendekatan penelitian research and development (RD). Tempat penelitian di Jurusan Pendidikan Teknik Mesin Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. Waktu penelitian dimulai dari bulan Mei-November 2009. Responden penelitian adalah dosen pengampu Bahan Teknik Dasar dan mahasiswa angkatan 2009. Pengumpulan data dengan instrumen angket dan  tes hasil belajar.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Penulisan Modul Bahan Teknik Dasar dikembangkan dari kurikulum dan silabi mata kuliah Bahan Teknik Dasar yang memiliki struktur terdiri dari halaman sampul, pengantar, judul pokok bahasan, standar kompetensi, kompetensi dasar, tujuan pembelajaran, kegiatan belajar, kunci jawaban dan daftar pustaka. Penulisan modul merupakan proses penyusunan materi pembelajaran yang dikemas secara sistematis sehingga siap dipelajari untuk mencapai kompetensi atau sub kompetensi. Tahapan penulisan modul bahan teknik dasar meliputi analisis kebutuhan modul, penyusunan draft, uji coba, validasi, revisi dan produksi. Modul yang dibuat dapat diterima oleh dosen pengampu dan mahasiswa dalam kategori baik. Terdapat perbedaan pencapaian prestasi belajar antara kelompok yang diberi modul dengan kelompok yang tidak diberi modul. Kelompok mahasiswa yang diberi modul memiliki pencapaian prestasi yang lebih baik.

Abstract

As one of the blended learning forms, a flipped classroom has its specific typology to differentiate itself from other blended learning models. Aims to support student-centered learning activities in which self-direction in learning might be fostered, the effect of flipped classroom scenario to students' self-direction had never been reviewed. This work, performed at the University of Strasbourg, involved lecturers who teach informatics and physics engineering course. First, observations of the online learning environments and face-to-face classes had been managed. Second, a pre and post-test questionnaire, which aimed to measure its participants' progress on self-direction, had been fulfilled by the students. This study pointed out that students enrolled in a translated flipped classroom course had not developed their self-direction competence. However, the significant progress of students' self-direction in learning has been documented among students enrolled in a course with an interactive flipped classroom scenario.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine how production units can be used effectively as an entreprenuership learning resource to increase the entrepreneurial learning motivation, to clarify the content of the entrepreneurial learning materials and to provide direct experiences for the Vocational High Schools students in Yogyakarta. This study is survey research with quantitative approach. The population of this study were 1.995 students of grade XI and grade XII at 17 Vocational High School in Yogyakarta. 333 students were selected as the sample. Questionnaires and documentation were used for collecting the data. The data was analysed through quantitative descriptive analysis using the Microsoft Excel software. The result of this study indicated that: (1) Production units were effective to increase the intrinsic entrepreneurial learning motivation of the students (2) Production units were ineffective to increase the extrinsic entrepreneurial learning motivation of the students (3) Production units were ineffective to clarify the entrepreneurial learning materials (4) Production units were ineffective to provide direct experiences for the students.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe purposes of the research are to review the application strategies of semi-research learning on the students’ understanding of the characteristics of engineering materials and to reveal the role of the students. Also, to determine whether there was any significant difference on the students’ understanding whowere taught by using semi-research learning compared to the conventional one. The research method was quasi-experimental model with parallel or equivalent group, the experimental group and the control group. Each group got pretest before and posttest after the treatment. The study was conducted in Mechanical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Yogyakarta State University from September till November 2012 among 160 students of the first semester  in academic year of 2012-2013. This study was using cluster sampling method by taking one class as control group and one class for experimental group. Data analysis techniques were using descriptive analysis and T-Test. Semi-research learning for the understanding on the characteristics of engineering materials can be conducted through the students’ research assignment. The students were given chance to review based on the literature and to prove through their autonomous research. After they completed their research process, they were asked to have presentation while the lecturer role as the facilitator. Most of the students were glad with this strategy because it made them as active learner to search, explore, prove and utilize their review. This learning model demanded the students to be active, independent, serious, and able to work together, to solve problems based on facts as well as scientific evidence. Also, there was significant difference on the students’ understanding of the characteristics of engineering materials, who were taught by using semi-research compared to the conventional method with the score of mean difference of 10 from 0-70 scale.  Similarly, there was a difference from the mean improvement of 10 points.  Keywords: Semi-research,students’ understanding of nature of engineering materials

Abstract

The objectives of the study were to determine the application procedure of the evaluation instrument of fashion drawing, to analyse the consistency of the evaluation results, and to determine the communicative reporting procedure of the evaluation results in the Department of Tourism of Vocational High Schools in Sleman regency, Yogyakarta. This study was categorised into a survey study. The population of this study were teachers and students. There were 30 samples selected with purposive sampling. There were six teachers as the assessors. The data collection techniques used consistency assessment instruments by examining the index of reliability. The report of the results of Drawing Fashion Design assessment was shown in the profile of the students. The data was analysed using quantitative descriptive with percentages. The consistency of the assessment was examined using cronbach alpha analysis. While the reporting procedure was analysed descriptively based on the calculation of the final score. The results of the study were the application procedure of the evaluation instrument that is started with the preparation of the teachers to provide the assessment instruments that includes the materials, the grid, the test items and the rubric. Based on the criteria, it is in the very good category with a mean score of 56.83. The consistency of the assessment results is in a good category with a mean score of 0,800. Based on the competency profile, The mean score of the students’ assessment result was 77, 3. With the minimum score of 70, it was proved that all of the samples of this study were categorised into competent in fashion drawing.
