Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan, memaparkan dan menganalisis: 1) jenis-jenis represi yang dialami para persona dalam puisi karya beberapa penyair Amerika yang berasal dari etnik non-Anglo-Saxon, yaitu Julia Alvarez, Naomi Shihab Nye, Rhina P. Espaillat, dan lê thį diễm thúy; 2) resistensi yang masing-masing persona lakukan atas represi yang mereka alami; dan 3) bagaimana akhirnya para persona tersebut menemukan jati diri mereka masing-masing sebagai akibat dari represi yang mereka alami dalam kehidupan sehari-hari mereka. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah puisi yang berjudul Bilingual Sestina karya Julia Alvarez, Blood karya Naomi Shihab Nye, Bilingual/Bilingile karya Rhina P. Espaillat, dan to my sister lê thi diem trinh shrapnel shards on blue water karya  lê thį diễm thúy. Data diperoleh dengan teknik membaca dan mencatat karya-karya tersebut dan dianalisis dengan teori postkolonialisme dan sumber-sumber yang relevan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa represi yang dialami oleh etnik minoritas ini sebagaimana direpresentasikan oleh persona dalam masing-masing puisi di atas terjadi dalam aspek kehidupan sosial-budaya, ekonomi, dan politik mereka, dan represi tersebut tidak hanya dilakukan oleh etnik mayoritas Anglo-Amerika, namun juga oleh kelompok mereka sendiri. Resistensi yang mereka lakukan pun terjadi dalam bidang yang sama. Jati diri yang mereka temukan berpijak pada resistensi yang mereka lakukan yang sebetulnya merupakan “counter attack” mereka. Kata kunci: Anglo-Saxon/Amerika, postkolonialisme, represi, resistensi, temuan jati diri                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 THE DIASPORA OF NON-ANGLO-SAXON ETHNICS IN THE ANGLO-SAXON ETHNIC COMMUNITY: BITTERNESS AND ALIENATION AbstractThis study aims at finding, describing, and analyzing: 1) types of repression experienced by the personae in some poems by American writers of non-Anglo-Saxon ethnic origins, i.e. Julia Alvarez, Naomi Shihab Nye, Rhina P. Espaillat, and lê thį diễm thúy; 2) the resistance against the repression they experience; and 3) how they come to their self-recognition on account of the repression which they bear in their everyday life. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The data sources were poems entitled  Bilingual Sestina by Julia Alvarez, Blood by  Naomi Shihab Nye, Bilingual/Bilingile by Rhina P. Espaillat, and to my sister lê thi diem trinh shrapnel shards on blue water by  lê thį diễm thúy. The data were collected by reading and making notes on the works and analyzed by the post-colonial theory and other related sources. The findings show that the repression experienced the ethnic minority as represented by the personae of the poems takes place in their socio-cultural, economic, and political aspects of life, and it is made not only by the ethnic majority of Anglo-Saxon, but also by their own groups. The resistance which they execute also takes place in the same aspects. Abstract

As a cultural dialogue, translation has two main ways: foreignization or domestication. These two translation methods are also reflected in the Indonesian translations of the Tao Te Ching. This paper attempts to analyze the performance of these two translation methods in nine books of Indonesian Tao Te Ching translations, including the title of the book and the main philosophical terms (Dao, De, Ziran, Wuwei). This is a qualitative descriptive study, with literature survey as the main method of data collection. The results show that the tension between the two translation methods in the nine versions of Indonesian translations of the Tao Te Ching are different, reflecting a complex phenomenon. Translation of the title of the book, mostly used combination between foreignization and domestication strategies, kept the book name Tao Te Ching and subtitles that expressed what kind of book was the Tao Te Ching in the translator’s mind. The translations of Dao had a trend of foreignization, while the translations of De were exactly the opposite. The translations of Ziran mostly used domestication strategy, and the translations of Wuwei had a trend of foreignization in some newest translations. Keywords: foreignization, domestication, Indonesian translations, Tao Te Ching STRATEGI FOREIGNISASI DAN DOMESTIKASI DALAM TEKS-TEKS TERJEMAHAN TAO TE CHING BERBAHASA INDONESIA AbstrakSebagai suatu bentuk dialog antarkultur, penerjemahan terutama memunyai dua cara, yakni foreignisasi dan domestikasi. Fenomena kedua metode penerjemahan ini juga muncul dalam teks-teks terjemahan Tao Te Ching berbahasa Indonesia. Artikel ini menganalisis bagaimana fenomena kedua metode penerjemahan ini terjadi di dalam teks-teks terjemahan tersebut yang terdiri atas sembilan versi berbeda dari berbagai tahun terbitan, terutama terkait penerjemahan judul buku dan penerjemahan konsep-konsep utama dalam Tao Te Ching (Dao, De, Ziran, Wuwei). Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian diskriptif kualitatif dengan studi literatur sebagai metode utama pengumpulan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tensi antara kedua metode penerjemahan tersebut dalam teks-teks terjemahan Tao Te Ching berbeda satu dengan yang lain menampilkan fenomena yang cukup rumit. Penerjemahan judul buku kebanyakan menggunakan perpaduan foreignisasi dan domestikasi mempertahankan judul asli Tao Te Ching dan judul kecil yang menunjukkan buku seperti apa Tao Te Ching di benak penerjemah. Penerjemahan kata Dao memunyai kecenderungan foreignisasi, penerjemahan kata De sebaliknya lebih cenderung domestikasi. Penerjemahan kata Ziran lebih banyak menggunakan domestikasi, penerjemahan kata Wuwei ada kecenderungan foreignisasi di beberapa karya terjemahan terbaru. Kata Kunci: foreignisasi, domestikasi, teks Tao Te Ching, Bahasa Indonesia

Abstract

The newspaper enables the readers to obtain enlightenment, particularly moral values. Moral values can be obtained through obituary writings. This study was aimed at elaborating the reference, author’s perspective, technique of collecting material, role assertion, contribution to writing biography, and motive in the obituary. The data were obtained through a documentation technique while the data source was attained from the printed version of the called Kompas Indonesia newspapers from 2015 to 2017. The newspaper was the only one in the country giving this special rubric. The study applied the referential identity method, marker reading technique, and pragmatic identity analysis as well as pedagogic and hermeneutic approach. Results show that the obituary texts in the newspaper are potential to become a learning material in Indonesian language education, particularly in the elementary school. The inspirational figures can further impact on students’ character building. Keywords: obituary, character building, motives, reference, Kompas  PEMBERITAAN OBITUARI DALAM SURAT KABAR INDONESIA AbstrakSurat kabar memungkinkan pembaca mendapatkan pencerahan, khususnya nilai-nilai moral. Nilai-nilai moral dapat diperoleh melalui penulisan berita kematian di surat kabar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguraikan referensi, perspektif penulis, teknik mengumpulkan bahan, peran peran, kontribusi untuk menulis biografi, dan motif dalam berita kematian. Data diperoleh melalui teknik dokumentasi; sementara sumber data diperoleh dari surat kabar cetak bernama Kompas Indonesia pada 2015-2017. Sumber data hanya diambil dari koran Kompas mengingat bahwa Kompas satu-satunya koran yang menyediakan kolom mengenai isu ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode identitas referensial dan teknik marker reading. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode referensial, teknik membaca penanda, dan metode identitas pragmatis serta pendekatan pedagogik dan hermeneutik. Berdasarkan analisis data yang disajikan dalam artikel ini, teks berita kematian berpotensi menjadi bahan pembelajaran dalam pendidikan bahasa Indonesia, khususnya di Sekolah Dasar. Tokoh-tokoh inspirasional dapat lebih jauh berdampak pada pembentukan karakter siswa. Kata kunci: obituari, pembentukan karakter, motif, referensi, Kompas

Abstract

This study aims to explain ecological intelligence contents in electronic Indonesian language course books for junior high school (JHS) students. The methods in the studywere literature review and content analysis. The ecological intelligence contents  in thebooks include: (1) identifying ecosystem components; (2) comprehending the functionsand uses of the components; (3) understanding environmental management systems; (4)understanding environmental values which comprise local wisdom and religious andnormative values; (5) showing concern about environmental destruction and pollution; (6)adapting behavior to the environment; (7) solving problems arising from environmentalimpacts, either individually or collectively; (8) managing/preserving natural resources;and (9) exploiting the environment positively. The ecological intelligence contents are stilldominated by the cognitive aspect and have not emphasized the comprehension, valueinternalization, and application aspects.

Abstract

Native American narratives are often presented through media presenting native American figures. Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee (BMHWK) is a non-fiction history-based film that tells the fate of Native Americans against white colonialism. The key figure in the film, Ohiyesa, is an adaptation of Native American figures from the The Indian Boyhood (TIB) written by Charles Eastman. This article reveals the meaning of the character Ohiyesa in the film Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. This research used an adaptation approach. Data obtained from the exploration of the figure of Ohiyesa in TIB and BMHWK. Data analysis was performed by conducting a comparative analysis of Ohiyesa at TIB and BMHWK. The results of the analysis show: (1) Ohiyesa character was adapted and dominantly raised by the name of Charles Eastman, (2) this character revealed the memory of deprivation of Native American culture, (3) the character functioned as an assimilation agent, and voiced the concept of cultural assimilation by white Americans. Ohiyesa was made an assimilation agent by the American government. With a strong presentation through his success through his role as a doctor and lobbyist, the American government offers a new life expectancy to American society, which is a cultural assimilation. Tokoh kunci dalam film tersebut, Ohiyesa, merupakan adaptasi tokoh pribumi Amerika dari teks The Indian Boyhood (TIB) karya Charles Eastman. Artikel ini mengungkap pemaknaan terhadap tokoh Ohiyesa dalam film Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan adaptasi. Data didapatkan dari eksplorasi tokoh Ohiyesa dalam TIB dan BMHWK. Analisis data dilakukan dengan membandingkan Ohiyesa dalam TIB and BMHWK. Hasil analisis menunjukan bahwa: (1) Karakter Ohiyesa diadaptasi dan secara dominan dimunculkan dengan nama Charles Eastman, (2) Karakter ini mengungkap mengungkap memori perampasan budaya pribumi Amerika, (3) karakter tersebut difungsikan sebagai agen asimilasi, dan menyuarakan konsep asimilasi budaya oleh kulit putih Amerika. Ohiyesa dijadikan agen asimilasi oleh pemerintah Amerika. Dengan pemaparan kuat melalui keberhasilan dia melalui perannya sebagai dokter sekailgus pelobi parlemen, pemerintah Amerika menawarkan harapan hidup baru kepada pribumi Amerika, yaitu sebuah asimilasi budaya. Abstract

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan mengembangkan perangkat pembelajaran berbicara bahasaIndonesia dengan pendekatan komunikatif-kontekstual bagi mahasiswa asing di IAINTulungagung. Desain pengembangan mengunakan model R2D2 (Recursive Reflective Designand Development) dari Willis. Produk yang telah dikembangkandiujicobakan kepada 20mahasiswa BIPA dari Thailand, 2 instruktur BIPA, dan 1 ahli pembelajaran BIPA. Ujiefektivitasdengan rancangan pra-eksperimen, yakni dengan melakukan tes awal dan tesakhir pada kelompoktunggal tanpa kelompok kontrol. Hasil penelitian menunjukkanbahwa 87% pebelajar merasa antusias dan senang karena contoh ungkapan dan dialogyang disajikan dalam buku ajar membantu mereka mampu berbicara bahasa Indonesiadengan lancar. Hasil uji-t menunjukkanperbedaan yang signifikan antara skor tes awaldan tes akhir. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa perangkat pembelajaran yangdikembangkan berpengaruhsecara signifikanterhadap hasil pembelajaran keterampilanberbicara pada mahasiswa asing di IAIN Tulungagung.Kata kunci: keterampilan berbicara, pendekatan komunikatif-kontekstual, BahasaIndonesia untuk Penutur Asing (BIPA)A MODEL OF A LEARNING PACKAGE FOR THE SPEAKING SKILLUSING THE CONTEXTUAL COMMUNICATIVE APPROACHFOR FOREIGN STUDENTSAbstractThis study aims to develop a learning package for the Indonesian language speakingskill using the contextual communicative approach for foreign students at IAINTulungagung. The developmentdesign used the R2D2 (Recursive Reflective Design andDevelopment) model adopted from Willis’s model (1995). The developed product was triedout to 20 BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia untuk Penutur Asing = Indonesian Language for ForeignSpeakers) students from Thailand, 2 BIPA instructors, and 1 BIPA teaching expert. Theeffectiveness testing employed a pre-experimental design by administering a pretest anda posttest to a single group without a control group. The result of the study showed that87% of the students felt enthusiastic and happy because the examples of expressions anddialogs provided in the textbook helped them to speak the Indonesian language fluently.The result of the t-test analysis showed a significant difference between the pretest scoresand the posttest scores. Therefore, it is concluded that the developed learning packagesignificantly affects the speaking skill of the foreign students at IAIN Tulungagung.Keywords: speaking skill, contextual communicative approach, BIPA

Abstract

AbstractThis study was aimed at describing multicultural values, ways of expressing multicultural values, and the dynamics of multicultural values in Indonesian novels ofthe 2000s. The study purposively selected a sample of six novels that intensely carried thetheme of multiculturalism. These were Laskar Pelangi, Larung, Jendela-jendela, Ayat-ayat Cinta,Jepun Negerinya Hiroko, and Partikel. The study used the descriptive qualitative method.The study obtained the following findings. First, there were four main multiculturalvalues:  (a) apreciasion of cultural pluralism, (b) valuing of the principles of humanismand fundamental human rights (FHR), (c) responsibility of the international society, (d)responsibility of the planet earth. Second, multicultural values are expressed throughnarrative elements and become an integral part of the entire story. Third, multicultural values move in the dynamics of locality to nationality and nationality to globality. Indonesian novels of the 2000s express Indonesian people in the contexts of world nationand citizens who are multicultural, having appreciative minds towards cultural pluralism,upholding humanism and FHR, taking responsibilities of sustaining the entirety of theworld and planet earth. Abstract

This study aims to describe forms and meanings of German language composites  and their correspondences in the Indonesian language. This was a qualitative descriptive study. The data were in the form of composites in German sentences in Herman Hesse’s novel Siddharta and its Indonesian translation by Hedy Holzwarth.The data were collected through the reading and writing technique. They were analyzed by the comparison and distribution techniques. The results of the study are as follows. First, there are 268 forms of composites, consisting of the Nullkonfix form, comprising a combination of noun+noun with a total of 161, a combination of adjective+noun with a total of 5, Konfixbeteiligung /-s/ (22 words), Konfixbeteiligung /-n/ (49 words), Konfix beteiligung /-en/ (6 words), Konfixbeteiligung /-er/ (17 words), and Konfixbeteiligung /-r/ (5 words). Second, German language composites are formed through the derivational and inflectional processes. A word formation functions as an attribute in a composite. In the Indonesian language, it is formed through an affixation process. Therefore, it can be concluded that German and Indonesian language composites have similar processes and meaning correspondences.Keywords: German and Indonesian language composites, correspondences

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan pengalaman mahasiswa membaca sastra sebelum mereka mengikuti perkuliahan berbasis strategi tugas dan presentasi dengan setelah mengikutinya di tiga kelas di Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia (JPBSI). Disain pembelajaran membaca sastra dirancang dengan menggunakan pende­ katan­ praktik membaca berbasis tugas dan presentasi. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian eksperimen semu. Disain penelitian yang dipilih adalah desain pretest-posttest. Hasil penelitian sebagai berikut. Pertama, pengalaman mahasiswa membaca karya sastra berada di bawah standar membaca buku KTSP dan Kurikulum 2013. Kedua, strategi tugas dan presentasi berdampak positif terhadap peningkatan pengalaman mahasiswa membaca karya sastra dari 0 buku karya sastra menjadi sesuai standar Kurikulum JPBSI. Ketiga, selisih skor pengalaman membaca karya sastra setelah perlakuan signifikan.Kata kunci: pengalaman membaca karya sastra, perspektif pembelajaran LITERARY READING EXPERIENCE IN THE LEARNING PERSPECTIVEAbstractThis study aimed to find out the difference in students’ literary reading experience before they attended lectures based on assignment and presentation strategies and after they attended them in three classes in the Department of Indonesian Language and Literature (DILL). Literary reading learning was designed using a reading practice approach based on assignments and presentations. This was a quasi-experimental study using the pretest-posttest design. The results of the study were as follows. First, the students’ literary reading experience was below the book-reading standards for the School-Based Curriculum and the 2013 Curriculum. Second, the assignment and presentation strategies had positive impacts on the improvement of the students’ literary reading experience, from 0 literary works to a number satisfying the standard of the DILL Curriculum. Third, there was a significant difference in the score of literary reading experience after the treatment.Keywords: literary reading experience, learning perspective

Abstract

AbstrakPenggunaan istilah “Empat Pilar Berbangsa dan Bernegara” sebagai program sosialisasi MPR RI telah menimbulkan perdebatan. Istilah yang digunakan sejak tahun 2009 ini memberi dampak pada aspek linguistik di antaranya aspek sosiolinguistik, semantik, pragmatik, dan semiotika bahasa. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan persoalan semiotik penggunaan istilah Empat Pilar Berbangsa dan Bernegara oleh MPR RI, yakni Pancasila, UUD 1945, NKRI, dan Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berupa frasa Empat Pilar Berbangsa dan Bernegara. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan inventarisasi data, kategorisasi data, dan klarifikasi data. Metode untuk menganalisa penelitian ini memakai analisis semiotika. Hasil penelitian sebagai berikut. Pertama, istilah “Empat Pilar Berbangsa dan Bernegara” merupakan preposisi unik dan tidak lazim dalam konteks sosiolinguistik masyarakat Indonesia. Kedua, istilah Empat Pilar Berbangsa dan Bernegara yang mengkategorikan Pancasila, UUD 1945, NKRI, dan Bhinneka Tunggal Ika merupakan bentuk kesalahan semantik dan pragmatik. Ketiga, secara aturan penulisan simbol dan tanda, istilah tersebut bertentangan dengan hakikat kedudukan dan fungsi dari Pancasila, UUD 1945, NKRI, dan Bhinneka Tunggal Ika karena dijadikan sebagai satu varian yang sama, yaitu pilar. Keempat, penggunaan istilah Empat Pilar Berbangsa dan Bernegara telah mengacaukan sistem tanda dan simbol, terutama pada makna semiotis Pancasila, UUD 1945, NKRI, dan Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. Kata Kunci: Bahasa, Empat Pilar, Semiotik, Simbol.    PEIRCE SEMIOTIC ANALYSIS IN THE USE OF THE FOUR PILLAR OF LANGUAGE NATION AND STATE OF MPR RI Abstract The application of the term “Four Pillars of the Nation and of the State” as the socialization program of MPR RI evokes debates. This term, which has been used since 2009, gives a significant  impact in many aspects of linguistics, especially in the aspect of sosiolinguistic, semantic, pragmatic, and semiotics of language. This research aims to describe and analyze the problem of semiotics in the use of the Four Pillars of the Nation and of the State by the People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia. The “Four Pillars” referred to by the People's Consultative Assembly consist of Pancasila, 1945 Constitution, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, and Unity in Diversity. The research data is from the phrase “Four Pillars of the Nation and of the State” which is collected by using the data inventory, data categorization, and data clarification. Method of analyzing the data in this research is using semiotic analysis. Result: The results of this study indicate that: first, the term “Four Pillars of the Nation and of the State” is a unique and unusual preposition in the sociolinguistics context of Indonesian society. Second, this term which categorizes Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, and Unity in Diversity becomes a  mistake of the language terminology. It is because they are on the contrary to the semantic and pragmatic aspects. Third, based on the rules of writing the symbols and the sign, the Four Pillars of the Nation and of the State does contradict the position and function Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, the Unitary State of the Republik of Indonesia, and Unity in Diversity originally have, as one exact same variant. Fourth, based on the semiotic aspects, the use of the Four Pillars of the Nation and of the State has disrupted the system of signs and symbols, especially the semiotic meaning of Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, and Unity in Diversity. Keywords: language, four pillars, semiotics, symbol.
