Abstract

This study aims to describe culture shocks experienced by Sabine in terms of forms, causes, and solutions. The data were collected from Dschungelkind by Sabine Kuegler through reading and recording and were categorized, analyzed, and interpreted. The findings are as follows. First, Sabine experiences culture shocks related to daily life. Second, they occur because of her ignorance of daily life customs in a new place, her inability in interaction involving covert cultural aspects, and her ethnocentricity in interaction. Third, she comes from a family full of affection so that she is strong, honest, and accustomed to saying prayers. This enables her to deal with culture shocks. Besides, her close friends and relatives help her solve the problems.Keywords: cultural

Abstract

Dakwah refers to the spreading of Islam and its teachings through various means. Dongkrek, meanwhile, is a traditional artform with Islamic literary value that has been used as a medium for dakwah. This study seeks to describe and explore dongkrek as an artform with Islamic literary value and its use as a medium for dakwah in Madiun Regency. It is a qualitative study, which takes as its case study a dongkrek troupe from Madiun Regency. The main source of data for this study is the dongkrek performance itself; supporting data has been collected from texts and informants. Data collection involved observations, library research, and in-depth interviews with informants. For this study, data analysis was conducted using content analysis and interactive analysis. This study finds that dongkrek is an Islamic literary artform said to have been created by R. Bei Lo Prawirodipuro in 1910. It may be considered an Islamic artform as the lyrics used in performances convey Islamic teachings; it is through these lyrics that Islamic values are conveyed to audiences as a form of dakwah. It is shown that dakwah and dongkrek are complementary, ensuring both the innovativeness of dakwah and the survival of dongkrek. It may thus be said that dongkrek is both a spectator and guiding medium. Keywords: dakwah media, dongkrek, tradition, traditional performance artDONGKREK: SEBUAH SASTRA ISLAM DAN PERTUNJUKAN SENIDI MADIUN JAWA TIMUR AbstrakDakwah adalah cara menyebarkan agama Islam dengan metode yang beragam. Dongkreng adalah salah satu bentuk kesenian tradisional yang dapat digunakan sebagai media dakwah. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk menjelaskan dan mendeskripsikan kesenian dongkrek yang digunakan sebagai media dakwah di Kabupaten Madiun. Penelitian berbentuk penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Studi kasus dilakukan pada kelompok kesenian dongkrek yang ada di Kabupaten Madiun. Sumber data utama dalam penelitian ini adalah bentuk pementasan dongkrek. Sumber data pendukung adalah teks dan informan. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan observasi, studi pustaka, dan wawancara mendalam dengan informan. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan content analysis dan analisis interaktif. Dari hasil penelitian ditemukan bahwa kesenian dongkrek termasuk dalam sastra Islam yang diciptakan oleh R. Bei Lo Prawirodipuro tahun 1910. Disebut kesenian sastra Islam karena dalam kesenian dongkrek terdapat lirik lagu yang memuat tentang ajaran agama Islam. Kesenian dongkrek digunakan sebagai media dakwah dengan mengajarkan syi’ar kepada masyarakat melalui pementasan seni dan budaya. Hal ini seperti yang dilakukan oleh walisongo. Hubungan antara dakwah dan dongkrek adalah saling menguntungkan yaitu pembaruan dalam bidang dakwah serta pelesarian dalam bidang budaya. Dapat dikatakan dongkrek adalah sebagai media tontonan dan tuntunan.Kata kunci: media dakwah, dongkrek, tradisi, seni pertunjukan tradisional

Abstract

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan: (1) tipe struktur semantik soal ceritamatematika kelas rendah di sekolah dasar, dan (2) sumber kesulitan siswa di kawasanpedesaan dalam memahami soal cerita. Sumber data adalah buku teks Matematika untuksiswa kelas rendah. Informan meliputi 821 siswa dan 36 guru di kawasan pedesaanKabupaten Sukoharjo, Karanganyar, Boyolali, dan Klaten. Pengumpulan data dengananalisis dokumen, wawancara, dan tes memahami soal cerita. Data dianalisis denganteknik deskriptif kuantiatif, induksi analitis, perbandingan konstan, dan analisis tipologis.Hasil penelitian sebagai berikut. Pertama, tipe struktur semantik mencakup empatpenunjuk operasi hitung, yakni: (a) penjumlahan, berupa: penggabungan, penyatuan, danperbandingan; (b) pengurangan, berupa: pemindahan, pemisahan, dan perbandingan; (c)perkalian, berupa: penggandaan, kelipatan, dan penyamaan; dan (d) pembagian, berupa:pengelompokan, penyebaran, dan penyamaan. Kedua, sumber kesulitan siswa, yakni: (a)kata tidak berantonim sebagai penunjuk operasi hitung penjumlahan dan pengurangan,(b) frase lebih tua/besar, lebih muda/banyak, dan (c) kata jumlah.Kata kunci: soal cerita matematika, struktur semantik, operasi hitung matematika

Abstract

This research study employs the theory of narrative structure by SeymourChatman. The study aims to describe plot elements comprising kernel and satellite,arrangement, duration, and frequency available in Orang-orang Proyek, a novel byAhmad Tohari.The subject of the study was Orang-orang Proyek (2002, the first impression), anovel by Ahmad Tohari, and the focuses were plot elements covering kernel andsatellite, arrangement, duration, and frequency. The data were collected throughreading and recording. The novel was read and reread and its discourse andsentential and sub-sentential units containing narrative elements were recorded.The data were analyzed using the descriptive qualitative technique.The research findings show that Orang-orang Proyek contains 44 kernels and132 satellites. On the basis of its logical order, it reveals that causality order can beparallel with temporal order. Chronologically, the beginning of the story also results,though not directly, in subsequent events. From the relation between the past and thepresent, the novel shows a tendency that the analeptic occurring before the presentwas almost the same as that occurring after the present. The novel contains 20 externalanachronisms, 18 mixed anachronisms, and 13 internal anachronisms. The durationincludes, from the most to the least, scene, summary, distraction, pause, and ellipsis.The dominance of scene, followed by summary, shows that the narrator’s role in thestory is very small; most parts of the story are expressed through dialogues amongcharacters to make it more interesting. Singular events dominate frequency in thenovel, followed by iterative frequency, multiple-singular frequency, and repetitivefrequency. Dominant singular events make the novel more lively and interesting.Key words: narrative structure, arrangement, duration, and frequency

Abstract

This research study aims to describe the characteristics of the site that includes short stories cyber, the fact of short stories cyber namely plot, character, and setting, and the characteristics of the reader and the author of short stories cyber.The research subjects were short stories cyber in www.kolomkita.com dan  www.kemudian.com that published in April 2008. The data collected through data cards and analyzed by categorizing them in accordance with the predetermined categories.The research finding show that the site that contains short stories cyber determined by its organizer, both vision and personal as admin. Second, sitesthat contain short stories have hardly any cyber script selection process so that cyber short story has some weakness on the resolution of the story, the cultivation of the conflict, climax,character, and setting. A lot of short stories cyber are unfinished and very short. The shortstories writer and reader cyber is a community that found a path from them, by them, andfor them.

Abstract

Masyarakat Jawa memiliki perspektif tersendiri mengenai Bahasa nonverbal (BN) karena latar belakang budayanya. Kajian BN ini menggunakan teori etnopragmatik dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data adalah warga masyarakat Umbul Harja, Yogyakarta. Data berupa tuturan yang didukung BN. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mendeskripsikan wujud BN, fungsi BN, dan makna pragmatik BN. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan lewat observasi, wawancara, dan perekaman. sedang analisis data melalui langkah identifikasi data, klasifikasi, dan interpretasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adalah sebagai berikut. (1) Wujud BN bahasa Jawa meliputi bahasa dinamis yang berupa gerakan kepala dan bagaian-bagiannya, gerakan tangan dan bagian-bagiannya; wujud BN statis meliputi postur tubuh, warna kulit, warna rambut, bentuk hidung, bentuk bibir, dan status social. (2) Fungsi BN adalah untuk menggerakkan, menyetujui, menolak,  mengkritik, menyuruh, meminta, menjaga penampilan,  memberi penekanan atas kepuasan, memberi ucapan selamat jalan, menunjukkan status sosial, dan menjaga kehormatan. (3) Makna pragmatik BN dinamis mencakup persetujuan, perintah halus, penolakan tidak langsung, penolakan langsung, senyuman lamis. Di pihak lain, BN statis makna pragmatiknya adalah menunjukkan status sosial, menjaga penampilan , memberi kritik secara tidak langsung, dan menyampaikan pujian.  Kata kunci: bahasa nonverbal, pragmatik, konteks, etnopragmatik  JAVANESE COMMUNITY PERSPECTIVES ON THE USE OF NONVERBAL LANGUAGE: A CASE STUDY OF ETNOPRAGMATICS AbstractJavanese people have their own perspectives on Non-verbal Language (NvL) because of their cultural backgrounds. This NvL study uses the ethnopragmatic theory in qualitative descriptive methods. Data sources are residents of the East Celeban community, Umbul Harja, Yogyakarta. Data are in the form of speech supported by NvL. The purpose of the study is to describe the form of NvL, the function of NvL, and the pragmatic meaning of NvL. Data are collected through observation, interviews, and recording. The data analysis steps include data identification, classification, and interpretation. The results of the study show that (1) the manifestation of the Javanese NvL includes dynamic languages, including head movements and parts and hand movements and parts. Static NvL manifestations include body posture, skin color, hair color, nose shape, lip shape, and social status; (2) NvL functions include moving, approving, refusing, criticizing, ordering, asking, maintaining appearance, emphasizing satisfaction, saying goodbye, showing social status, and maintaining honor; and (3) pragmatic meaning of dynamic NvL includes approval, subtle commands, indirect rejection, direct rejection, and dynamic smiles. Meanwhile, the static NvL pragmatic meaning is showing social status, maintaining appearance, giving criticism indirectly, and expressing praise. Keywords: nonverbal language, pragmatics, context, ethnopragmatics

Abstract

This study aims to describe the factors, ideological reconstruction process, and political reimagination process in a nationhood phenomenon of the reunification of Germany as anation and a state. The data source was Rabet, Runtuhnya Jerman Timur, a novel by MartinJankowski. The study employed the perspective of new historicism studies through threesteps of analysis, namely the ideological dimension, discursive practice at the time theevents occurred, and discursive practice in the present context. The results of the studysuggest that the reunification of Germany as a nation is based on three factors, namely: (1) the presence of collective consciousness among the citizens of East Germany and WestGermany to live together after they have lived apart for decades; (2) the awareness of theimportance of ideological reconstruction for the country to be built, that is the presence ofalternative political ideology in the third way; and (3) the political reimagination drivenby racial dimension awareness enabling freedom to grow, violent acts to disappear, andwelfare to be realized as envisioned ideals.

Abstract

This study aims to describe discourse structure aspects, discourse-makingcomponents, and discourse context of judicial minutes and verdicts by Mahkamah Konstitusi Republik Indonesia. The focus was on the discourse of judicial minutes and verdicts by Mahkamah Konstitusi Republik Indonesia regarding the test of the substance by DPD on Keppres No. 185/M/2004. The study was conducted by employing the discourse analysis approach, in terms of the micro-structural and macro-structural aspects. The conclusions are as follows. First, the structure of theminutes consists of the cover, information, and content, while that of the verdicts consists of the title and number, heading, inquirer and responder data, problems, responses, problem focuses, judge verdicts, different opinions, and signatures. Second, the discourse-making components in the judicial minutes and verdicts by MKRI comprise long sentences, legal language registers, parallelisms, honorifics, repetitions, and conjunctions. Third, the discourse context consists of the history of the existing conflicts among DPD, the government, and DPR, and the context of the minutes and verdicts based on the social context.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan meningkatkan kemampuan menulis peserta didik Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP) Minggir, Sleman, Yogyakarta melalui penggunaan kontekstualisasi pemebelajaran menulis. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, penelitian ini melibatkan 32 orang peserta didik sebagai subjek penelitian dan seorang guru bahasa Inggris sebagai kolaborator peneliti.  Jenis penelitian ini dikategorikan ke dalam bentuk penelitian tindakan kelas dengan menerapkan tiga siklus selama pelaksanaan pengambilan data penelitian. Terdapat tiga jenis teknik pengumpulan data penelitian yang digunakan, yakni teknik observasi kelas, wawancara, dan penyebaran kuesioner yang selanjutnya diikuti dengan kondensasi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan yang dimaksudkan untuk mendeskripsikan data kualitatif yang diperoleh dari pengumpulan data di lapangan. Analisis deskriptif kuantitatif  juga digunakan untuk menyajikan kemampuan menulis peserta didik yang diperoleh melalui tes menulis teks-teks bahasa Inggris. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, disampikan empat temuan utama. Pertama, penggunaan  teknik kontekstualisasi pembelajaran menulis mengubah tingkah laku peserta didik dalam hal motivasi belajar menulis teks-teks bahasa Inggris dan keterlibatan peserta didik dalam pembelajaran menulis yang sebekumnya peserta terlihat pasif menjadi aktif. Kedua, sebagian besar peserta didik merasa mudah dalam mengekspresikan gagasan dengan mengacu pada kontekstualisasi tugas-tugas menulis teks-teks bahasa Inggris yang disampaikan. Ketiga, miskonsepsi dan kesalahan gramatikal dapat diminimasi dalam proses mengkonstruksi teks-teks bahasa Inggris. Keempat, dengan mengacu pada data kuantitatif, skor rerata dari isi, pengorganisasian paragraf, pemilihan kosakata, penggunaan bahasa, dan aspek penulisan mengalami peningkatan yang cukup tajam. Kata kunci: kontekstualisasi, pengetahuan skematik, kemampuan menulis AbstractThis study is aimed at improving students’ writing ability of junior high school at Minggir, Sleman, Yogyakarta Minggir, Sleman, Yogyakarta through contextualization practices. To gain the objective, this study voluntarily involved 32 students of junior high school at Minggir, Sleman, Yogyakarta as the subjects of this study and one English language teacher serving as the collaborator. This study applied a classroom action research design with the utilization of three cycles during the data collection practices. Techniques of observation, interview, and questionnaire distribution were employed to gather data followed by data condensation, data display, and conclusion making which were meant to qualitatively analyze the gathered data. Quantitative descriptive analysis was also employed to analyze students’ writing ability with the employment of writing test. The findings document four issues. First, there was a change of behavior on the part of students in the area of motivation to learn and involvement in writing practices. Second, the majority of students found easier to express their ideas in reference to the contextualization practices applied by English language teachers. Third, mis-conception and grammatical mistakes could be minimized in the process of constructing English texts. Fourth, with regard to quantitative data, the average scores of the content, paragraph organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics increased sharply. Key words : contextualization, schematic knowledge, writing ability
