Abstract

The movements of multiculturalism, multiethnic and multireligion in the Australian socio- demographic—as implication of migrant policy in the ’1960s—have supported the Australian government to conduct socio-political engineering based on multiculturalism as the state ideology. This policy is pointed to eradicate value and norm conflicts which have frequently existed in between ‘white people,’ in one hand, and immigrants, on the other. Australia seems more successful in handling over such conflict, as indicated from low- rate presentation of political, ethnical and religious-affairs harshness, including terrorism, compared to other countries, especially its neighbors. This implication of multiculturalism has also emerged in the progress of Muslim society which is protected by their cultural heritages that until now still endure and develop, although are still suspected as having conflict potencies, particularly Islamophobia attitudes from the Australian non- Muslims. There are positive and negative effects in the Australian policy of multiculturalism.

Abstract

This paper discusses the trials of life which in the Qur’an are called slander. The dominant meaning of slander is a troublesome ordeal. Bad trials here tend to be collective trials rather than individuals. That is, this word is more often used by a certain group in this case are infidels to attack other groups, namely Muslims. This is because many verses about libel fall during the period of makkiyah. Therefore, the meaning of slander that often appears in the Qur’an is chaos, persecution, assault, murder, kufr, expropriation of wealth and the like. Defamation as a test of one's faith is a sunnatullah that cannot be rejected or avoided by anyone. The quality of one's faith will be seen if it has been faced with various difficulties. To get comprehensive results from this discussion, the authors use the thematic method. This method tries to raise various issues and concepts of the Qur’an which ultimately gain an understanding that refers to a unified view of nature and life.

Abstract

This article is explanation on Ibn Qutayba in giving a solution for the problem when the content of Ḥadīths (Sunna) is contradictory to or conflicted with the Qur’ān, reason, logic or to the principles of natural sciences. The experts of Ḥadīth mentioned them as the contradictive Ḥadīths. In this respect, Ibn Qutayba observed that the contradictive Ḥadīth can be given a solution in many sides. If the contradiction happened thence one needs an interpretation until the understanding of the Ḥadīth remains suitable to the purpose of al-Qur’ān. In his masterpiece work Ta’wīl Mukhtalif al-Ḥadīth, he has noted many examples of the contradictive Ḥadīth and gave the ways to solve them in order the Ḥadīth easily to comprehend by the umma. He offered various approaches to the contradictive Ḥadīth, some of them are rational and logical, but some of them are irrational and difficult to understand by today modern society.

Abstract

This paper discusses the typology of the reception of taḥfīẓ al-Qur’ān among IIQ Jakarta students. This paper departs from the diversity of one's motivation in memorizing the Qur’an. Especially, in recent years, many television programs have appeared on the program taḥfīẓ al-Qur’ān. The skills of children in memorizing the verses of the newspaper simultaneously enliven the universe of social media, thus encouraging parents’ enthusiasm to form their children as hāfiẓ/ah. Various motivations certainly become their own color. To find out the typology of their reception of the taḥfīẓ al-Qur’ān, the author uses a phenomenological analysis approach that was conceived by Edmund Husserl. The results of this study concluded that Jakarta IIQ female students were reception taḥfīẓ al-Qur’ān functionally, aesthetically, and exegetically. Various receptions conducted by Jakarta IIQ students when viewed from outside the structure shows that IIQ Jakarta students are very religious. They make taḥfīẓ the Qur’ān as the main routine in their daily activities. Meanwhile, when viewed from its structure, it contains the message of the truth of miracles kalām Allāh and the guarantee of the owner of His words for people who memorize the Qur’ān based on the logic of pragmatic epistemology.

It also views the challenge and its future in Indonesia. The progress achieved by sufi until now is considered, as well its weaknesses as its strengths, and comparing this with the situation outside the country, and assuming that in the case of Indonesia, such weaknesses and strengths might be relatively the same. Furthermore, the paper displays the example of one particular sufi order that still plays an important role in Indonesia, namely the Tarīqa Qādiriyya wa Naqshbandiyya in West Java. In addition, considering the current religious climate in the country, we may perhaps draw some conclusions as to prospects for sufi in Indonesia.

The globalization of Reiki on healing attunement that is generated from the Reiki’s meditation technique also has its influences in Islamic traditional wisdom. This Reiki global movement has apparently invoked the traditional syncretistic style of some Indonesian Muslim. In turn, this situation creates political tension between the radical and puritan Islam vis a vis the Muslim Reiki’s masters. Using comparative studies, this paper is based on the current phenomenon of Islam engaged with Reiki and attempts to explore the politics of Reiki as a global product and its relation to the responses within Indonesian Muslim, historically and sociologically, through which we can observe the dynamics dialogue in practice between Buddhism and Islamic Sufism.

Abstract

Feuerbach is considered as a creator of philosophical basis on atheism. Even though based on Germany idealism, mainly on Hegel, Feuerbach even refused Hegel’s concept of demythology or rationalization for Christianity faith, since the concept is regarded as religious victory over philosophy, or similar to cover Christian theology with philosophy dress. Feuerbach, consequently, established a new philosophy, a project which bases on a concept of human being (I) who would be noteworthy when there is another human being (Thou), to reject the eixistence of God and religion. For believe in God and religion is actually man’s belief in infinity and perfectness, hence, Feuerbach made ‘human togetherness’ as the infinity to replace God’s and religion’s position.

Abstract

This writing is focused on the polemic that occurred between Harun Nasution and H.M. Rasjidi, particularly in the problems of philosophy and theology. In terms of philosophy, it is focused on reason and revelation (al-‘aql wa al-manqūl), whereas of theology is focused on the relevance of Mu‘tazila rational theology. In the view of Harun Nasution, reason can know God (ma‘rifa Allāh), the liability to know God (wujūd ma‘rifa Allāh), to know good and evil (ma‘rifa al-ḥusn wa al-qubḥ) and the liabilities to do good deeds and liabilities to avoid misconduct (wujūb i‘tināq al-ḥasan wa ijtināb al-qabīḥ), while the revelation serves the details of those are known by reason. In the view of H.M. Rasjidi, reason can only know God, while the others can only be known through revelation. Harun Nasution considers that the rational theology of Mu‘tazila is needed as alternative solution to overcome the backwardness of Muslims. H.M. Rasjidi considers that the rational theology of Mu‘tazila is considered dangerous to the power of faith.
