Abstract

Abstract¾ As a supporter of offshore supply logistics operations, crew boat moving in high speed needs the hull design that is able to reduce the resistance but the stability is still good. The innovation of hull design carried out have to consider not only in aspect of safety and comfort, but also in aspect of cargo hold capacity. Therefore, this research will analyze the change of deadrise angle to the stability, cargo hold capacity, and resistance. The shift of weight and buoyancy point caused by the change of deadrise angle is calculated by block method. The calculation of cargo hold is carried out by integration of CSA curve. The calculation of ship stability is carried out by using the Krylov I method. If the stability varied by deadrise angle does still fulfill, the next analysis is the resistance. The resistance calculation uses Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The smallest resistance is occurred with deadrise angle 16 degrees which the magnitude is 144.741 kN in speed 24 knots. The output obtained from this research is a recommendation of hull design revealing that crew boat with deadrise angle 6 degrees have an enough cargo hold to take up payload and the stability still fulfills the IMO Regulation.

Abstract

Abstract

According to Fontana, “Corrosion is defined as the deterioration of a material because of reaction with its environment”. The present study is performed to get the behaviour of rust characterization and to predict long term atmospheric corrosion rates of structural steels in Yangon, Myanmar. Three types of structural steel (Type A, Type B and Type C) samples which are commonly used in Myanmar are exposed outdoors according to BS EN ISO 8565. They are removed one month periods, and their mass losses are determined according to ISO 8407 in Yangon Technological University. At the same time, environmental parameters of the test site are monitored. Rust characterization of structural steels is determined by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) results in University Research Centre (Yangon University, Myanmar). From SEM results, Type A and Type B steels have nearly the same image controlled by β-FeOOH which can increase long term corrosion, whereas Type C steel has controlled by γ-FeOOH. A prediction model is developed using SPSS software to understand the main factors which cause the atmospheric corrosion, and it is found that the atmospheric corrosion in Yangon depends mainly on the time of wetness (TOW

Abstract

This paper presents the result of three different type of reduced beam sections (RBS): radius cut, straight cut, and tapered cut under monotonic load using finite element analysis. Load is applied monotonically and divided into 9 steps, start from 500 N to 4500 N, which increasing 500 N for each step, continuously. The dimension for the beam is WF 500x200x10x16 is used for those three types of RBS. The results show that radius cut gives better performance than the other two types. Stress distribution, load-stress curve, and load-displacement curve of those three types of RBS are compared as the result, then lead to the conclusion that the most effective connection amongst those three types of RBS above is RBS with Radius Cut.

Abstract

Bandung as a growing city has transportation problem as other big cities have in Indonesia. About 3.55 million person/day (7.2% move in the morning peak hour) is moved within the city to make more crowded. Thus, a good urban planning is necessary.  An urban planning cannot be separated from mass transportation system. City terminal is one of transportation infrastructures that serves mass transport on a local/city scale. City terminal is built by nodes of people activities such as schools, markets, residential areas, offices, etc. The principle of planning on land transport network system is to connect the system of city activities optimally according to the Masterplan of Transportation network. The purpose of this paper is to design a city terminal that can accommodate people movements and activities as well as can decrease the rate of personal vehicles uses by persuading people to use public transportation. City Terminal which was developed in the first nodes of people movements aims to break and cope up the density with functional approaches such as park and ride system. This paper explains how a city terminal could decrease a number of vehicle’s density by using park and ride concept in a residential area where is a start and end point of the system transport network. Park & ride is the type of terminal where the passengers’ personal vehicles can park and continue their journey by using public transportation instead. The paper ends by designing a park and ride city terminal located in Antapani, Bandung.

Abstract

Tropospheric ozone is harmful to human health and plants. It is resulted from photochemical processes involving NOx and VOCs from reactions of motor vehicle emissions and solar radiation in polluted urban environment. Historical data in Jakarta indicated that ozone concentrations often exceeded ambient standard threshold.  To minimize its impact to human health it is important to predict its concentration. This paper reports the use of multivariate statistical method to predict ozone concentration, using precursor concentration and meteorological parameters.  CH4, CO, NMHC, NO, NO2, THCdata concentration, wind direction and speed, temperature, solar radiation and relative humidity during 2011 - 2012 were used to build the model. Multiple linear regressions were applied to predict ozone concentration at Thamrin Station, Jakarta. These data were used as predictors at time (t) to estimate the ozone concentration at time (t +1). Meteorological conditions were found to strongly affect the concentration of ozone. The strongest relationship was found between ozone and temperature (0.513, p = 0.000). Weaker but significant positive correlations were found for  solar radiation and NO2 (r = 0.242, p= 0.000),. NMHC and NO correlation (r= 0.353, p= 0.000).  Both NO and NMHC are freshly emitted from exhaust gas.  Correlations between humidity, wind speed and direction were negative. Methana, NMHC, were negatively correlated with ozone due to their roles for producing NO2 as the main precursor, while NO was for its scavenging reaction with O3. Based on Adjusted R2 value, all predictors could explain variation in ozone concentration of approximately 46.32%. These findings will be useful as input in urban transportation planning and management in cities with tropical climate like Indonesia, as all precursors are emitted from vehicle combustion.

Abstract

The use of elbow in the fluid mechanics system produces a larger pressure drop. The purpose of this research is to know the flow characteristic through square channel with elbow 90. The diamond-shaped body disturbance is placed at 10° inside the elbow inlet. This research was conducted in 3D simulation with standard k-3 turbulence model. The cross-sectional area uses a square with a side size of 125 mm, then the hydraulic diameter (Dh) is 125 mm as well. The elbow curvature ratio (R / D) is set to 3. A body disorder with diagonal (l / D) ratio at 0.064, 0.08 and 0.1 is placed at 10° in the elbow inlet. The results in this study indicate that body disorders with diamond shape can delay the separation of flow and increase the intensity of turbulence flow. Finally, the results also show that the pressure drop is reduced

Abstract

Abstract

Pack carburizing is one method of adding carbon into the steel surface. This method is done to improve the mechanical properties of steel so as to reduce the risk of material failure due to static and dynamic load. It has been done in this research about pack carburizing with mixed bintaro charcoal media with coconut shell on ST 41 steel. Carburizing method is done by heating steel which is given a mixture of charcoal at 900 celsius temperature with variation of holding time (1h, 1.5h, 2h) And variation of the charcoal mix ratio with BaCO3 (90: 10, 85: 15, 80: 20). Conducted testing of microstructure, jominy, and the composition so it is known that the mixture of bintaro charcoal and coconut shell quite effectively used as a media pack carburizing. It can be seen that the hardness value of carbon steel has increased with the highest value of 65 HRC, metallographic test results showed good carburizing coating with the best thickness value of 30.9 µm, in jominy testing showed the low hardness carbon steel ability increased with the highest distance from the specimen quench-ends about ¾ inch and on the compositional test results showed an increase in carbon content in steel more than 200%.
