Abstract

A water rocket is one of the simple types of props that comprise many science concepts. Manufacturing the water rocket is simple but every movement of water rocket launch needs high analysis. This research aims to design a scheme of water rocket props and to analyze the factors that affect the furthest distance of the water rocket launch. Some science concepts in the water rocket launch are examined. The results represent that throwing at a 45-degree angle produces the furthest distance. The shape of the water rocket's propeller is a trapezoid with a total of 3 propellers. The results also can be used as reference material for teachers in conveying science knowledge so the learning science will be more concrete and fun, especially in primary school.

Abstract

This study was done in response to Farida’s finding (Farida, 2015) about the analysis of errors made by the eighth-grade students of junior high school in one of the schools in solving mathematical story problems which showed that their mathematical ability was still low. The students’ low ability in solving mathematical story problems was caused by their low ability in understanding mathematics. This aim was aimed at describing data on students’ ability in understanding mathematics as the result of the implementation of discourse teaching with Mathematical Bet Line strategy. This study was a quasi-experiment with a nonequivalent control group design. The sample consisted of all students of the fourth-grade in one school in Kuningan district, Kuningan regency. The study used mathematical ability test based on indicators developed by Skemp (1976). The statistical analysis used in this study was independent sample t-test. The result showed that the improvement in the students’ mathematical understanding ability of those who learned through discourse teaching with Mathematical Bet Line strategy was better than that of those who learned through Direct Instruction in the topic criterion fraction. The improvement in mathematical ability was shown by N-gain of 0.67, falling in the mediumcriterion.

Abstract

This study intended to examine the effectivity of science uno card-assisted CIRC method on solar system topic to classification and scientific communication skills. This is experimental research whose sample consisted of two classes; one as an experimental group and the other as a control group. The data of students’ classification skills were gathered from posttest score on cognitive learning outcomes arranged based on four indicators. Observations were carried out in three-time learnings to obtain the data of scientific communication. The analysis of t-test of the total score of classification skills resulted in tcount=2.29 and ttable=2.00, meaning that the experimental group’s classification skills were better than the control group. A Mann Whitney differential test of the total score of scientific skills resulted in Zcount=4.83 and Ztable=1.69 meaning that there was a difference of communication skills between the two classes. Based on the research results, it could be said that science uno card-assisted CIRC method on solar system topic was effective in improving classification and scientific communication skills.

Abstract

Modern technology causes environmental problems and climate change. An eco-friendly school becomes one of the solutions to that problem in Indonesia. However, the program has not been effective for society to change their attitude and behavior. This research aims to find an appropriate solution using several steps; to analyze students’ scientific attitude and environmental knowledge; to analyze the role of teacher and parents; and to formulate an action to increase students’ scientific attitude. This descriptive qualitative research results on students’ scientific attitude that changes the behavior in daily life, measured by using a particular indicator. This needs cooperation between teachers and parents to support changes in students' characters.
