Abstract

This study employs a Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to investigate secondary school efficiency and Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) to examine determinants that affect average secondary school student score in Indonesia. Using the DEA, this study measures the efficiency of the region with regards to the average student score using various input indicators including teacher-to-student ratio, number of teachers holding the first-degree qualification, average secondary school expense, average duration to school and average distance to school, while output variable is the average student score for 33 regions in Indonesia. The findings suggest the average technical efficiency of secondary school in the region is 89 percent with the most efficient regions are Sumatera Utara, Kepulauan Bangka Belitung, DKI Jakarta, Jawa Timur, Bali, Sulawesi Barat, Maluku, Maluku Utara and Papua Barat. With the SFA, this study identifies factors that significantly affect the average student score in the region. The results suggest that the higher ratio of teacher-to-student and higher numbers of the teacher with the first-degree qualification significantly affect the average student score in the region. However, there is no evidence that average secondary school expense and school proximity (average duration and distance to school) significantly affect secondary school efficiency.

Abstract

This classroom action research was aimed to improve mathematics conceptual understanding of X A UPW SMK Negeri 1 Singaraja after applied scientific approach with portfolio assessment. The subject of this research was 35 students from X A UPW SMK Negeri 1 Singaraja in academic year 2016/2017.The results showed that the application of scientific approach with portfolio assessment improve the mathematics conceptual understanding of X A UPW student of SMK Negeri 1 Singaraja. The mastery learning increase by 22,86% from 37,14% in cycle I to 60% in cycle II and at last increase to 77,14% in cycle III. The students also give positive response to the implementation of scientific approach with portfolio assessment with an average score 46,4. The increasing of student mathematics conceptual understanding happen because scientific approach give big chance to the student to explore and guide them finding the concept, and the portfolio assessment facilitate them to know better their ability so that the student can improve their conceptual understanding.

Abstract

A water rocket is one of the simple types of props that comprise many science concepts. Manufacturing the water rocket is simple but every movement of water rocket launch needs high analysis. This research aims to design a scheme of water rocket props and to analyze the factors that affect the furthest distance of the water rocket launch. Some science concepts in the water rocket launch are examined. The results represent that throwing at 45-degree angle produces the furthest distance. The shape of the water rocket's propeller is a trapezoid with a total of 3 propellers. The results also can be used as a reference material for teachers in conveying science knowledge so the learning science will be more concrete and fun, especially in primary school.

Abstract

The learning process in the chemistry for junior high school course emphasizes the concept discovery process, so inquiry learning is one alternative solution that can be done. The purpose of this study is to develop inquiry-based chemistry for junior high school course modules along with performance assessment. This research includes development research (Research and Development) which is generally divided into three stages, namely draft development, validation, and readability test. In the development phase of the draft module, a questionnaire, observation, and documentation technique were selected, in addition to the literature review (theory and previous research). The validation stage used validation sheets and interviews. In the readability, the phase uses the module readability questionnaire. The results showed that the developed and valid SMP chemistry modules were used from the aspects of objectives to be achieved, writing approach, truth, and depth of concepts, language clarity, the suitability of inquiry models with learning stages, physical appearance and appropriateness of performance appraisal with the learning process if the module was applied. The readability test results show that students give positive responses to the module in terms of their interest in content and appearance, renewability of content, interest in solving problems, ease of understanding the content and direction of completion.

Abstract

This type of research is experimental research design with non-equivalent control group design. Population of this research is the students of Semester V PGSD Ganesha University of Education which is consist of 8 classes. The samples were taken by random sampling technique as much as 2 classes. Data ability to think creatively and learning outcomes was collected by using test. Data collected were analyzed using ANOVA two lanes. Based on the results of data analysis, it’s found that the results of the study as follow. First, there are significant differences between the groups understanding of the concept of brain-based learning model and learning model Conventional group (F = 5.13; p <0.05). Second, there are significant differences between the groups understanding of the concept of cognitive style field independent and field dependent cognitive style groups (F = 23.43; p <0.05). Thirdly, in achieving an understanding of concepts, models of learning and cognitive style interacts significantly (F = 6.11; p <0.05). Fourth, there are significant differences between the groups ability to think creatively brain-based learning model and conventional learning model group (F = 12.75; p <0.05). Fifth, there are significant differences between the groups ability to think creatively cognitive style field independent and field dependent cognitive style groups (F = 44.94; p <0.05). Sixth, in the achievement of creative thinking ability, learning and cognitive style models do not interact significantly (F = 0.06; p> 0.05)
