Abstract

ABSTRACTWriting can serve as a means for individuals to express their feelings or internal meanings. This study aims to determine whether there the expressive writing has an impact on the subjective wellbeing of students. This study employed a true experimental design using the Pretest Post-test Control Group Design. The participants consisted of 22 new students from the 2023 academic year, selected using convenience sampling techniques. Data were collected the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ) and analyzed using the Independent Sample T-Test. The results of the data analysis indicated no significant different in subjective-well being scores between the experimental group (EG) and the control group (CG) (p = 0.700, p > 0.05)). This suggests that expressive writing does not influence the subjective well-being of students. The implementation of the intervention (expressive writing) was carried out when students were taking final semester exams which potentially disrupts their concentration and focus, hindering their ability to fully express their feelings or experiences in writing. Therefore, to ensure the effectiveness of the intervention, it is important to consider the participants’ conditions.ABSTRACTMenulis dapat menjadi sarana untuk mengekspresikan perasaan atau makna yang ada pada dirinya individu.

Abstract

Innovation is essential for achieving organizational excellence. Civil servants need to embrace this demand, as reflected in the core values of Ber-AKHLAK. This underscores the urgent need to investigate the factors that drive innovative work behavior (IWB) in the public sector. This study highlights strength-based leadership (SBL) as a key factor influencing IWB. Using Social Exchange Theory, the research investigates the mediating role of psychological safety (PS) and the moderating effect of an ambidextrous organizational culture (AOC). A quantitative self-report survey was distributed via social media, collecting responses from 354 civil servants in Indonesia. The adapted measurement scale demonstrated reliability. Analysis with PROCESS Macro Model 14 in SPSS version 29 indicated that SBL significantly generated IWB directly and through PS, but AOC did not significantly moderate this relationship. These findings imply that although civil servants positively perceive the ambidextrous culture in their organization, it does not automatically boost innovative behavior. Leadership focusing on workers' strengths is more meaningful for activating the psychological safety necessary for innovation.

Abstract

Teacher efficacy plays a crucial role in determining the quality of learning and the success of the educational process. However, measurement instruments that are relevant to the Indonesian cultural and educational context remain limited. This study aims to develop and validate a Teacher Efficacy Scale in Indonesia. The scale construction was based on Bandura’s (1997) self-efficacy theory, which consists of three dimensions—level, strength, and generality—and followed the standard procedures for psychological scale development, including theoretical identification, conceptualization, operationalization, construction, content validity testing, construct validity testing, reliability analysis, and finalization. Participants consisted of 102 public elementary school teachers in Padang, Indonesia, all of whom were civil servants. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was conducted through nine stages of item selection based on loading factors, standardized residual covariances, and modification indices. The final CFA model retained seven valid items with loading factors above 0.50 and demonstrated a good model fit (X² = 19.210; p = 0.057; GFI = 0.952; AGFI = 0.878; CFI = 0.982; TLI = 0.966; RMSEA = 0.086). The findings indicate that the developed scale possesses strong validity and reliability and can be used to measure teacher efficacy among Indonesian elementary school teachers. Practically, this instrument may serve as a valuable tool for research, psychological assessment, and teacher development programs aimed at enhancing professional competence.

Abstract

In early adulthood, individuals experience significant life transitions, which can lead to difficulties in self-adjustment due to societal expectations, commonly manifested in the phenomenon known as the quarter-life crisis. This condition is often triggered by social comparison. One potential factor that may help mitigate the emergence of a quarter-life crisis in early adulthood is psychological well-being. This study aims to examine and analyze the role of psychological well-being as a mediator between social comparison and the quarter-life crisis in early adulthood. The sampling technique used was nonprobability sampling, with criteria including individuals aged 18–40 years and residing in the city of Semarang, resulting in a total of 384 respondents. Data analysis was conducted using path analysis with the assistance of SPSS. The results showed a Sobel test value of 6.39 and a significance level of 0.000, indicating that psychological well-being serves as a mediator between social comparison and the quarter-life crisis in early adulthood. The implication of these findings is that enhancing psychological well-being can reduce the negative impact of social comparison on the level of quarter-life crisis. Therefore, interventions focusing on improving psychological well-being can serve as an effective strategy in addressing this crisis.

Abstract

HIV cases in Semarang City have increased annually, with a high prevalence among Men who have Sex with Men (MSM). The dual stigma associated with being both HIV-positive (PLHIV) and homosexual often leads to social sanctions, which in turn elicit negative emotional reactions as a form of grief in response to such stigma. This study aims to explore the self-acceptance process among homosexual PLHIV members of the Kariadi Peer Support Group (PSG) in Semarang, based on the Kübler-Ross grief model. The research employed a qualitative case study approach. The participants were three homosexual men living with HIV, who contracted the virus through same-sex intercourse and were members of the Kariadi Semarang PSG. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and overt observation. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive model by Miles & Huberman. Data validity was tested through triangulation and verification with significant others. Findings indicate that all three participants went through the stages of denial, bargaining, depression, and acceptance in their journey toward self-acceptance. Only one participant did not go through the anger stage. Each participant had unique strategies and personal approaches in achieving self-acceptance of their HIV status. The implication of this research highlights the importance of openness among PLHIV in order to gain social support, which plays a critical role in facilitating self-acceptance.
