Abstract

The heart is a vital organ that serves to pump blood to the whole body. A heart rate can be used as a healthy body parameter conditions. Growing evidence suggests that IT-based health records play essential role to drive medical revolution especially on data storage and processing. The heart rate measurement (HRM) process usually involves wearable sensor devices to record patient’s data. This data is recorded to help the doctors to analyze and provide a better diagnose in order to determine the best treatment for the patients. Connecting the sensor system through a wireless network to a cloud server will enable the doctor to monitor remotely. This paper presents fit-NES wearable bracelet, an alternative method for integrating a HR measurement device using optical based pulse sensor and Bluetooth-based communication module. This paper is also present the benchmarking of proposed system with several various commercial HR measurement devices.

Abstract

This paper presents the temperature-gate oxide thickness characteristics of a fin field-effect transistor (FinFET) and discusses the possibility of using such a transistor as a temperature nano-sensor. The investigation of channel oxide thickness–based temperature characteristics is useful to optimized electrical and temperature characteristics of FinFET. Current–voltage characteristics with different temperatures and gate oxide thickness values (Tox = 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 nm) are initially simulated, and the diode mode connection is considered to measure FinFET’s temperature sensitivity. Finding the best temperature sensitivity of FinFET is based on the largest change in current (∆I) within a working voltage range of 0–5 V. According to the results, the temperature sensitivity of FinFET increases linearly with oxide thickness within the range of 1–5 nm, furthermore, the threshold voltage and drain-induced barrier lowering increase with increasing oxide thickness. Also, the subthreshold swing (SS) is close to the ideal value at the minimum oxide thickness (1 nm) then increases and diverges with increasing oxide thickness. So, the best oxide thickness (nearest SS value to the ideal one) of FinFET under the conditions described in this research is 1 nm.

Abstract

Agricultural field’s production is commonly measured through the performance of the crops in terms of sow amount, climatology, and the type of crop, among other. Therefore, prediction on the performance of the crops canaid cultivators to make better informed decisions and help the agricultural field. This research work presents a prediction on wheat crop using the fuzzy set theory and the use of optimization techniques, in both; traditional methods and evolutionary meta-heuristics. The performance prediction in this research has its core on the following parameters: biomass, solar radiation, rainfall, and infield’s water extractions. Besides, the needed standards and the efficiency index (EFI) used come from already developed models; such standards include: the root-mean-square error (RMSE), the standard deviation, and the precision percentage. The applicationof a genetic algorithm on a Takagi-Sugeno system requires and highly precise prediction on wheat cropping;being, 0.005216 the error estimation, and 99,928 the performance percentage.

Abstract

As the size of the Web continues to grow, searching it for useful information has become more difficult. Focused crawler intends to explore the Web conform to a specific topic. This paper discusses the problems caused by local searching algorithms. Crawler can be trapped within a limited Web community and overlook suitable Web pages outside its track. A genetic algorithm as a global searching algorithm is modified to address the problems. The genetic algorithm is used to optimize Web crawling and to select more suitable Web pages to be fetched by the crawler. Several evaluation experiments are conducted to examine the effectiveness of the approach. The crawler delivers collections consist of 3396 Web pages from 5390 links which had been visited, or filtering rate of Roulette-Wheel selection at 63% and precision level at 93% in 5 different categories. The result showed that the utilization of genetic algorithm had empowered focused crawler to traverse the Web comprehensively, despite it relatively small collections. Furthermore, it brought up a great potential for building an exemplary collections compared to traditional focused crawling methods.

Abstract

This paper presents unbalanced active distribution system analysis with renewable distributed Energy Resources (DER). The renewable DER models have been considered are photovoltaic (PV) and Wind Turbine generation (WTG). The three-phase distribution load flow on the basis of the symmetrical components have been used in the analysis. The unbalanced active distribution system has been analized using IEEE 13 node feeder and IEEE 8500 node feeder with renewable DER units. The variation of wind speed (m/s) for WTG, solar radiation (W/m²) and temperature (°C) for PV have been simulated. The simulation results show that the proposed DER model can be used to analysis renewable DER impacts in unbalanced distribution system. The integration of renewable DER units into an existing distribution network can improve the voltage profile and reduce total system losses. The simulation results show that DERs size and location are important factors to improve voltage profile and line loss reduction.

Abstract

Device-to-device (D2D) communications have the potential to improve spectrum efficiency and link capacity by allowing nearby devices to communicate directly with each other on the licensed frequency bands. Hence, co-channel interference (CCI) among D2D users are major issues to be solved when they are utilizing the same frequency bands. Consequently, interference alignment (IA) as an effective interference management approach has been implemented to the D2D communications for the frequency sharing. However, the measurement of channel state information (CSI) between transmitter and receiver of a D2D pair and cross-channel state information (C-CSI) among D2D pairs are the major issues that need to be resolved for the implementation of IA from theory to practical. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an effective D2D discovery scheme to overcome this problem, which can measure the CSI and C-CSI based on the transmission of discovery messages. Simulation results show that, under perfect conditions, even though the proposed D2D discovery scheme increases the needed time slots to establish D2D communications compared with the conventional D2D discovery without considering IA by 6.2%, it increases the throughput up to 50% than the conventional D2D communications without considering IA, i.e., it improves the spectrum efficiency.

Abstract

A new linear approach for support reconstruction of impenetrable objects is described and tested in case of scattered field data collected in Ground Penetrating Radar measurement configuration. Starting from the considerations that in high conductivity scatterers the currents induced inside the scatterers are only localized on its boundary and that they take up only few pixels of the entire investigation domain, a sparsity promoting inversion technique is formulated. The flexibility of the approach allows to counteract the specific difficulty to work under “aspect limited” measurement configurations, as the one at hand. Examples with numerical noisy data are given to demonstrate and validate the effectiveness of the method in localizing and in retrieving the shape of the unknown objects buried in lossy soil.

Abstract

Most scientific publishers encourage authors to provide keyphrases on their published article. Hence, the need to automatize keyphrase extraction is increased. However, it is not a trivial task considering keyphrase characteristics may overlap with the non-keyphrase’s. To date, the accuracy of automatic keyphrase extraction approaches is still considerably low. In response to such gap, this paper proposes two contributions. First, a feature called fact-based sentiment is proposed. It is expected to strengthen keyphrase characteristics since, according to manual observation, most keyphrases are mentioned in neutral-to-positive sentiment. Second, a combination of supervised and unsupervised approach is proposed to take the benefits of both approaches. It will enable automatic hidden pattern detection while keeping candidate importance comparable to each other. According to evaluation, fact-based sentiment is quite effective for representing keyphraseness and semi-supervised approach is considerably effective to extract keyphrases from scientific articles.
