Abstract

A research has been conducted which aims to determine the effect of Multiple Intelligences approach through Direct Learning Model (Direct Instruction) toward the learners’ attitude and their Chemistry learning outcomes and their correlation to class XI Science SMAN I Tellu Limpoe. This study is an experimental research design with Posttest-Only Control Group Design. The descriptive statistical analysis of the results shows that the learners’ attitudes and chemistry learning outcomes in experimental class were better than the control class. Then, the result of inferential statistical analysis shows that there is a significant influence of Multiple intelligences approach toward the learners’ attitude and their Chemistry learning outcomes and has a positive correlation of 0.522 (moderate correlation).

Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the difference in students’ critical thinking which learnt cooperatively using different learning context. Quasy experimental postest only control group design was chosen as experimental design using two equivalent classes as the sample. The first class (15 MIA 5, n = 30) was taught using socioscientific issues (SSI) as the learning context and the second one (15 MIA 6, n = 30) was not. The research instrument was a test consisted of 16 items of multiple choice questionsdeveloped based on Ennis’ critical thinking indicators. This instrument have been validated and its reliability approved with r = 0,765. Students’ post-test scores were analyzed using t-test with SPSS 16 for Windows. The result showed that statistically students’ critical thinking skills betweentwo classes was significanly different (Asym. Sig = 0,037). Students who taught using SSI have higher score (73,96) than the one wasn’t (66,04). Result shows that using socioscientific issues (SSI) as learning context has significant effect on high school students’ critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the improvement of students’ scientific literacy after STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning using 6E Learning by DesignTM Model on temperature and its changes material. The research was conducted in SMP Negeri (State Junior High School) 1 Bumiayu in the academic year 2015/2016. The method used was quasi-experimental design with The Matching Only - pretest posttest control group design. This study used two group of experiment group of students who learned the material with STEM learning using 6E Learning by DesignTM, while the control group students learned with non-STEM learning. The analysis showed that the students' scientific literacy in experiment group is better than control group. The conclusion that can be drawn is STEM learning using 6E Learning by DesignTM on temperature and its changes material can improve students’ scientific literacy.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to quantify the logical thinking capacity ofseventh grade students in Tuban, East Java, Indonesia. This research was conducting using the quantitative descriptive method and 119 students in the seventh grade of secondary school in Tuban during the Academic Year 2016/2017. The data was collected by using Logical Thinking Test (LTT) which comprises of six different kind of reasonings; namely conservational reasoning, proportional reasoning, controlling variables, combinatorial reasoning, probabilistic reasoning, and correlational reasoning (source). Based on LTT, scores are categorized into three levels; concrete operational levels, transitional levels, and formal operational levels (source). The results of the research display that (88.21%) of the seventh grade are classified at the concrete operational level, (10.08%) at the transitional level, and (1.68%) at the formal operational level. After conducting this research, teachers are now able to design teaching tactics and have a better understanding of secondary school student’s cognitive development and behavior

Abstract

To find out the students’ achievement level to develop their critical thinking, it is needed an evaluation instrument to measure their ability. The research result shows that there is a difference of critical thinking skill for Thermo chemistry concept between top ranking and medium ranking of High School in the area of Cirebon, Kuningan, and Majalengka. This result indicates that the test which is applied to the students is able to differentiate the critical thinking ability in the area of Cirebon (coastal area), Kuningan District (mountainous area), and Majalengka District (agricultural area).
